It has also taken on many other names (Rubbish, Trash, etc. there are copyright issues). Now, you just go in and say "cheeseburger plate" or "hot dog plate". We are simple in our destruction of health here. looks like a loco moco (hawaiian garbage plate equivalent) - where's the egg? |

Extreme Veteran 643 metro DC | Subject: RE: kenj - motivated triathletes in training - CLOSED Hi, group - belated happy new year to all! Have enjoyed skimming last 10 days' of posts...and happy to be back in the land of healthy & training. Life sure gets in the way sometimes, doesn't it?My #1 goal for 2012 was to try to maybe catch up on work & sleep enough to not feel guilty for leisure reading on BT to catch up with folks so goal #1 now accomplished! Also got back in the pool last night, which was the first anything in ...well, the longest stretch I've gone I think in a few years, including when I sprained my ankle this time last year. Love seeing the goals in the posts, and the diet talk makes me think about re-trying paleo, but tracking portions & recording what I eat this time to see if that makes a difference... only thing I've done that's kept me from feeling really hungry, but don't like the 30 pounds I've regained over the last 1-1.5 years. So that's my #2 goal, that and getting back in the training groove. Swam last night & felt great to be moving and in the pool - truly my favorite way to train. Might even try running tomorrow..., and looking forward to rejoining killer spin class on Sunday.Biggest training goal-wise, besides hoping some day not to hate running, is getting back to good, consistent strength training - my body just likes it, and I definitely need it. RE saddles, fwiw, I have the Adamo road saddle and love it - did a lot of research before buying it, and found a LBS that had a loaner I could try for a while first, but I knew as soon as I sat on the thing it'd be a huge improvement. Took me longer than I thought to break it in (not sure what I expected, but still took "longer" whatever that means), but well worth it. |

I was hoping to have a relaxing first week back and keep up with my running and add in 1-2 trainer rides, alas it was not in the cards. My 1st grader can home from school with head lice and immediately gave it to my 2 yr old Brushing out everyone's hair and treating the bedding/house was exhausting. Then my 4 yr old's babysitter (he goes to half day pre-K) told me she will be moving in a couple weeks (unexpected) and can no longer watch him after school. So now, I'm scrambling for a child care situation for him. On a good note, I am going running tomorrow morning with a friend, so hopefully last week was a fluke and next week with be more relaxing and productive training wise. |

About 45 miles of riding. Looks like it is going to start off a little cool, 38 degrees or so but be in the 60's by the time we finish. Anyone else training or working out today? Looks like the weather is fairly nice across the country! |

I really liked the idea of it and wanted it to work so badly but realized on my long rides leading up to IMAZ that it wasn't going to work. the width of the nose (well half nose) was just to wide and was effecting my nerves. I was getting pain shooting down my legs, etc. I know that they have a new saddle out that has a narrower nose so I might look into that at some point. |

(do they really have bikes that are just demos or are they ones that they rent?) When I bought my two bikes, I just road the ones that were on display. When I was shopping for tri bikes, I road a very expensive bike (not the one that I purchased) and kept thinking.. "I better not crash or scratch this thing!" I would have felt much better it if was a demo. I am curious about this as I have thought about bike rentals before when I have been away but have never pursued it.

My LBS does Rentals. He has high ends and a little lower ends for several sizes. Rents out Trek Madone, Pinarello, and Cannondale. The Pinarello is a $7000 bike, and he rents them out for a good price ($120 - I know that's high, but hey, this is a HIGH priced bike). They also rent out hybrids and mountain bikes of all different sizes. After they're used and abused for a year, they are sold to the public for fraction of the cost. Sure there will be scratches or problems, but they will replace the chains, fix up major scratches, and get it going as brand new again. I don't know, but I do wonder if the bike shops' bike brands give them demos to play around with and let it be demos for the customers. I do wonder what happens if you crash it though. |

Looks like the weather is fairly nice across the country! On tap - 55 minutes of running. I think I'm going to cut that short to 45 minutes. It'll be an easy run, but doing 55 minutes is a little daunting (even though I have done a half marathon last month...go figure). |

With that being said, I did hit it a little harder yesterday than I have been lately. I'm a little worried about my first 1/2 marathon next Saturday but I'm going out to finish, not try to set any records. Although I am 100% positive it will be a PR. I'm going to run about 3 miles in the morning and then one more short run on Tuesday before the race. |

Some stores have rentals, which is where I would have gone if I didn't have this option. I think the manufacturer gives the stores a couple of demos for the managers to use. In this case the manager and I ride the same sized bike. When I was out here full time last year I bought a pretty high end bike from them (although it was on year end clearence), but he also helped me prep my tri bike and tuned both my bikes. He told me when I went back home if I ever came back out over a weekend he would set me up if he still had the bike or another that size. This particular shop doesn't do rentals though. Most of the guys that used to be in the Saturday group were still there, so it was great to catch up with them. It was an awesome ride! |
