Subject: RE: Ghoulie work it out, take it off, write it down challenge!Gouhlies, I need some advice. I am 17 weeks out from Vineman half ironman. I have been running about 3 miles, one to two times/week. I have been on my bike twice this year (as in twice since January 1st). I have not swum since my accident in January, and while I may be able to start doing some breaststroke this weekend, I will not likely be doing freestyle for at least a few more weeks, maybe a month. I need to start making some hard decisions about whether or not to do the half ironman. I am currently about #115 on the waitlist. It is definitely moving faster now, about 5 to 10 spots per day. I need to decide before I get the email that my name is up for registration, which I anticipate could happen anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks from now. Currently I haveonly paid the $25 waitlist fee, so I'm not out any large amount of money if i decide not to do it. My coach/friend is saying I shouldn't try to do the race. I have been feeling iffy about it from the beginning, I honestly wasn't planning on doing a half this year, but 3 of my friends and workout buddies are doing this race, so I jumped on the bandwagon. What better place to be than in California, surrounded by vineyards and friends, right? I have been mulling it over, and just when I decide, and tell someone I'm going to do it, or not going to do it, I start doubting myself. My hubby and parents don't think I should do it, but will support meif I decide to do it. I haven't even done anything more than a sprint before. So, I have a dilemma. Do I do everything in my power to get ready, knowing that in the past when I do that, I end up injured, or do I sit back and say no, and spend the summer doing shorter races, closer to home, and hopefully join my friends at a half in the next year or two? |
