OMG 99 cents? Here they are usually $15-20......

Yikes!

That would stop the margarita indulgences for sure.

What's the cost of a good mojito?

About the same.... if yuo are licky you can get those kinds of drinks for $10-12 but not that common....

Cost of living in Sydney is silly... sounds to me like on the same salary Id have a much better lifestyle over in the US

Morning, Nibbs!

Back from my early morning run...hoping to hit the pool after I drop off the Monkeys, because it's another day of meetings here. (The frown is for the meetings, not the pool!)

Pam - rockin' post.... you are SO awesome.

Beth - I'm pretty sure I can feel the energy from your excitement about going home for so long all the way down here

Cat - 99c margaritas can barely be called that...don't be jealous

Hi to everyone else!

I'm of half a mind just to walk away from tris entirely and only race duathlons and run races, but there's no point in me staying here as this is - despite what people say - a triathlon site that really isn't that friendly to people who Do Other Things. I'm thinking that when my current paid membership expires of having marma delete my account and moving on.

I don't think BT is *that* unfriendly to people who don't do tris. Yes, there is some amount of teasing and questioning why you don't do tris, but I think that's kind of to be expected. You could always walk away for awhile and see if you still feel the same way in 3 months. Deleting your account seems a little drastic. Is it possible you're just overwhelmed right now and you'd feel differently later?

I'm not sure. Today I'm just kind of disgusted with a lot of things. Being slow and being laughed at by certain people hurts, you know? Some things can't be papered over.

I did do some shopping therapy, courtesy of a person on bikeforums.net when I was debating the costs of swapping out the 1 piece BMX crank on Spud! for a crank that would let me install 9/16" clipless pedals - its a 1/2" crank right now. Guess what? Instead of dropping $150-$200 to do that, for $55 I got a set of adapters from Harris Cyclery in Mass that will screw into the 1/2" threads and then have a 9/16" female adapter. I've already got two sets of SPD pedals at home. So in about a week, Spud! will go clipless.

Harris Cyclery ROCKS!!!

We have a 'bike and tri' club here at work.  They set up meeting points for bikers to meet at and ride in together...all levels of experience, but we still waited for the last folks in the group (consider it a TRUE 'no-drop' ride!).  It was a good time and good conversation (even if it was with a few marketing folks )...and no-one had a 'clip-out fall-over' , so it was all good!

Morning Nibbs!

I just want to apologize to everyone here for being such a poop today/lately. I have a lot going on in my head, and its not fair of me to vocalize these issues here because its really not the place for it. I do have a lot to be thankful for... but I'm fundamentally just not happy, and its better for all if I just keep that to myself.

Again, I apologize. There's no need for anyone to respond, you've all been very helpful and have tried to be understanding, and I don't want to throw a wet blanket on anyone else's day.

apology accepted Scott! Cool

x2...now go get on the Harris Cyclery website!

C'mon, Scott. Everybody smiles at Monty Python!! I love Julie's outlook on life. Everyday is a gift, believe it or not. It is up to you to enjoy it or skulk through it until 3..2...1.. times up and it's over. Trust me. I know about being slow and getting beat and laughed at. I choose not to hang out with that crowd. I race for myself. I want to improve and pout a bit when I don't, but them it's back to the drawing board. Somebody tech saavy needs to post the pick from GalaxyQuest. "Never give up, never surrender!" I have run more in the last 2 months than I have ever run at this point in a triathlon season, yet I have no PR's to show for all those miles of pain and agony. It is frustrating, but it will not ruin my life or make me a lesser human being because I am not a fast runner. Life will go on. This is the challenge on which I thrive. And everyone on Nibbs as fantastically supportive and encouraging. I don't think anyone on this thread has ever thrown out HTFU or Suck It Up Buttercup as advice when you are really down and venting. A brief look at Nibbs: Dee - a triathlete in the making trapped at werk Beth - not only a triathlete, but a professional, a supermom, and a very experienced air traveler! Kendra - don't know if she's done a tri, but she has cutted out a few half-mary's with acute plantar fascitis(?) and a librarian to be reckoned with! Sal - triathlete, runner, husband, father, businessman and of course, maker of cheesecake! Heather - not sure if she has done a tri yet but she is definitely getting to be a tire changing wizard and if you need to set up sports tournaments or get approval for stadium spin classes, she's your woman! Cat - triathlete, professional, courageous warrior against a chronic illness, but she will never give up! The big question is has she found her fishnets and made her pumpkin soup? Julie - a part-time Nibbs, but a full time inspiration, and one heck of a sports photographer. Just look at her blog. Kristen - a triathlete who loves to run and loves her wine and lovers her kids and her sugar daddy! Jen - an incredibly intelligent triathlete with apparently very intelligent cats who steal car keys Judi - triathlete who loves to run and is so dedicated to running she frequently gets her mileage in the parking lot at work. She also recently escaped a sucky job and keeps a very tidy house while working full time, raising two teenage kids, and training for tris. Scott - you fit in here as a triathlete (yes, it's true) who has recently battled through a vicious divorce, moved cross country, can play a mean guitar(with attractive photos playing said guitar) run a marathon, introduce your GF to the wonderful world of cycling, and give your kids a healthy perspective of competition instead of the "if you don't win, you lose" mentally that your ex seems to love so much. Well, those are my before bed thoughts. I hope I didn't miss anyone. You guys are the best. I can't count the times when I've gotten way too serious about competition and have really beat myself up that y'all have put it in to perspective. Have a great night!!

Wow Pam!  Awesome summary...that was just awesome...

Heh, I think we should turn that into a bumpersticker and put it on Sal's car.

With cheesecake in bold of course...

Can you tell I just wrapped up a stressful project?  My level of stess is inversely proportional to the amount of time I spend on BT...

Sal - this is the first time I've bought anything from them.

I can feel my running form coming back now that I'm taking the runs more seriously (and bringing back frequency). 8:35 pace for my 5.1 loop today; I was routinely running that fast last October/November when I peaked for CIM.

Napa is going to be a tougher marathon, the back road from Calistoga to Napa rolls a lot. But I've got 9 months to get ready. And I'll have The Pool In Calistoga for pre-race and post-race relaxation. I love that hotel, and I'm booking a room for Saturday night.

I've decided to skip competing in Duathlon #1 in June and shoot for the July race instead. I want to blow my time on that course from last year apart, and riding with my tri club on Tues evenings is helping my bike speed. Last year, I phoned in the bike. My time is 1:52 for a 3/16/3 format and I think I can improve on that.

Scott, make sure you work on your marathon nutrition.  I think I finally got it figured out for a half marathon (water at every stop, and a gel at 5 and 9).  For a training run, it felt great, and I was only 20 seconds off a PR.  No problems with recovery after the half, was swimming and biking 2 days later.

I wish I could get my nutrition strategy right for a full.  I KNOW I could definitely run a sub-4 if I get it figured out.  We'll see what happens in Ocotber!
