There is a bike race here on Saturday, decided against it, last thing I need is to go flying off my bike on this island of crazy drivers and bad roads. Kinda bums me cuz usually there are only 2 to 3 women and I take either 2nd or 3rd place AND CASH!! One year someone called me at home and said "hey just race, there is only 1 woman here!" and I threw my mtn. bike on the back of my car, got to the race start, they had all left 10 min. prior and I just "did it". Took home like 50 bucks. And heavens knows right now, I could use 50 bucks. I think right now my pocket book hurts more than my body....

I am excited, but not really so yet. I think once I get up there and around more athletes it will kick in. I still have to work, painting my house, life is still just happening.....

See some of ya Friday for the G-swim.
Jodie

Jeter2 - 2006-06-13 12:04 PM Hi, Just wanted to say good luck to all of you! I had to drop out due to injury. I really wish I was there to participate, however, I will be there as a volunteer and to cheer all of you on as you become an Ironman. Again, good luck and see you all soon Kendra

Wait a minute.  You can drop out if you get injured?  How exactly did you injure yourself and would you say it was worth it?  Have you eaten red licorice or a burger since the injury?

Speaking of dreams- ever since I started this taper thing I've been having some wierd ones.  And no, not those kinds you sicko's   Really vivid dreams about people I knew in HS and haven't even thought about in 15 years, volunteers not letting me on my bike, etc.  It's happened for about 5 nights in a row.  Very strange.  Anyone else, or is it just me?

http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USID0048?from=36hr_topnav_undeclared Up till Saturday, should be nice and sunny.  Watch me get burned while gawking at the expo.

How much glare is there during the swim from the morning sunshine?

TJW - 2006-06-15 2:04 PM Race # 1331 Todd Widener

Hey 1331.  Here's from  an email from LATri about Sunday's swim.  The highlight section:

>- Warm -- 64/65ish?

>- Jamie & Paul headed off for Pago Pago. Not sure they even knew each

>other before this swim.

>- Mo & Todd put us to shame with their 2-mile, pre-ironman exhibition.

>

Ok - Jaime and Paul didn't swim to Pago Pago - that would imply we went out to sea due to bad navigation, we were simply too fast for the rest of the group and we didn't see them head to shore since we were ahead of them.

You did put us to shame though.

Not trying to be too anal about the forecast, but it got updated this morning and it looks even BETTER!!  Now predicting a low of 52 and a high of 76...20 degrees cooler than it is here in Hell south Texas.  I'm liking this a LOT.

Hey do you guys have a planned get-together yet? I have a small core one set for the Gatorade swim on Friday @ 8, but wondering if there is a BT kinda thang going on. I know there was talk of Monday Mexican and beer, but anything pre-race?

Oh anyone know how to to block out time to drive the bike course??
Thanks peeps,
Jodie

0% chance for rain on Sunday the 25.  If you look at the 25th on the link.  It says to plan a scenic drive...."How about a scenic ride and run?"  (it alternates with some other  plan.)

Not that I'm supersticious at all (as I sit here knocking on wood, holding a rabbit's foot, throwing salt over my shoulder, doing the sunshine dance, etc...) but would ya'll please stop talking about how great the weather is supposed to be.  You're gonna jinx it and then MadCow, Taleesh and I will be dropping our kids off in your hotel rooms so your families can entertain them while we're out slogging through the nor'easter you've brought down upon us. Personally, I'd rather have the kids playing outside...

Now where'd I put that live chicken...

A 2x4 and a Quarter Pounder, if it's not too much trouble.

Anyone know if non-Ironman participants can OWS? I doubt it, but if so, I'll be sure to pack a wetsuit ... just don't want to drag it out if I can't hop in the lake.

I'm going to be swimming on Friday.  8 or 8:30 AM?

My plan for Friday:
Gatorade Swim followed by registration
Lunch
Pick bike up from TriBikeTransport
Bike one loop of the run course (12:30?)
Bike course tour @ 2  (I should have a mini van)
Pasta dinner
Athlete's meeting

Chippy - I'm pretty sure you'll be able to swim.  Nobody monitors who goes in and out of the water and the swim is before registration even opens for the day.  I'm swimming before I register.

Question:  Do I need to bring my own water bottles for the bike or do they have alot of give away bottles at the expo?  are they big bottles, or a variety of sizes available?  I received a 30oz Gatorade bottle from some race, can't remember where though.  But I find it the perfect size.

I feel like a mad scientist come next Friday and Saturday nite.  Be mixing and selecting what to put in the bags.
