Master 2484 St. Louis | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Open Originally posted by wenceslasz Originally posted by Tri Rick Tri I have my first ever bike fitting next Tuesday Like you, I am not sure how much to expect from it, but i figure I should get it done if i have any hopes of doing longer races next year. I will report back next week. Happy training, be safe. Rick I went out for my 1st post-bike-fit ride today. I went with an open mind just trying to see how the bike felt. I can't say I was any faster but I did feel faster and more comfortable on the ride. I had two good hill climbs (one each way) and both felt faster and easier. In fact on my 2nd climb I kept up with a fellow that usually rides up several minutes faster than me. I don't think I pedaled any faster/harder than usual. Also, on the 1st half of the ride I had a tailwind I was unaware of and I finished it in 1:21:00. When I stopped at the turn around point I realized there was a quite strong north wind to ride into all the way home. When we got home I was amazed that I still felt strong riding into that headwind and my 2nd half was 1:32:xx so some slower than the 1st half but I think faster than I would have been before the fitting. At least it felt faster. I had saddle issues on my long Sunday ride so I expected more trouble but instead of wearing my bike shorts as I did for the two long rides I wore my tri-shorts and I still had issues but far less than I did with the bike shorts. Awesome that your fit made you feel more comfortable and use less energy! |

Extreme Veteran 1704 Penticton, BC | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Open No word from Joe yet? I went out early for a long ride and the whole time I was speculating on where he was - when he was out of the water, off the bike and on the run. Looking forward to hearing how it went. |

Veteran 493 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Open Hey guys, I survived! Surprised results aren't up yet. I'll post a full race report at some point, but right now I'm typing on my phone. I finished just under 6 I think. Race clock said 5:55:xx when I crossed but my watch said 5:59:xx so I'm curious to see what the official results say. My HRM crapped out on me at about the 2 hour mark so that sucked. There was definitely a significant amount of walking on the run too . More or less walked the uphills and ai stations and jogged the rest. Really happy with my swim, I had low expectations based on my oly swim in April but I swam straighter and sighted much better this time. Think I finished the swim in 37 something. Maybe 38 something. Bike went well but the run was killer. |

Extreme Veteran 1704 Penticton, BC | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Open Great job Joe. I actually found your results just after I posted earlier today. That is - assuming I have the right Joe: Swim 38:17 T1 2:55 Bike 3:07:53 T2 2:10 Run 2:08:34 Total 5:59:49 I hope you don't mind me posting your times. I had just Googled "Folsom Triathlon 2013" and found one that said results. Then searched "Joe"/male (I was pretty certain) and "30-34". If these are your times (I think so) then it looks like you had a pretty good day to me. |

53 | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Open Awesome job Joe, a sub-6 is blazing fast! Miche033, I couldn't have asked for nicer conditions at my oly this morning, sunny and 64 degrees with a water temp of 77, barely wetsuit legal . The swim has much room for improvement, mainly swimming i need to work on swimming more efficiently and with more intensity. Also my sighting was off and I constantly drifted to the right. However I did well concentrating on my kick, catch, and pull through in an effort to "glide" thought the water. I was also happy to get it under 30 minutes. When on the bike i Just made sure to keep my cadence up and stay at a pace that I knew I could handle. The course was mainly flat with rolling hills except for tornado alley hill which was a deep valley. The descent was amazing but climbing up an 8% grade really puts things into perspective. Even in my lowest gear it felt like a struggle to maintain a seated climb. I did like to stick with cyclists wwhomhad a similar pace to help push me. Instead of trying to keep up with cyclists much faster than me I just biked my own race because I knew that I would have quickly ran out of energy. The ride felt hard but comfortably in my zone and under control. And lastly my most favorite event, The run was okay but would have been better if my feet didn't go numb. I started the run off with my third gel to give me enough energy to the finish. Surprisingly my stomach was able to handle it. I had to shorten my stride a lot and felt very slow. I did work on always catching the person who was immediately in front of me as a goal to keep pushing. This is where I gained back some of my lost time. Swim- 29:50 T1- 1:19 Bike- 1:16.xx (19.58mph) T2- 59seconds Run- 45:06 (next time I would like it to be under 45). Total time- 2hr 33min And now for the best part.... since the race only had 150 or so contestants I placed in the top 20 overall and got first in my age group (M20-24) |

Let me know Thanks Carlos- I don't think I have ever even once done what my training plan tells me to. I always change it. Sometimes I change the plan as I'm rolling down my driveway, haha. On BT you can edit any training plan (I don't know if you have to be a paying member for this...?). Import the plan closest to what you want, then you can move stuff around or delete/change workouts as you like. You can also build a custom plan, where you enter the race distance, how many of each sport per week, and total time available to train, and BT will build you a custom plan. It's cool. You can even say what day you want your long workouts on. It's here. (I also don't know if you have to be a paying member for this. I think so.) Maybe others know of other sites... |

53 | Subject: RE: Hashers and Mashers - Open Thanks guys! Miche033 I didn't want to talk myself up too much. I was just happy that i was able to enjoy the race. Strykergt i will need to start training as much as you in order to be ready for an IM but hopefully in the future after I get a HIM under my belt. And joe what was your nutrition strategy for a race that long? |

And joe what was your nutrition strategy for a race that long? The weather was perfect, my strategy would have changed if it was hotter. I had three bottles of concentrated skratch on the bike, and I took essentially a honey stinger gel every half hour, starting at the 20 minute mark (you're supposed to give yourself 15-20 minutes before taking in gel or whatever after the swim due to your body needing to acclimate or something). Then on the run I took a flask with 6 more gels, my intention was to take a gel every twenty minutes and water at the mile aid stations. I decided probably by the second gel that wasn't going to happen, I was sick of the gels. My energy level was fine. So I just kept with water there on out. I think if I could do it over again I'd just take another bottle of concentrated skratch and have that and the course water. |

Does it feel different than recovering after a really long rid/run or a brick workout, or is it a whole other level of sore/fatigue? What's next for you? |
