I really enjoy doing interviews, but jees I hate it when the candidate is unprepared and can't give specific examples of when they were as good as what they were telling you.

I mean seriously, that's an hour of ghoulie crushing time I just won't get back

billsorg - 2010-10-06 2:52 PM Just curious, does anyone have any races coming up?  Personally, I'm done for the year.

I've got a sprint in early Dec (tri season just starting out here), a century ride this weekend and a fight in 9 days. Think I'll see how training goes over the next month (need some swimming improvement) and then I'll see what other races to plan for the season.

A century ... that's hard core!

I'm very excited about your fight! Sooooo much fun ... I can't even think of any good tips and I used to coach competition martial arts ... same as tri, HAVE FUN!!! Be vested in the journey and the experience, not the outcome.

ha ha, well I can't lie, I love the training and the experience but I will be VERY upset if I lose....so I don't plan to!

The century will be fun too, with some of my running friends. Its technically not a race as the roads aren't all closed but I suspect my competitive nature will take over....

A-ha! So what IS the plan to win?

Well, I'm fitter than her and Ive got the reach advantage so keep her away with my jab and push kicks, keep my guard up (all shes got is hands), chop away at her leg, corner her and then grab on and kill her with knees in the clinch
I'm hoping for a first round KO, lol, but if that plan fails I should win with a higher work rate. If I can just remember to breathe.....

I was open category (heaviest fighting weight was 107kg) and my favourite strategy was to unleash a torrent of kicks on them until they got forced off of the matts, always found the second time easier and bought an instant disqualification.  Always fun against some very big boys trying to do this.  Wish I could have used my knees in a clinch, had way too many shorter opponents grab me to stop me kicking them.

Yeah, I've been slacking a little on my posting responsibilities today. I had a meeting this evening and it looks like some responsibilities are going to change. I don't know the details yet but it will involve more time which will mean less time for BT and training. I probably won't get as much posting in but I should still have enough time to meet my training goals for the month.

I have my hour's worth of reading I have to do and still haven't gone for my run today so I'm going to have to take a break again. I'll try to check back later if its not to late when I finish things up.

So, no clunch work in TKD right? Excuse my ignorance, as far as martial arts go I really only know the ones I've trained in, but there are throws?

Not during the actual fighting tournaments, we got taught some basics, but they are a no-no when in a tournament.  Quite a bit of what we got taught was not allowed to be used in that situation.

I did think of doing a different style to learn better grapling, when my son is old enough to do some martial arts, might steer him in that direction and then learn with him.  He's already keen to cut loose on the punching bag in the shed regularly and loves putting on the gloves so figure he'll want to do it at some stage (currently is 3)

I just got back from my run and oh what a beautiful night. If it wasn't so wet outside I would love to just lay on the grass and watch the stars and the fluffy clouds float by. Nights like this is why I am a night person.

Listen everyone. Do you hear that? Those are warning bells you hear in the background. The Ghoulies have passed us up on the official challenge. I just updated the spreadsheet and they are up by 1.4%. We have some work to do. Let's get out there and exercise and definitely update that spreadsheet when we're done. We need to show those Ghoulies that we take this challenge seriously.

rnihill - 2010-10-06 10:20 PM It's been quiet for a while so you all may be off doing other things...  but when you are bored at work later, here's a question.  Is it possible to develop an ear infection WEEKS after your last swim?  My ears have been bothering me since my last race.  But I got home tonight and my right ear has sharp pains and go in and out of "tunnel hearing".  I'm achy but also just plain tired...

Other than feeling generally crummy I feel well enough to do some running - so don't go getting all excited, Ghoulies!  Just trying to decide if I should actually go have it looked at.  Or am I turning into a hypochondriac?

Maybe you picked up some bacteria and have been carrying it around while it slowly reproduced enough to cause a problem?

Any suggestions?

I'm in the midst of catching so someone may have already answered this. If you have a thread that you want to turn off, there is a toggle link at the bottom of the thread page. That's the way I have always turned them off for me.

Thanks Paul! We worked through this problem last night and I'm happy to say my inbox is BT free.

Emmanem - 2010-10-06 11:24 PM Trying to work on my thesis last 2 15+ page articles I've read have little to nothing to do with my thesis... *sigh*  It's gonna be a long night if this continues.

If you need some help working on it I know a great comic...

http://www.phdcomics.com/

It's all about the struggles completing a masters/phd and the procrastinating adventures along the way. A great comic for anyone! Check it out if your bored or need a break.

I am about to do my planks for the day, then out into the morning dark to run 4km. Saturday or Sunday (scheduled for Sunday) I have a 9km run that should give us a bit of a boost since my goal is 70km for the month.
