I had a revelation during my run last night.  I think a lot of the interwebz fights I get into in usually not about the topic, but how people treat other people.  I may be overly chivalrous.

If someone says "the earth revolves around the sun and anyone to think otherwise is a stupid moron"...

I may chime in "hold on, no reason to call them stupid morons" and give them examples where people might think that, but not because they are stupid morons.

Then I end up taking an opposing viewpoint, even though I agree with the original statement.

I just can't STAND name calling and belittling.  I should probably stop championing people and let them handle their own battles?

It happens in real life too.

I have a position that is very political and emotional, and it can be adversarial at times.

I try to tell my folks (be they employees, co-workers, kids, or parents) that instead of getting mad, you should be happy when people use these dirty tactics.

My logic is this.

#1 - People with fight with what they think will win.

They obviously did not think that evidence and an argument on its merits would work.

Therefore, they are silently admitting defeat and hoping a last ditch of effort of fighting dirty will work.

 

#2 - Attempts to distract from the real issues only work if you fall for it. 

Don't fall for it.

 

Of course, I leave out the fact that sometimes this is deliberate, but sometimes people just act stupid.

The Diamond Cabernet in Denver had an amazing buffet.  I knew the chef and he was professionally trained and WANTED a better gig, but this was all he could find at the time.

10 bucks got you a beer and fantastic food (and of course, boobies).

However, I never felt quite "clean" eating next to the stage full of nekkid ladies.  I'm sure it was in my head, so only did it twice before saying that was enough, can't do it anymore.

 

Besides, I was starting to date the wife at that time and she doesn't like me looking at other naked girls.  She even said she wasn't sure she liked that I had seen her roommate in LA naked.  But I saw her naked on a couple skinamax shows when flipping channels.  It's not like I was staking her shower or peeking through windows.

I mean come on.  Your a flipping channels and someone you KNOW is suddenly on TV getting naked?  You are not going to pause just for a second to at least say "HOLY COW!  That's so and so!"

One of the biggest is the implication that someone with an opposing view is dumb, stupids, or don't get it.  No, they just have a different view. 

I don't mind if someone has a different view than me.  Just don't call me dumb or imply I don't get it just because I don't agree with you.

I personally think I'm smarter than most people I deal with (yes, pride proceedeth the fall).  So I DO get it and I'm far from dumb.  I think a lot of people are pretty smart.  I just came to a different conclusion.

There is also a difference between uninformed, than "dumb".  Maybe you don't have enough information to make correct choice/decision.  Being dumb is having the information and not being able to figure it out or STILL coming up with the wrong conclusion.

House of Blues is awesome.

You know, I have some regrets that I don't take advantage of a lot of the cool stuff here (but I don't do bad).

But the problem with this town is everything starts SO LATE...  They have techno night at places, or guest DJ's and stuff.  But I'm just not that part guy.  Once, the wife got me tickets to see Paul Oakenfold.  My favorite DJ at the time.  Went to the club and I swear, it was 4am before he came on.  I mean, WTF????  Ok, maybe it was a bit earlier, but I KNOW it wasn't before 3am...  I almost had to leave before he came on.
