MaesMama - 2009-01-22 6:02 PM what do you all think about walking a half-mary??? Yes or no. I have a marathoner friend trying to talk me in to doing a half mary... IN MARCH!! I don't run and a 5k takes me 45 minutes. Help me out y'all. What do I do?? Accept the challenge or politely decline.

eh... my SIL is coming out in April to do a 1/2 Mary, I told her if she'd come I'd do it with her... so I guess now I'm walking a 1/2 Mary...
The one thing I'm thinking of now is working on flexibility, b/c I'm really worried about my hip flexors more walking than running...

January???
Well, I did pretty good earlier this month sticking to my plan, but I fell off the wagon somewhere along the way...
I'm trying to get back on...
I'm frustrated, b/c I know I've been doing a lot, but I'm losing NONE of my holiday weight

I know I need to run more, but I HATE the TM (and it's at work, which is really hard for me to make the time to get on) and the air outside right now is HORRIBLE (we need storms bad)

I'm worried I won't reach my goals that I set for January... well at least my running goal

My January goal is still possible ... not likely ... but I will hit the pool hard and try to get close to it. *IF* we get some nice weather though I am DEFINITELY going to get outside. I work in the dark all day - literally - in the radiology department at a hospital. So if there is some sunlight and reasonable temps I am running out the door. If the temps are above 45 I will ride but I don't really have the attire for much cooler than that and find I get nice and chilled biking in cold weather - and then get sick. Not again. Blecch.

And I am still working on this holiday pudge. I will call it fudge pudge as I have a terrible weakness for chocolate.

Hi gang!

Well, I got into the gym today because I was able to have my step daughter stay home and watch the boys.  They're still sick, but slowly getting better.  I'm hoping by next week we'll be back on track.

Soooo.... the gym today.... remember I told you about my sadistic trainer?  He made me do 10-15 push ups after EVERY exercise.  Total count for my one hour training session?  200 pushups.  Yep, you read that right.  The first 55 were on my toes, the next 135 were on my knees, then he made me do the last 10 on my toes again.  He stood up on a piece of equipment and yelled out the last 10 for the whole gym to hear.  I think he's going to make me do those every time now.

Swimming on Monday.  I need nose plugs.  I'm not very excited about snorting half the pool again.  I think I'm going to try to get an outdoor run in this weekend.

Since we are talking about swimming, someone caught me on video swimming.  Feel free to provide analysis:

You and I have the same suit!!  Well, mine is much bigger.    As you get closer to your 'A' race you might want to eliminate the part of your swim training where the nice lady in the boat picks you up.  I think you might get a DQ for that type of assistance at IM.

Hey everyone. Sorry I've been MIA, we've had lots going on. I will read up today hopefully and update my logs.

This part of our plan wasn't planned but in addition to our mtb park and club we are opening a shop in town, so needless to say my head has been spinning and I've had minimal computer time, still getting my workouts in and working hard on my nutrition.

Will update more later...Have a great friday

Spinerval reviews:

8.0 - Recovery and Technique-good recovery workout but was harder than I thought it would be.  Lots of one leg pedaling drills and HC spins.  Not the most exciting workout but very useful for working on your pedal stroke.  Rated a 7.5.

9.0 - Have Mercy-yes, have mercy indeed.  This is rated "10" on the difficulty scale.  Since I have been doing a lot of Z1 bike workouts, this was incredibly difficult.  Lots of work in the BCR using mostly 15 down to the 12 cog.  Some standing sets and some HC spins sets.  The 2 hours went by quickly.  I did have to take a couple of rest breaks to get my HR down.

Any great swimmers in our group?  I am trying to get the concept of hip drive.  Could someone explain how it should feel?

You gotta do what you gotta do! Listening to your body is very important and I think it is a very smart move. Time to recalibrate and get yourself charged up again. Enjoy your week off. Rest is good!

Actually,  you are doing exactly what a leader should do.  Showing us that we need to listen to our bodies, it is ok to take time off when needed, and burn out happens to even the best.

You are teaching a valuable lesson that we will all remember.  Take your time coming back.  It will be well worth the wait.

Hello all,

Here is my plea for you.

Last year, I shaved my head to benefit pediatric cancer research and support. One of the kids I shaved for last year passed away June 9 from the same cancer that killed my Uncle's sister. On March 7, I will be shaving my head in memory of this young girl who was only 9 yrs old when she passed over the summer. Please help me raise some money in this young girl's memory. Feel free to pass it along.

I couldn't resist when her mom e-mailed me and asked if I would shave my head again... this time in memory of her daughter and by her side. I remember her e-mail last year that she just couldn't bring herself to do... shave her head. I couldn't say no to this woman when she contacted me today. She didn't have to, but she chose to. So I said yes and now I am signed up to go bald again.

Yep! Just my normal off the road funk caused mainly by long hours poor food and stress.

Now I have something serious that I hope there is no cure for. Came home from work dinner was ready and I have a headache. Soooo I ran 1.28 miles, not a lot not fast but I did that so now I'm not as hungry and the headache is much lower
