Or are you just trying to pad your post count? :/ D001 - 2007-11-15 2:40 PM kaqphin - 2007-11-14 10:38 PM If you add up all his goals, it comes out to 25. When he gave his goals, he said 25 workouts. Then he broke it down by activity. (But it adds up to 25.) Yes, we'll let him make the call. D001 - 2007-11-15 2:35 PM kaqphin - 2007-11-14 8:45 PM Um. Yes? LOL OK, I see. Do you want me to delete the "25 workouts" line? Or do you just want me to record "9" on that line? Your call. DTraub - 2007-11-15 12:41 PM Yay team! Also a possible bump to our stats.... I have as a goal 25 total workouts and then broken down by sport... I didn't report that I've done 9/25 workouts.... just each of the individual-- so it's possible that that is a 0% bringing us down. Or perhaps not. Anyhow... I'm stilll a bit under the weather but am back on the workout plan. DT Oh good catch.... Oh Dee!!!! The fact you remember that is kind of freaky with all the people in on this challenge! I will let the person concerned make the call... I think 25 workouts was a spearate goal... so add the 9 o the line? The fact you remember that is kind of freaky with all the people in on this challenge! That was teh comment... somewho I put it in the middle of the tecxt Oh, OK -- I see it. Got lost in the middle there. Remember? Um. No. I opened up the spreadsheet and looked. You think I remember everyone's goals? Hahahahahaha. I consider it a good day when I remember my own. LOL |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's Hrm looks like lastnight's post studdred and landed twice, oh well. A brick is when you do 2 workouts back to back to simulate a portion of the Triathlon. So for instance a common brick is to do your bike ride and then immediatly transition into your run. It got the name brick because the first time you do a longish bike to longish run transition your legs feel like bricks, heavy, dead, not very flexable. You could also do a swim to bike brick, but it would not be nearly so brickish as you do not use your legs for swimming in the same way you use then for the bike. I try to do 2-3 bike to run bricks per week to help my body get used to the idea that I am not done after the bike ride. So for example, lastnight I did 26 miles on the bike and then transitioned to a 3.6 mile run right away. I change the distnaces of both in an effort to strengthen one coponent or the other. So this week I did a 8.5 mile bike and 8.5 mile run (run heavy), lastnight was ballenced 26 mile bike, 3.6 mile run, Saturday will be bike heavy 40 mile bike, 2.5 mile ish run. Hopefully I will be able to build up to a 26 mile bike, 6.2 mile run for an Olympic distance brick at some point, but I am not there yet. Hrm stomach not feeling so good today, throat kind of scratchy, getting sick is not gona be happy 3 weeks before my first tri 8(. Edited by Baowolf 2007-11-15 10:30 AM |

Hrm stomach not feeling so good today, throat kind of scratchy, getting sick is not gona be happy 3 weeks before my first tri 8(. Dont train right through bein sick! You are much better taking a couple of days off and resting... At this stage in the training you're bosy has absorbed almost all of the training it can before the race so you are almost ready to taper anyway. Better to have a few extra rest days and be 100% healthy than train through extending the illness and affecting the next 3 weeks... although I know its really hard to accept a few days off so close to the race! Just remember the adaptation from training happens when you are resting and recovering after the stimulation from training so the resting is a GOOD thing
Most training programs I have seen only tend to do a brick once a week or once a fortnight and for longer distances are usually your long ride for the week followed by a short run... starting at something like 15 minutes and getting longer... it gets you used to the jelly leg feeling you feel getting off the bike and having to run. The swim to bike brick is much more unusual but just as beneficial because in swiming most of the blood is of course working your arms and some people can get a bit dizzy or uncomfortable when they go from horizontal to vertical and have to run to transition then ride! Just my .02 - when it comes to training there are always lots of opinions! |

Steve, don't worry too much about losing any fitness just before your 1st tri. I ran my best 5K time EVER after being really, really sick. I didn't even push myself on that race since I was still feeling yucky! Who knows what I could have done! Bottom line.....don't stress about it. Just take it easy and get your transition bag set up just the way you like it! Take care everyone!

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's I think it is just the stomach thing my son had lastnight, fairly short lived. The throat seems to be better today after being up and about. So hopefully I'm mostly dodging the bullet. Ya I do more bricks than most plans call for. Part of it is just a time constraint, I find it hard putting in 8-10 hours a week without doubling up. I can only do longer workouts so many days a week so I double up some. I still have trouble doing much more than 3 miles after a 25 mile bike ride though, something I would like to improve on. I am sure it is just an overall fitness thing, but I like to check to see how far I have to go yet before I can consider doing an Oly. So far I am not close on the longer run after the longer bike. So I just keep on keeping on. It doesn't hurt the number either, pushing 70 % + in most catagories for the challenge 8). Oh and my muscles have been sore for a few days (taper next week anyway) so I used the marathon stick, which has resulted in several muscles feeling better today. But, for the first time I used the stick on the under/arch part of my foot, man they were tight. So I am still feeling the arch and shin a bit today but the calves and thighs are much better. I will be using that again tonight. It really localizes the muscles that are tight and ohh you can feel it when working them out a bit. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: November "You Choice" Challenge Team Wild Hippo's Well, I don't have the patience for building up enough callus to do barefoot running in the winter... so this is the next best option. They are awsome for getting you to run in proper form. You can't bring yourself to heal strike at 6 + mph, it just wont happen. And then your form carries through to running with the shoes on. It really helps for going downhill without smacking your heal on the ground and slapping your foot forward alll the way down. I hope to build to maybe 1 5k per week in them, shrug who knows.
