Tracy--I'm a butterfly girl, but I have noticed that since I got my aerobars it is a little less comfortable and causing a few more chafing issues than before.  I'm starting the investigation process for a tri bike so would love to hear what the other chicks think!  And post your chafing remedy.  I would love to see you write it and get the tips!!!

Best investment of 10 dollars and 10 minutes you will ever make!

What one do you have and where did you find it for $10?

I got mine at a local sporting goods shop called sports basement, but these are the standard types of foam rollers:
http://www.nefitco.com/foamroller18inch.html
this size 6" x 18" is very versatile.
The stick is the one John is talking about and I think I got mine at trisports with 15% coupon...it is great, Jeremy!

I have this ......      http://www.travelroller.com/
I mentioned it Rob a while ago. Its great, basically a pipe with some padding on it. Comes with some hard balls as well. Yes, I know, thats what she said.  And Tony, yes like JKM, this hurts so good as well.

tahrens - 2009-08-26 10:04 AM Since Suzy broke trump with a girly question I have one for  the ladies.  I need a recommendation for a tri saddle.  I have a Terry Butterfly on my road bike and am very happy with it but I sit much more forward on the soft tissue and pubic bone on the tri bike and ....well lets just say that isn' t going to work.   Do you ladies have any suggestions? I follow a few female specific tips that help a lot for chaffing (I'll spare the guys here but send me a p.m. if you are interested) but the saddle is more of a pressure issue.

Got a good friend racing up at IMC Sunday.  She's been through a ton of saddles and loves the Adamo Race.  She's on a tri bike...actually the same bike as you.

With saddles I always recommend going to a shop and trying out a few.  Some I have seen will even let you take it back after a ride or two if you don't like it to exchange.

Sam just uses the Specialized BG that came on her bike but she doesn't ride aero that often.

Friend of ours uses the Cobb Mo Flo and likes it.

I have an Adamo race saddle which I like, also have seen some women using those also.

sdalessio - 2009-08-26 6:51 AM Good morning group!  I'm back at work so more time to chat.  LOL

Anyway quick question ...

I have my last tri of the year coming up in 3 weeks.  I've totally focused on my running for the OBX marathon in Nov.  I told myself that this tri was for fun but I can't get away from my competitive nature.  So like Tony, my swimming and biking have suffered these past few months.  My question is: are there any bike and swim workouts that I could do b/t now and then to sharpen up my speed.  It is a 750m swim, 16m bike and 5K.  It should be wetsuit legal (please, please, please) and a pretty fast bike/run course.  I need quality not quantity b/c I don't have a lot of extra time for long workouts.

Thanks!  If the cycling club ever gets the final results up from the TT, I will post my very sad results.  And yes - they are VERY sad.  I finished 6 min. behind the second to last place person.  Cry  So humbling!!!!!!!!

TABATA TABATA TABATA WORKOUTS!! BRUTAL!!!  10 minute warmup then 8 sessions of ALL OUT INTERVALS.... 30 sec. on 15 sec. off!  Then a 15 min cool down!  Brutal!!!!  Brutal!!!

Good luck tonight Steve!  Are you planning to run it for fun or race it to win?  What are the legs of the race?  Maybe a Trekking, boating or some combo?

One of the benefits of a Cobb saddle is the 180 day return policy.  Put 1500 miles on it if you want.

Tony - Fantasy Football...Dude I know!!! Not sure how I'm going to keep the new job, with the BT board, and scouwering the waiver wires. We had our draft yesterday. 3rd overall....I got MJD, and marion barber on the way back. 14 teams, so it gets a bit much, but I love it!

Been fixing up the basement...Thats a workout in itself. Its an undeveloped walkout, but the kids have been down there all the time. We've had a big play area for them. But we are cutting into it. Getting ready for the trainer, and treadmill. I know its early to think about it all, but this winter I am going to hit that trainer for the 1st time hard!!
Buying a nice little flatscreen for the wall, and some wireless headphones for it. Wife will never get me upstairs anymore!

I will be drafting AP, lol rolled a 666 to get first pick in the draft.  I have run this league for 10 years, back in the day when I had to buy a USA Today on Monday to get all the weekend stats to calculate who won.

I had AP in his rookie year. Took him in about the 4th or 5th round as my 2nd or 3rd back. Stud. Our draft went- AP,LT,MJD,FORTE,TURNER.

BTW, thanks for the advice everyone, not really a "problem" per se, but that is what happens when I have a free moment to think.  It is a fine line for me, I like doing all the different events but I don't like sucking in them, so that means training smarter because there just isn't time for me to train any harder.

My new wetsuit is here - anyone else feel a little kinky when they first put on the full suit?  Well, there's nothing to hide with this suit, and I thought tri shorts were revealing... Fits well, I went Med/Long.

The UPS guy handed me the box (box has a picture of an Xterra model [female] wearing a wetsuit) and says "let me know how she turns out."

Well it all comes down to navigation.  If we don't have any errors we should place pretty well, but to be honest my wife is a ROCKSTAR on the bike, but on a mtn bike racing singletrack--- May be a different story.  We will have to see what the night brings.  It's always fun!

Tonight is Mtn. Biking, and Trekking.

That would be great.  I will be in Auburn on the 2nd next week, staying at the Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel & Conference Center at Grand National, wherever that is.

You can clue us in to the good drinking establishments in the area.

Ahhhh...what a great group.  A couple hours ago I was down - not wanting to think about training.  I've taken the entire afternoon to get caught up...and now I'm ready to hit the pavement.  Unfortunately my youngest had to stay with me today so I can't get out now.

I have a bike question.  I visited a bike shop Monday while waiting for my wife's van to get worked on.  This is a side story, but one advantage to a Kia is the hour drive to the dealer - it gives me a reason to find new places to waste time (bike shops, archery shops), visit Bass Pro, or Dick's.  Anyhow, the fitter at the shop was just starting so I watched and listened and he I talked for about an hour after he finished.

In order to acclimate to aero before buying a bike, what do you all think of getting my road bike fit as an aero bike?  I'll be on the trainer mostly this winter with it - I'll hit the road some with it as well, but minimal.  I'll also have my road bike fitting dimensions to convert it back.  I realize I'll be buying some components (stem, maybe a seat post, etc) but would this be a cheap, reasonable alternative for the winter?

I say 'do it'  I wouldn't even worry about switching back to the road setup unless you plan to race Crit's.  In the tri setup it just forces your upper body a bit more forward, so worst case is that if you ride a hilly course you may need to use your drop bars more.  But otherwise you'll benefit from the forward/more relaxed position during regular road rides.

That is exactly what I did a couple of months ago.  The thing I like about adding the aerobars to my road bike is I can still sit up to climb hills and ride the hoods when I am not comfortable on certain roads due to traffic.  My seat was adjusted and I had a shorter stem put on, but that was it.  The thing I hate about the set up is having to change positions to shift.  I am also not nearly as aero on my road bike as I hope to be on a tri bike one day.

Tracy--I think you told me to look at the Equinox. My sports med doc and TREK doc just emailed me and told me to do the same thing.  Apparently the newest WSD is even smaller than before.   And it would be significantly cheaper than going custom.  Not getting my hopes up too much, but we'll see.

Reuben,  I second the aero setup on the road bike.  Perfect way to race and learn about the aero position.  Personally I've discovered I prefer the drops to the aero bars and will probably remove them now that I have a tri bike, but I never would have learned that without the setup.  And riding in the aero position is more taxing on your upper body than you are use to so winter rides on the trainer are a great way to get use to it.  Go for it.

Suzy, I'll get excited for you!   We can match and now you can have 2 twins in the mentor group!!  And I'll send you a PM about the chaffing.... I am nervous about offending anyone. Embarassed

X4 or whatever we're up to Reuben, that is what I did with my road bike earlier this year.  It is a good way to get used to the aero position.

Tracy, does that mean we'll be triplets???    actually, just sent u a pm about the bike saddle tips.
