down a pound or so, and clothes fitting more the way they should.

Goal this week is 55 miles that include a long farlek style run, a track workout, and an interval workout on the trails.

Hello all.

So, the battery in my scale has died.  I tried to pick up a new one when I was shopping on Saturday, but they were out of stock.  Hopefully I'll get it in the next day or two.

As for my goals, I almost made all my workouts, but then I postponed yesterday's long run.  I did bike and swim instead though, so I don't feel too bad about it.

It was really really cold yesterday, and I didn't want to do another long run at the track.  Last week, I had no choice because there was no warmer weather on the horizon.  Now, we're due for a chinook, meaning the weather should go from it's current -28c (-18f) to a balmy 4c (39f) or so.  I can't say how glad I am.  The cold weather has been making me nutty.  I know there's more coming this winter, but at least we get a bit of a break.

So, I have somebody watching my kids tomorrow afternoon, and I'll get my long run in then.  Way better then risking frostbite, and way more interesting then running at the track.

Okay, goals for this week: To start doing some core work.  I must admit, I don't enjoy core work.  I am willing to concede that it's a good idea though.  Does anyone have a specific plan they follow for core work?

Got a short but productive workout today.  1/2 hr on the treadmill and 15 hard minutes on the spin cycle.  Started week 2 of the couch to 5k type thing I'm doing and it felt pretty good.  Still have the pain in the upper shin/lower knee but it's bearable.

weight-227.

Goals- 5 workouts this week and keeping the diet in check.

Hope to be 200-205 to start the season in may.

Got in a 54 mile long solo ride this morning.  Trying as much as possible to simulate the HIM portion of the bike.  Luckily I think I only caught about 4 red lights.  Averaged just under 19 mph if you take out the red lights...18.7 overall.

I felt really good considering I had 3 longish workouts on Fri/Sat/Sun.  I did fade towards the last 10 miles or so as I wasn't getting in enough calories.  I'm trying to use up the last of these shot bloks I ordered this past summer.  They expired in October, so they're a bit sticky and hard to squeeze out of the wrapper.  I planned to take in about 600 calories...I think I only actually got in 300...maybe less.

I think I'm going to have to go back to gels and start using my flask I bought recently for solo rides and racing.  During group rides, I'm usually off in front, so I have time to struggle with the shot bloks as I wait at regrouping points.  Save those sticky shot bloks for running.

Weighed in this morning at 196.1.  Down about a half a pound.  Right on schedule.

My goal for this week is going to be enjoy my swim workouts.  I find myself sort of annoyed to be back in the pool and without my swim partner, I have a tough time getting the quality workout in.

Hope everyone's weekend was great.

Wow that really is cold Deb!  I just got back from a quick 30 min run in 12 degrees F.  My cheeks feel a little tender even at that temp.

Weighed in at 211 down 3lbs from last Monday.

Goals for this week is to continue feeling better as I had bronchitis last week.  Seems I have spent more time sick than not lately.  My Doc took blood and found I was seriously deficient on Vit D.  So I am on a 16 week course to treat that.  She thinks that could be playing a part of my frequent infections.

In addition I want to get all three planned swim sessions in.  I have yet to do that since I started this plan.

Got my short(28 Min) run in today with some strides sprinkled in.  Felt pretty good and my pace was below 11:00 which lately is pretty fast.   It was stinking cold out though, only 10 degrees when I did my rum.  Brrrr!

Man I thought it was cold in Syracuse but that is brutal.  I don't blame you for putting it off a day.  It is supposed to warm up here a bit, will get above freezing for a couple days.  They are calling for Ice Storms though so I won't be taking the bike of the trainer.

Awesome Ride!!
I am always amazed at the paces people can maintain for that distance.  Nicely done.

I've yet to bike that far, but I will have to come July when I do my first HIM.  I did a couple rides in the fall in the 36 - 38 mile range, but will need to build up my base some more still.  Way too cold for much riding outside in Syracuse so I am planning on shorter trainer sessions till March.

Weighed in at 189lbs this morning.  After my mother-in-law's birthday dinner this weekend, I am very happy with being under 190   The goal for this week is to get at least 4 workouts in, and drop down to 187 for Monday morning.  I think I'll use my supper breaks for tredmill running, to get the most out of them, and try to get in a few early morning spins.  We have another birthday to go to on Saturday night, so I need to burn a few extra calories before then...

It gets better with training.

I took a look back at my logs from last year.  About 7 months ago I did a very similar ride...which happened to be my first solo ride over 40 miles.  I averaged 16.2 mph.  Very pleased with my progress thus far.

Hey Deb, just got back from a family ski weekend in Lake Placid.  -16oF at the base this morning.  I cannot believe I still have a face after being out in those temps.  It is amazing that you manage to train as well as you do with such extreme weather.  Keep up the great work.

Today's Weight:  138.7 lb (down 1.3 lbs)

This Week's Training Goal:  Three kick-butt trainer workouts, maintain last week's swim volume, add ST & walking

As an aside, it is a miracle I'm down a pound after sampling the fine libations at Lake Placid Brewery--love the Ubu & the IPA.  Thank goodness I discovered cross-country skiing on this trip.  What an absolute blast.  Will definitely do again.

I had an okay training week last week.  Started off abit slow, but picked up towards the end.  For this week, I'd like to cover ~4000 yards swimming, 80 miles on the bike trainer and 18 to 20 miles running.

Starting this past week, I am trying to ween myself into doing a long bike and a long run on saturday and sunday respectively, then resting Monday.   Want to make sure I increase my distances slowly in prep for Tinman HIM in June.  Right now, I am hovering around 1:30 to 2:00 hrs (27 to 37 mi roughly) on the trainer for my long bike ride and ~8 to 10 miles for my long run (some outside, but mostly on the treadmill because of cold temps..).   I'd like to be at 3+ hrs for the long bike and 12 to 15 miles for the long run by the end March so I can start working on quality and speed in April and May.  Should be doable, I think / hope.....

had a great run tonight,

did a 2 mile warm up, met up with a friend and we did 5mi @ 6:20 pace, and then an easy 2 mile cool down.

wend out a little while ago to run to the corner store and found it has started snowing, with another inch or so already on the ground. no idea where that came from...

So I woke up to some ugly weather in the Philly area.  Today is a planned off day but I may jump on the trainer tonight for a quick spin.  I had a really good run last night--felt good and I pushed out a good 40 minute effort!

Newbz,  sounds like an awesome run.  For my speedwork, I basically do about a 10 minute warmup and then intervals at about 6:00 pace, but that's only been for 30s at a time so far.  I can't imagine running 5 miles at that pace.  These guys that run boston in just over 5 min miles is amazing.

PS....who is that in your avatar?  Looks nothing like you....

Dagwoodz - 2011-01-17 3:28 AM Well, after switching shifts, mandatory functions to prep for re-deployment and coming down with a nasty case of the crud..(102* temps, fever dreams, aches, the whole 9 yards), finally felt well enough to get out and go on a quick run.  Mainly just wanted to get a couple of miles in and try and clear the crap that is in my lungs out.  The run felt real good though.   Hopefully I can do the same tomorrow.

I hope that you are feeling better by the time that you read this.

Complete all of my workouts, including the optional swims.

For the next few weeks the focus will be on my long run and to prepare for next month's marathon.

Weighed in at 222, down 3 pounds.  I have no idea how that happened, but I'm not complaining.

Got a good swim in this morning.  My last few swims I have been getting tired very early in the swims.  I realized today that I had started kicking a lot more than I had in the past.  Slowed my kick down and was back to normal.  Glad it was something this easy as it had my confused for a while.

Trainer ride, stretching and core training sometime later in the day.
