All this is so much better than the hour and a half I spent on the trainer this morning

Thanks for the birthday gifts, and I'll be having real steak and twice baked potatoes this evening.  Hopefully, there will be some Desoto gift certificates with it.

Although, if anyone wants to pitch in for a 2009 Litespeed Blade...

Ok, I can pitch in $5.  That gets you close, right...

We're like $14,995 away now!  We can do this!

Seriously... thanks for all the well wishes and delicious looking pics/gifts.  We had a good one.  Great steaks and potatoes, and oh yeah, a wetsuit is definitely coming my way!

Y'all are awesome!  Thanks again!

Good morning group!  I am having one of those energetic mornings where my brain is racing a hundred miles a minute and I'm doing 10 things at once.  Hopefully one or two of those things will actually be work related.  LOL

Not sure where this energy is coming from ... maybe it was my early morning swim or the venti skim misto that I have almost finished!  Last night I wanted to lay on the couch, eat Reese's Peanut Butter cups and watch the Tour de California w/ my husband.  But alas, I dragged myself outside into the dark and cold for a 45min 4 mile.  Yes I took it slow but hey I got out there.

I did have some motivation though - I was jogging up to the pool to sell my old masters swim ticket.  Good riddins to that snobby, disoragnized bunch!  I tried a new group on Monday and felt much more at home.  In the year or so I had tried the other program I had pretty much talked to  nobody and always felt out of place.

Monday I met the coach, a local university swim coach, and he was very nice.  I met the ladies in the slow lane and they spoke to me.  Wow I was shocked.  And one is training for an Ironman in Sept.  And she is in my lane!  That made me feel better right away.  So I hope to return on Monday for 2 days a week w/ that group and one on my own.

Well hope everyone is having a good day.

Hey everyone -

I gotta put a plug in for the 100 push ups rountine. I just completed week 5 and i anticipate 75 pushups for my fit test. This number, considering i started being able to only do 27 in a row, is very encouraging. It has definately help my swim and i'm getting some sweet looking shoulders. As i travel a great deal for my career, this is a great way to get ft right in the hotel room. I recommend this program to anyone interested in getting stronger.

On another note, is anyone in this group doing Escape from Alcatraz? I need some info on the course and preparations.

Wow, someone has way too much energy for a Wednesday.  Too much caffeine, perhaps?  Wink

My daughter's swim season ended with a loss in the semi-finals.  She was sad, not so much about the meet but because there are no more practices.  She wanted to swim so badly that she got up at 5:30 am and came to the pool with me.  I don't think she's ever willingly gotten up that early before.  She was alittle late getting to school, and told me we should go earlier next time.  I wish I had recorded her whining last October when I was dragging her to the pool to practice for try-outs and her complaining about how the chlorine was ruining her hair.  (Yes, this same kid was bleaching her hair and dying blue streaks in it last week.)  What a difference a few months makes.

Having her in the pool is motivation to swim faster.  I lost count of how many times she lapped me.

A bunch of us are doing slacking off on the 100 push-ups thing.

Okay, others are doing it, I'm slacking off.  I got to week 4 and stalled.  It is a pretty good program.  I just need to start doing them again.

I don't remember anyone on the group talking about this race, but there is an "official" discussion thread on the California forum.  Should be here:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=142087

It looks like there are 29 BTs signed up so far.

(75 pushups is awesome, BTW.)

I didn't make it that far.  How shall we keep each other accountable?

I guess that I am still working on establishing a routine...hmm

On a good note...I have been getting stronger despite my negligence to keep up with the push-up program.

I received a picture of the girls with their Christmas snow in florida...

It seems that it's journey across the states had a bit of an effect on it's physical characteristics...

But they're not likely to find better snow anywhere in Florida.

Last week the youngest took a chunk of it to school for show and tell (in a cooler with dry ice).  Then she brought it home and put it in the freezer again.  Laughing

I wonder how long their 'snow' will last.

That's a great pic.  It's funny how something so small can make kids so happy!

I had to abandon the pushup challenge til after my HIM.  Between 2 core classes and 3 swims a week, I wasn't doing anything well.  I'm looking forward to a second half of the year challenge.

Has anyone found that their training schedules have gotten turned upside down on certain weeks?  I've found that I have needed to move everything around for one reason or another this week.  I guess that's ok.  I'm still getting my workouts in.  And to be honest for someone at my level and committment, it seems that the order is the least of my worries.  Granted I may not be getting 100% benefit from the workouts but I'm getting the miles.  Any thoughts?

Count me in on the slacking.  I think about to start week 4 for the third time.

It definitely works.  I went from starting with 30 or so to around 67.  I think if I wasn't in the middle of this HIM plan, I'd feel more inclined to do them, but I'm just feeling run down constantly.

Man, I'd love to do that race someday.  Check old race reports off this site, and also shoot some questions to the people who have done it before.

I'm there this week.  My wife is in a wedding in Memphis this weekend, and we're leaving tomorrow night, so no biking this weekend for me.  I'm having to cram in Trainer rides of 2hrs, an hour and a half, 45 minutes, and 2hrs this week.  Completely sucks, and it's a low, low, low swim week (I hate those).

The order I get my stuff in looks almost nothing like the laid out plan.  Really, the guideline I follow is to keep it in the same week, and try to avoid doing long bikes before long runs.  In the end, for us mere mortals who are testing out the long distances, it really is all about the total volume of your plan.  Do it when you can do it.  No biggie.

That's awesome about your new Masters class, too.  The one at my pool has a grand total of four people, and the big one at another pool costs extra on top of a membership.  I actually love swimming, so I really don't mind doing it by myself, so I just keep plugging away during lunch, when there is nobody else in the pool.

This month I've been juggling wos like crazy- the schedule has become a mere outline... So many things get in the way - and then factor in the crappy weather. That said, i've noticed over the past couple weeks a marked improvement in fitness - so getting in the volume/minutes anyhow anyway seems to be mostly working.  So x2 on what Bill said...

All i can say now is thank gourd for recovery week next week! I'm feeling a bit fatigued.

Push ups - mostly on schedule, but repeating Week 4 with 2nd column as I didn't pass "the test"...

umm, YES!   Live is sooo crazy!    I would really like to keep somewhat close to a schedule, but there have been lots of things working against me.  Hopefully it will get better.  We have had an unusually cold winter and tons of days have been really frosty/icy making my morning runs a no go.

I now have the gym membership and I have found some group sessions and master's workouts that I like.  Hopefully this and a change in weather will make workouts a little easier to manage.  It helps that the gal who coaches master's is good at keeping me accountable...and the people are really friendly and polite...and it isn't overcrowded.

I am trying to keep my workouts varied and if I am short on time I will put in a really quick workout rather than skipping it.  It will help me establish a routine.

I think that I can safely say that my swim splits are getting faster.  After an hour long water exercise thing-a-ma-jig I did a few laps.  My 100 pull splits were just under 1:45 and my 200 crawl splits were at about 3:30.  I counted strokes per length (something that I have never done before) and I typically came up with 17-20 strokes per 25 yards.

Yay-hooray!

This week and last are the first weeks when all my workouts have been on the scheduled days.  I'm trying very hard to stick to the plan, working on making the training schedule a habit.  (They say 28 days, right?

I am sooooo frickn exhausted.  I just had an early dinner and I am now tucking myself in for a nice nap.  It will be simply wonderful.

After that?  maybe some pushups.  I haven't been very good about them, but that is largely because I have been getting thorough upper body workouts in school and at home...various projects that require a bit of muscle.

*yawn*

alright, I'm out for now.  Later folks.
