So after a long day at work last night and being a hotter and muggier day than I've been used to for the past 10 years, I decided to try a LT on my run.  Based on the training bible, this is what we came up with.

Z1 116-148   10:30+
Z2 149-158   9:17-10:30
Z3 159-167   8:38-9:16
Z4 168-174   8:09- 8:37
Z5 175-178   7:53-8:08
Z5b 178-184  7:19-7:52
Z5c 185-193  7:18- max

That's better than what I got the last time I tried one of these a while back but not quite where I want to be yet.  But I'm working on it!  (thanks to tripletmom01 for figuring out the numbers!)

Dave, do you train with HR or by pace? The LT results I've seen have HR as the monitored element, but the pace info above is pretty cool and interesting too. I know there are "running calculators" out there that take times from various distances and predict times for other distances as well as paces for various training zones. That's what this reminds me of. I guess I'd find it a bit harder to train by mile pace 'cuz I don't have a monitor that gives this data real-time, seems it would need to be a GPS based one, e.g. Garmin 305. I'd be interested in how you will use this info....

I did it based on HR.  I also had a garmin as a double check.  I honestly don't know how the pace numbers Tammy gave me are derived.  She said she got them from a training bible she borrowed.  But I'm pretty sure it involved taking a time at the 5K mark, which based on my avg pace per lap was just about dead on.

I suppose I'll try to keep my LSDs in Z2 but that's hard for me to do.  I always tend to run in zone a slow Z3 or fast Z4.  Perhaps if I stick to Z2 on my next LSD I won't tire out as much?  It'll be fun to experiment at least.

Bummer Dave, hope the ear gets better soon!

I'm doing my first outside ride of the year tomorrow.  Had considered racing a criterium but don't feel ready as I haven't even turned a pedal other than on the trainer since October, and there are probably other yahoos in the same boat who are willing to go out and crash.  Don't want road rash for my wedding next month, so I'll opt for a group ride with some of the tri wis gang instead.

Anybody racing this weekend? Significant workouts planned?  I'll be riding tomorrow, wrapping up our wedding invitations, and working.

Plan on either a group ride tomorrow or on my own.  (depends on the # of cervesas I have and how early I can wake up).

It's supposed to be beautiful here this weekend so I plan on taking full advantage of it.  Might do a long run on Sunday.  (well, long for me ).

And I gotta find a pool - even if I swam a few times between now and my next race that will help out a little.

OK - rode on my own today!  Broke a spoke on the ridet though.  Took it to a LBS and got it fixed.  was looking at new tri bikes - they were sweet!  Saw a "project one" treK that was $3200 and had a $2200 wheel set on it.   It sure was purty.  I know I can't afford that so I cowered to the corner of the store.

I think I may do a LSD tomorrow.  Might swing by work to make sure the projects I had planned were accomplished.  Need to buy an actual tri top. Then I'll hit the workout.

Singed up for my next Tri today.  CB&I tri in The Woodlands, TX.  It's on 5/3 - less than 1 month.  I told my boss if I placed top 10 he's have to sponsor me!   We'll see.

Hope the rest of the group has a great weekend!

Later!

Was way too nice to not be out today.  Decided to go w/ a brick workout today instead of the LSD since I'm training for another sprint.  But I kept the bike short thinking I would go for a semi-LSD run.  I just can't do it.  Was supposed to run in Z2 but ended up running much faster.  I hate running slow (yah, i know, can't get too much slower).  Always in the back of my mind that if I run faster I'll get done sooner.  This is something I'll have to work at if I go for longer races or the 1/2 mary I want to do.

It happened again!

I had a swim lesson on Thursday morning and a bit later in the day my wfe and I were out drvng around town and I began to have a stomach ache, sweating, loss of energy and feeling faint. Went to the ER and was told there was nothing immediatly wrong , but was kept for observation overnight. I saw an internal medicine Dr. the next morning and they looked over my cardiac test results from my episode in January. They ran a few more tests and now they are thinking I may have to have a PACEMAKER. They are undecide if I have Sincope or Vaso Vagal Syndrome. I am going to meet with another cardiologist this week or next to determine what my next course of action is.

Have I mentioned before I just want to feel normal again!!!!

Hey Eric!  At least you look good in scrubs!  Hope you feel good and can get some good information on the root cause of the issue!

Great weekend here, over 75 miles on the road bike over two days.  So nice to get outside again!

Hi! I know I have been horribly remiss in my checking in duties and such. But I have all of my ducks back in a row in my personal world and am ready to focus. I am starting a training plan (from the BT site) on 4/14 and have signed up for a sprint tri in July. Baby steps.

Been nursing an IT band injury that I got from trail running on them big old hills and such. Seems fine now. I did all of my stretches that doc gave me and didn't run and now it feels fabulous. Been doing a lot of running, squatting and fast movement on the knee for 2 weeks in boot camp (see below) now with no issues. I have yet to trail run again though .... this week I will try.

I have 2 weeks left of "boot camp" (basically an hour of crossfit type stuff at 5:30am every morning) so that is good. I took it as a "jump start" ... to kind of shock my body, and boy howdy it sure has! I've been still swimming a couple times a week, taking a few spin classes and doing a lot of running. So I will be ready to rock ... I hope!

Woo Hoo!

Welcome back Z!  Can't wait to follow your tri training progress!  I know you'll do just fine!

MONDAY CHECK IN!!!!

Should be moving out of temp housing into apartment on Friday.  Still not trusting the folks in the front office.  They tell me it'll be ready but I have yet to confirm that.

Put in a little swim after work - found a little rec center near by.  Not the nicest facilities but I didn't care.

How's everyone else's Monday going?

Hello.  Easing off a bout of stomach flu that hit friday night and hit hard.  This was supposed to be my last full week of workouts before taper to my duo on the 19th.  Hope to be up for at least a light workout tomorrow.  I haven't practiced transitions yet and have barely gotten any real bricks in.

Eric - I hope they figure this out soon and you start feeling better!

Hillary - hope you get over the flu you got!  You should be fine in the transitions in you duo - my only piece of advice....GO FAST!  LOL.  Sorry doesn't help much does it?  Seriously, practice getting in and out of the shoes and on and off your bike a few times and you'll be fine.

Hey Gang - just checking in.

So what's everyone up to?

No training for me today - just got back from work and I'm still trying to get everything set up for moving into mynew apartment on friday.  It's not the best place but I picked it mostly for the price (expesive paying monthly rent AND a home mortage).

Perhaps if I get done early enough on Friday moving what little bit I have into the new place I'll do some training.

When's everyone's next race?  Hilary's got a duathlon that she's gonna kick some major azz in pretty soon.  I'm signed up for another sprint tri on May 3rd.  Any one else racing soon?

Hey Gang! Happy Thursday. I took a rest day yesterday. I needed it after the nerve wracking experience of mailing my wedding invitations. For some reason, walking up to the counter at the post office was a significant moment... I've been completely relaxed through everything including the proposal, but it seemed that once everyone is invited, it became even more real. Crazy!

My first race of the season is coming up fast on May 4, the Olympic at Wildflower in CA. I'm feeling under trained, particularly on the run. I'm a bit nervous as this will be my third crack at this race, and I went slower the second time than the first. That was frustrating, and at the moment I don't know that I'm in shape to go faster, but I'm sure going to give it a shot.

Andria didn't know what I looked like until I changed my avatar. I'm a total album stalker, I watch for recently updated albums and check out the new pics. Good times, I suggest you put some free time into this. Here's a couple of my favorite race pics of me:

Do I need to describe this one?

Nice pics Pete! - it is more real....  What I found - AYMMV - getting married (the first time) was the most surreal experience I've ever had next to the birth of my kids... Enjoy the ride....

Feel good after the super slow run yesterday. It was slow but way better than nothing! - one more run on friday -swim (with earplugs) saturday and a cold 5k race on Sunday. This race will take me past the house I lived in when i first got married 20 years ago... Holy crap - has it been 20 years since my first go at it? Yikes.. feeling old...
