Beth! Hi! Congratulations on the speedy run, runner.

Let's see, this weekend: a "long" run tomorrow -- six miles! And then if the weather holds out on Sunday I'm hoping to go for a nice long hike with some friends. I love hiking and I have a fun group of friends who are always up for a hike, but I never had time while I was marathon training. If it ends up raining on Sunday I'll probably go for a short run, or just hole up in my apartment and sleeeeeeeeeep.

I'm going to see Benjamin Button tonight. I'm a little reluctant, though, because it's long and sometimes I get so bored at movies. At least this theater serves beer.

Run and bike on Saturday. Swimming??? I forgot how-it has been so long. My excuse has been my shoulder but my shoulder seems ok now. Sunday, indoor tri. I like those because they are low key and fun.

I tried to get to the pool today but when I got there I found out they were having a big meet. Is that a good excuse?

Hi 'tees. I have been staying on schedule with my run plan! Yay! Now I just need to add in some swim and bike and I'll be golden for the tris I have planned this summer. How is everyone else? recovered from recent races? Sticking to their training plans? Getting out of bed and breathing and taking in nutrition? I know some days/weeks can be like that so I thought I'd throw that one in there. What's everybody else up to?

Hi everyone,

Thanks to those that sent some "inspires" this week.... I was still training just had a lite week scheduled, and I didn't have a chance to post during the week

However, I did something kinda cool for the first time today; since I have my first ever Sprint coming up I wanted to get a since of what to expect physically and mentally so....I decided to bike 12mi {ended up being 11.5} and run 3 {ran 3.25} other than being somewhat stiff coming off the bike at first... once I loosened up on the run it was a great day: I was happy with the pace kept in both:-)

I am glad I did this it was a big confidence booster in the upcoming race in about 4 weeks

Just started checking the blog again looks like things are going well with the Manatees

 Keep it up

 Chad

Chad, great to hear from you, and congrats on your great brick! I need reminding, too, that it's good to practice that bike-run transition and know that the weird feeling does go away.

Amy darling! You have indeed been doing a great job with the running.

I'm doing pretty well. This was the first week of Ironman training, and I did okay! Missed a swim so far (not a big deal) but that's it.

I'm caught up!  And I'm not dead!!

Thanks to Beth for the sickie shout out back on page 19, I think?  When I got back from TN, I came down with a cold that turned into a nasty sinus infection.  Ever try breathing through wet cement?  I don't recommend it.  And trying to workout like that?  Ugh.  I take a pilates/yoga fusion class...the breathe in through the nose thing wasn't working.  I finally broke down and got an antibiotic from the dotor.  Just finished them up yesterday and can now say that I remember how to breathe through my nose.

I've gotten back into the swing of things as far as regular exercise.  I'm due to start training for my HIM come March, so I should start working up my base.  My boyfriend and I are also looking at running a half mary in May.

I worry a lot that I may have gotten myself in over my head.    In addition to working full time, I'm also taking 11 credits this semester at schol.   Additionally, I'm looking at changing positions (may or may not happen), into another management osition (which means more stress/time at work).  And, as anyone in a relationship knows, that takes it's own time to ensure proper fostering and growth (And he lives in NJ...long distance.  Fun). Fitting in the training will be a juggling act.

I'm also seriously considering revising my Ironman goal.  I was initially looking at 2010 fo IM Moo.  Now I'm not so sure.  I don't know if I don't want to do one at all, if I want to push it back another year, or if I want to just postpone it for a bit.  I have about 7 months to decide...

I will do my best to keep up.

I'm really glad you're over your sickness and not dead from reading the thread (or the sickness )

You do have a crazy crazy lot of stuff on your plate. Good luck with the job decisions and outcomes.

Hope to hear from you again soon!

Hi everyone...hope your weekend is going great.

This weekend I have the following.

This is from my blog.  I am lazy efficient, like Beth taught me... LOL, so it is a cut/paste job.

I stopped by Office Depot on the way home from practice to get a rubber stamp made up.  when I got home I found ALL pictures of me in any Tri gear...especially on the Bike...and I stamped "Dumb-A$$" on the pictures.  I went and found a new bike route the other day and knew it had some hills...but ....Holyfrickinmotherfricker.  Road is 5 miles long for a total of a 10 mile ride....""not today my pissy legged little friend.""  I made 7.5 total and had to stop twice to regain my legs...I am also very new to using bike shoes with Speedplay pedals and I am still working on the clipping/unclipping routine.

This is a route I will ride again (and again) but not until I am in serious Hard Core training for my HIM in Sept.  Practice ran long today so a swim is out.  I am going to change The PLAN for Mon. and substitute a good swim for the 60 min bike since I am biking and running tomorrow.

I am going for my ride/run shortly and the run will be with Dr. GoodHands (fellow Manatee Susan).  I am going to show her how to do some of the running drills that are coming up in her plan...like strides, fartleks and tempo runs.  We will then meet with the other members of our Tri Team and do our regular Sunday 3 miler.  Weather is GREAT here this weekend and I hope everyone else is lucky to get out and do some training.

Erin:  Hope the movie was fun...A theater with BEER?  Awesome...If they had one of those around here I would take the wife to the movies more often.....who am I kidding.

John:  Hope you have a great race today.

Amy:  Great job on the running.

Chad:  Nice work on your 1st brick.  I know you will be ready for your first race in a few weeks.

Maggy:  Glad you are feeling better and the job thing will work itself out.  There are not many times in our lives we can add 10-15 hours to our schedule and x4 on the stress meter...so HEY...GO FOR IT

Yanti:  You are the GAL.  First week of IM training in the book.  You ROCK.

Hi everyone! I too have been AWOL for a couple of weeks! It's crazy how time just gets away from us!! Looks like everyone has been doing ok! Thanks to those of you who send me the "inspires". Those really make me smile. Thanks again!!

I want to report on the bike fit that I had done a couple of weeks ago. Here is a link to the place and guy that I went to in Indianapolis: http://www.fittechbylamere.com/index.html

First of all, Vern was wonderful! I have always been self-conscious about my body and my abilities. One thing I can truthfully say however, is that since losing weight, and meeting my personal goals in tri last year, my confidence level with myself has improved. Vern saw me for what I am- a sophomore year triathlete who wants to improve. He saw my body for what it was and didn't put me in a super aggressive tri position and said that as I continue to change, we can drop me down further and further. Yeah Vern!!

He had me change into my bike clothes and put me on my bike. He used a computrainer pro trainer for my bike. He did some preliminary measurements and then did some adjustments on my bike. My bike is a roadie- Trek 2100 women's frame. I learned a lot about the women's frame design, needless to say it may be a marketing ploy! Once that was done, then he put a new seat stem and seat on my bike and some aerobars. He did the adjustments necessary for that. Then, he adjusted my cleats on both pairs of my bike shoes.

I got the bike home and did a trainer ride. First thing I noticed was fatigue in my quads. He said that is normal because of the new position shifting me forward. Also, there was some lady part pain because of the new position. I've stuck with it and have been on the trainer now 5 times with the new position and yesterday was a breakthrough for me. But before I get into that I want to comment on one of the main reasons why I went to the bike fit.

I've mentioned this before, but neck pain, particularly R trap pain, was a reason why I went. Well, Yanti- I think you're the one who said this at one point or another, that that sort of thing will work itself out with more and more time on the bike. You are so right!! And it just so happens that in the newest Bicycling Magazine, it shows exercises that I can work on for this exact problem!! Woo Hoo!!

Back to the breakthrough ride yesterday: So, on deck was a 45 min foundation ride (on the trainer for me) to be followed with a 10 min transition run. I did the ride and felt good. Oh, I discovered a new way to pass the time on the boring trainer in the garage. I've been downloading the Age Grouper triathlon podcast and I listened to an episode while on the trainer. AWESOME!! Anyway, ride was great- got off of the bike and went upstairs and hopped on the treadmill and no wobbly bowl-legged legs!! That run was amazing! Since my legs were already warmed up, I could run much faster than if I was just running as my workout. (it usually takes me 20 mins or so just to warm up on a run). That new bike position totally took the work out of my hams and shifted it so that my legs would be fresher.

Was the bike fit worth it, so far, yes. I haven't had the bike out on the road yet so I can't say how I'll do handling the bike with the aerobars- but so far, love it!! Sorry about the length of this, but I had two weeks worth of stuff to talk about!! LOL. Happy Sunday to all of you!!

That's great! So overall the bike fit was totally worth it, right? And the fitter was FIST certified, right? I am thinking of having a FIST fit done in the next month or so, I just haven't bit the bullet yet.
