I like the treadmill.  When I want to get off I'm done.  No need to run another 10 miles, find a bus, call a cab or hitch hike home.  :-p  I freely admit, I've never jumped a bus, hailed a cab or stuck out my thumb, but I've thought about.

And Bears, bears never surprise you on a treadmill.  Gangsters, gangster never pass you and then start to back up on the tread mill.

Cheers.

I admit, sometimes I enjoy the monotony of the treadmill and just enjoy the music I am listening to especially when I am traveling.  No need to watch out for anything.  At home in Florida, I cannot do it.  I will run by the water any day

When i think about the treadmill it is almost enough for me to want to turn around and go home..When i get off the treadmill I feel like I just escaped from Prison... Ugh..( it doesn't help that i appear to like running the least.

But on the running subject.. I went to a local running store and was "fitted" today. Love my new "Brooks Ghost 4's"

Most interesting part about it was having them want me in an 11.5, when I wear a 9.5 to 10 in every other shoe.

Didn't question it, and they felt good.. sooo... i now officially have bigger feet!!  Go Me..

I had the same experience. Usually wear a 10 or 10.5, but the running store put me in 11.5. They've fit great and I'm on my second pair.

I'm with Billy....HATE the dreadmill!!!!  I use it occasionally but I love running outside, even in the cold...but it hasn't been cold much at all this year....I WANT SNOW!

Thanks for you comments everyone!

I always wear a half size bigger in running shoes.

So cool that Super Bowl is in Indy this year.  I've been to Super Bowl city....fun!!!  I'm going again tomorrow night...should be even more crowded and more fun!  I'll get to see LMFAO!  What fun!!  If you are familiar with them at all then you know the song: "I'm Sexy and I Know It"  some lyrics are: "I'm sexy and I know it....I work out!"  LOL  Should be a lot of fun!

Back to talking about the dreadmill....as much as I hate it...I don't mind biking on the trainer.  How about everyone else?

I avoid the dread mill as much as possible but there are times it has come in handy. I too prefer to be outdoors.I have a really hard time being on the trainer longer then an 90 minutes. At that point I would rather be on the dread mill.Billy, do tell us about the stack and crack?

Haven't bought a trainer yet. Next on my list. However, I am finding out just how expensive this sport/getting in shape is. Bike clothes bike shoes running shoes fittings swimwear. Lol. On and on. Had good workout this am. 800 meter swim @ 16:22 then some intervals. Felt like I could have kept going after 800 for a long time. Then straight to bike for 30 mins. Glad today didn't include dreadmill!!!

As far as the treadmill is concerned - I have one in the house and I'm glad I do, but I prefer to run outside.  I will, however, defer to the treadmill in bad weather or when I need to for other reasons (like when my daughter played soccer and had to stay for the varsity game - I'd go home after her game and run on the treadmill until she called for me to come pick her up;  that way I could just stop and go get her).  I have done some 12+ miles on the treadmill before.   Not fun, but if I have my ipod I'm ok (and the treadmill is the only time I run with the ipod).

As far as the trainer - right now I can't stand to go longer than an hour on the trainer.  I've gone longer in the past when training, but I'm not there right now.  It's kind of like the treadmill....I much prefer to be outside, but if it's trainer or no workout, the trainer is going to win.

I'm just glad I have options without having to go to a gym.  Now if I could only get an endless pool in the backyard!

Ditto, Suzie, although I tend to keep my arms up t-rex style to avoid it.

It wasn't until I got off the treadmill and started running outside that I realized  I don't hate running, I hate the treadmill!!  It posed some sort of weird security for me (Bathroom availability being a big one, Now I bring paper towels on every run,  You just never know!!)   I will only go on the treadmill for 3-4 miles tops.  I find I can tolerate the cold better running than on the bike.  I guess its the speed.

I just bought a trainer this fall.  I'm starting to enjoy it.  (I much prefer being outside!! Haven't been too many warm days to ride outside this January but more than usual.  The longest I have been on it is 90 minutes.  Music and netflixs helps.  Would love to try spinervals.  I've seen people mention it.  Any one have some "old" ones they don't use or any bike training program on dvd?  I do try to go to bike trainer class at my gym run by a USAT cert trainer.  It is grueling, a major sweat fest. At home, I'm trying to maintain a lower heart rate so it manageable but boring.

I am not a big fan of running... period. I would rather ride the bike course twice rather than doing the run on an Ironman. But I actually ran my first half-marathon on the treadmill. It was kinda funny. There is usually a 30 minute limit on the machines at the gym, but with a row of treadmills and there always being one available that night, nobody challenged me to get off, so I figured what the heck. These two women kept checking my mileage, and asking if I was okay (they figured out pretty quickly the "Cardiac" part of my logo on my shirt).

If I ever get a tattoo, it will be the logo that is on my shirt.
