Shawn, I have the same struggle.  If I don't get it done before work, it usually doesn't happen.  While I can sometimes manage a workout in the evening, I am usually mentally exhausted and I find that the most challenging.  So, I've made myself a morning person.  I'm usually up before 5am and can manage an hour workout before heading to the office.  This doesn't really work for biking, unless on the trainer. Hence, I'm usually light on my bike training.

.

5AM?! I'd have more luck staying up to 5 than getting up then.... maybe that's why I don't work out more, lol - I wait too late at night & we'd be into the next day if I added more! We (daughter & I) tried running one morning at the ungodly (to us) hour of 8 or 9, and not sure which hated it more. I think we could probably suck it up & possibly get used to it, but wasn't worth the major whining from her...swimming once/week at 8am, or biking once/week at 9 still seem way early to me. Too bad all the races are scheduled for dawn vs. dusk.....I admire y'all for being able to consistently get up that early & do it.

HOLY Cow, just swam in the gator suit for the first time.  Got done with my 1/4 and the swim pro said 8:08, I had just updated my swim to 8:45.  That suit is AWESOME!!!!  That time is with 16 wall touches, sunday will be 12, I think that will knock a few seconds off as well.

I will be the handsome 6'8 guy walking around with the confused look on his face heheheh.  The gator suit will not be hard to miss heheh, it is now going to be called the superman suit.

Hi all,
Rested my knee for two days-well walked yesterday, but no running until today.  Ran 3.5-going to see Dr. Mason tomorrow for some more ART!!!!  He also gives me some pretty pink kinesio tape to wear!  ICE BATH coming up!

'm reading joe Friel's Triathlete Bible.  Are there any other good tri books to read?  I actually find this site more helpful than any book.

Here are a few of the books I have read on triathlons training and on athletes. Iron Heart by Brian Boyle. The Triathlete's guide to Mental Training by Jim Taylor and Terri Schneider one of my fav, Slow Fat Triathlete by Jayne Williams, Your First Triathlon by Joe Friel (good), Trizophrenia by Jeff Mallet (good book), John Mora's book Triathlon 101, Serious Training for Endurance Athletes by Rob Sleamaker and Ray Browning, Be Ironfit by Don Fink (serious contender for more fave) Mark Allen's Total Triathlete (another close contender), Dave Scotts Triathlon Training by Dave Scott (not read yet). Any of those you might want to read just let me know, be glad to send out to you. Really would like another more season athlete to tell me what they thought of Iron fit. There is one more that Matt Fitzgerald put out that left me with lot to think about in the Book Racing Weight.

I left Springfield in 07. Still have a lot friends and connection there (born in Jacksonville) My immediate family live south of Effingham. Still contemplating doing the olympic tri at mattoon-Greater Illini in Sept.  Sorry about the book that is why I buy used on amazon, it saves a little when you go thru books like I do.

Let us know if you plan to do that race.  I'm in Edwardsville.  I'm doing the Sprint in Effingham May 16th and the Sprint in Carlyle May 23rd.  Hopefully I'll do the Springfield Oly in July.  Haven't planned anything after that, so Matton could happen for me too.

Such a small world we live in. Springfield is definitely suffering economic woes but it's home. I actually live in Chatham now. Good call on buying used!

You certainly have hit all the usual contenders. I, too, find this site more helpful than a book. But that is to be expected, a book is the thoughts and experiences of one author. This site is a community of authors. I need to get my hands on Racing Weight. Lots of folks have said good things about that.

Today is hour and half of hill riding on the cannondale tri bike (just bought it last week). Swim class at 715- 815PM, then another half hour of one on one instruction to work on my swim strokes and breathing.  Try to get bed early for a quick run before work since tomorrow evening has been preplanned for me.  Hoping to get quick workout in before but doesn't look too promising. Have a great day everyone.

Good for you for getting a swim coach!

Have fun on the hills. They are a lot of people's downfall.
