Going to pick up the foot pod this year for indoor running so I don't have to keep track of how many laps I've done on the indoor track. Ugh, I hate that. I hate the track in general. I don't mind the track for up to about 5K, but I can't stand running in circles for more than about 30 minutes at a time. I hated running track in HS. Even though I did it. those 8 laps were so friggin' dull. And they hurt like a mother... And I wasn't that fast. |

By the end of HS, I was primarily a high jumper (did it for a year in college too) and a triple jumper with the occasional 400m hurdles thrown in for good measure. If you want to know absolute torture do those. Sprint and entire lap AND jump over 10 hurdles in the process. I must have been out of my ever lovin mind. |

Runner | ![]() Heh. I once signed up for the steeplechase (only way I qualified to go to an invitational meet). It was my first, last, and only attempt at such a thing. 6 laps around, with something like 5-6....well, they were the height of a high hurdle, but they were 4x4s for the cross beam, and they were bolted into the ground. The one had a water pit behind it, too (it was about 4-5 ft long). I never did hurdles. I was short and skinny, and not talented with the leg strength to jump like that. So I did a lot of boosting with my hands. I only slipped on the one. Have a nice faded scar on my left shin from where I banged it and drug it across the edge of said 4x4. Good times, good times. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I actually love the track because that can only mean one thing for me: Intervals I don't do them often enough mostly because I have been focusing on running economy for about the past year. Nothing like running fast until you puke on the track to make you truely appreciate marathon pace |

Yeah, thanks, but no thanks! I'll stick with jumping backwards over a bar set at about 6'8". |

If you want to know absolute torture do those. Sprint and entire lap AND jump over 10 hurdles in the process. I must have been out of my ever lovin mind. I never did track til my senior year. My best friend was a track STAR and we'd played all the other sports together, so she talked me into going out that year for "fun." HAHA! So...I'm slow. And I can't jump. So it sucked. But at my FIRST meet (biggest class of school in Omaha, mind you) my school needed a 300 hurdle runner (don't know what happened to the other girl) and NEVER MIND that'd I'd NEVER done ANY hurdles prior to this and NEVER run ANY race before...they had me do it. Oy. I get traumatized thinking about it...So the race starts and I'm running...then all of a sudden I can't breathe b/c I'm literally hyperventilating...well so I guess I was "breathing" but not feeling like I was getting air. So I eventually stopped running and just sort of collapsed on the side of the track. GAAAA! Hahaha...Everyone's like "it's her asthma it's her asthma!" and I couldn't talk so I couldn't tell them to SHUT UP THIS ISN'T ASTHMA!...so funny. How wretched. Total...panic...attack. HA! I see you are still having a hard time talking about it. |

Nothing like running fast until you puke on the track to make you truely appreciate marathon pace Dear lord. That reminds me of a workout I did in college. And I was only a high jumper (still trying to get me to do the darn hurdles though). Some kind of friggen pyramid. 4 x50, 3x100, 2x200, 1x400 then back down. All at race speed. All with less than 1 minute rest in between. Coach was a nut. EVERYONE lost their lunch that day. No exception. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I hated the actual track in HS. I played soccer but we had a date with the track the first week of practice every year. Coach would say, 'Don't bring your cleats. Just your running shoes'. We would do those stupid runs where you would run in a line and the guy at the end would sprint to front. Problem is we had this really fast guy on the team that would always go ahead and be a PITA to catch. |

They work, but it sounds like your coach was determined to grind everyone into the dirt that day. |
