Had a productive week of training.  Got my key workouts in but scaled down to 1 swim since my shoulder is still bugging me.  PT does seem to be helping.  Got in my first 10 mile run of the season and felt good.  i'm enjoying building a good base in the early season instead of playing "catch-up."

Contemplating a race early May as a warm-up to my HIM in June.  It's called Devilman in NJ and it's between a HIM and olympic.  .8 mile swim, 40 mile bike and 8.8 mile run.  It would still leave me 3 weeks before REV3 Quassy.  Decisions decisions!

Long work week ahead where I need to be in early most mornings.  Planning a lot of short, high intensity workouts (except for the swimming.)

Hope everyone gets off to a good week!

Even though I didn't get a work out in last week due to demands of family and work, I was still able to get my long run in.

I did a long, slow 9.2 miles of the actual course of my Iron Girl Half Marathon. Its a benefit to live so close to a race.
I felt a little sore so I took double time stretching. Afterwards I had an 8 HOUR hair appointment and surprisingly, my body took the time to rest and I have no stiffness or soreness.

This week, I will be re-doing my workouy schedule so I can keep on track.

Good job on that long run! Glad you were able to recover well. I think I would go insane if I had to sit through an 8 hour hair appointment!!!

The benefit of an 8 hour hair appointment is that I don't have to do my hair for 3 months!. Wash once a week or after swimming, towel dry or air dry and go.

Looks like everyone is starting to ramp up as the season approaches.  I'm run focused for the next few weeks with the Danbury half marathon coming up on April 1.  Hoping I can clock in a 1:45ish time.  If so, that will put my mind somewhat at ease for the run at the Rev3 Quassy in June, and I can switch focus to my bike in April as the weather turns nicer.  Speaking of bikes, I ordered a new bike today for the upcoming season.  Very excited about it; I'll post pictures when it gets in.

Hope everyone has a good week.

Congrats on the new bike! That is very exciting.

I had to squeeze in a very short run this afternoon -- 1.5 miles. I tried to make up for the short distance by running harder than normal. Still slow by the rest of the world's standards, but I was very pleased with the pace. It felt good to know what that pace would feel like if only I could maintain it over longer distances.

I got a good swim and some time in on the trainer yesterday. It was my first 2000 yard swim in quite a while. I have been having some shoulder soreness with swimming so I've been re-building slowly. The shoulder felt pretty good yesterday, so I was happy about that!

Long run (but not that long) on tap today....

Good day everyone, I hope all is well. I have been reading more then posting lately, so I thought I should get caught up and stop lurking.

Tracy- an 8 hr hr appt???? Mine are 8 mins at best

Felicia - Congrats on the job change. Mine just went the other way and I am already beginning to fear that it was not the best decision. But they'll get the best I have to give for as long as I can, because "to give anything less then your best is to sacrifice the Gift" (Steve Prefontaine). I hope that you can move back to the original job without any hard feelings. Good Luck.

David - Congrats on the bike. New toys are always fun. Please let us know how it goes.

Maggie - Base building is sooo important. Keep it up!

Jenny - Have fun with the program. I still am in awe of no rest days. You are my idol

I am on the last few days pre HM. Slow steady runs for the rest of the week, no bike (or maybe one day). A fast run on Tuesday morning that came as a bit of a surprise. All in all, I think I am ready to go. Packet Pickup is on Friday, race on Sunday. Next job is to sign up for the tri season. I think I am down to 2 races. Our youngest daughter is getting married, we have our 25th anniversary cruise scheduled and this is shaping up to be a pretty busy year. So racing will probably take a back seat. Which is OK, I have found the training is what I enjoy. And building for next year will be the main training focus for this year. I have also found that I don't want life to be that thing that happens while I was busy planning. Life is here to live, so I will adjust and enjoy!

I hope everyone has an outstanding week

Chris -- good luck with your HM this weekend. You've trained well. Congrats on the new job. I'm sure you will figure it out. I loved my job until a few months ago. I think I'm just burned out.

I received my contract for next year -- all teaching. I can't tell you how relieved I was. Today was non stop from 8:00 to 6:00 -- I even had a breakfast meeting with a prospective faculty member and a lunch meeting with prospective donors. Add into that two classes, chapel, and a three hour faculty meeting and there was not a lot of time left for much else.

I did get in a 50 minute trainer ride this evening, however.

Tomorrow, I go to Topeka for some meeting with state people. I swear -- these meetings are scheduled for me -- I'm told where to be and when, and I don't know what in the world I'm supposed to do. That's exactly how the lunch thing today was. My instructions were to "show up" and "talk about myself." The good thing about it was that the chicken sandwich was amazing --  poppy seed dressing and grapes in it.

I plan on getting a swim in before leaving for Topeka. A run in the evening would be nice, but I don't have a clue what time I'm getting home tomorrow night.

Enough complaining! lol Spring break is next week. I can survive until then.

Good luck this weekend! Sounds to me like you have your priorities in order... Some important stuff coming up for you this year! I'm kind of with you - training is what I enjoy most. Sometimes I almost feel like races get in the way of my training!

Woot -- first ride outside for the year today.  Felt good to get out instead of on the trainer.  Dressed too warmly so I suffered a bit (actually more than a bit) from overheating.  Also forgot that being on the trainer doesn't toughen your neck/arms as much.  Think I will be a bit sore tomorrow.  Hope everyone has a good training day.

I went outside to ride today too! It was relatively short (just out for about an hour) but felt GREAT!

oh wow...I've been really bad about posting.

I recently moved to a new facility and new team at work.  What this means is that I am moving from a place where life was slow and therefore I was alloted ample time to screw around during work on wonderful websites like this one (yes, your tax dollars at work folks) to a new place where there is now so much work on my plate that I will be lucky to take lunch for the next year.

Which is good.  I'm really not complaining.

Regardless...my training has been sort of hit or miss.  I'm still teaching way more than I want to, and not able to get in my other training.  But I have a good plan for the weekend.  It's supposed to be really nice here so I'm going to go run during my lunch tomorrow (assuming I can get away) and dust the bike off on Saturday and go run on Sunday.  I don't teach at all this weekend...so outside I go!

You all sound like you're doing amazing things.  You keep me motivated to stay focused on the upcoming race season!

How cool, it is a great feeling when you can start doing something that brings you joy after a layoff. Getting back to it is just so nice. Outside sooo beats the trainer (I don't even have one) or the treadmill. Congrats on the nice day. Time to adjust the clothing and figure it all out again

Don't want to jinx it but..weather is looking great the next week, so I'm planning lots of rides this week..can't wait to finally be outside again.  I'm trying to keep my expectations low (as well as the mileage) as I don't want to overdue it.

On the flip side, you never know when I workout opportunity suddenly appears.  Since I don't work on Fridays it's my grocery shopping, catch up and clean the house day..but we had a 2 hour power outage here....so nothing else to do but go for a nice long run!  No expectations, just killing time!!  Great run.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Chris - you'll be glad to know that I took a rest day yesterday.... This was one of those times when I was both feeling a bit fatigued AND felt like I needed to catch up on other stuff. So, like I said, while I don't necessarily have rest days "scheduled", I do take them!

I have found that my routine almost works better when I don't schedule a rest day, but just listen to my body/mind!  This week I was just overwhelmed with exhaustion both mentally and physically and just took a couple days easy and one day off and now I feel completely ready (besides a small cold.which could account for some of the exhaustion).  I guess my philosophy is I let the rest day come to me instead of planning it ahead of time.  I know that doesn't work for everyone's schedule (even mine sometimes), but that's why triathlon works so well for me.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! It seems spring is beginning to spring here in SE PA. Not that we really had that much of a winter.... I'm looking forward to more outdoor riding! Short run and longer bike are on the schedule for me today. What's everyone else up to? I think we had a couple of folks racing last weekend -- how did it go?

Nice deal on the weather. I really like this time of year, although Fl never got cool this winter. I don't own a trainer, and I'm not sure I ever really want to. I haven't stopped riding all winter and only once was I at all concerned about temps.

I was one of those who raced this weekend, and I met both of my goals, setting a PR and beating my sister. The weather was warm, and it really gave her trouble. She is a treadmill trainer, and I really believe that my outside training payed off this time. I am taking today (and probably tomorrow) completely off. Nothing but rest and relaxation. Oh yeah, and work.

I hope everyone else had a great weekend as well, and an even better week to come.

Almost 80 today. Amazing. I went for a short run in shorts and a short sleeved tech shirt, and I was too warm. It was wonderful.

It's spring break this week, so while I still have a lot to do a work, it is a different kind of work. I was able to update my race log with the races I'm hoping to do -- one a month beginning April 15. They are all sprints.

I also went outside for a short bike ride yesterday -- just a slow family ride, but it was still wonderful.

No swimming this week -- the pool is closed for Spring Break, so I should be able to work more on the bike and the run.

Hey Guys, everyone seem to be doing well.

I had skipped swimming the last 2 weeks but I went back on Saturday. After swimming laps and doing drills, my form must have been deteriorating because the coach had me put my fins on. Then she wathed me and said:
"...your arms are now reaching with a perfect stroke, so your kick is the problem!". Not the first time I heard that. Now i have to get to the pool a few times a week to do kicking drills.

That hour swim was followed by a 10 mile run on the back end of my half marathon course. I have been doing 8-10 mile loops on the front end. The back end was OMG HARD!! One long hill alone seem to wipe me out and started my lowever back hurting. I think I leaned into it too much. It was a looooong 10 mile run. Race day is going to be a challenge.

Tonight's 5 miler went really good. I felt great and still had energy at the end.

Let's keep on fighting and training!
