Have the boulder 5430 on Sunday and I've run a total of 6 miles and rode 1 hour since the escape. Travel can get old, but at least I get a week home before traveling again. Have a great race! I think that balancing your life (work, family, fun etc) with racing is one of the most challenging parts. I am sure you will do great, the escape wasn't THAT long ago I agree, you'll have carry over fitness from such a hard effort at Alcatraz. You'll do great. Best of luck -- and Manatee mojo! |

Veteran 287 Pueblo, CO | Subject: RE: Yanti and Lynn, Mentors of the Manatee Melee: FULL Well...my butt was handed to me on the swim after I somehow ended up in the front middle at the start. It was actually harder than Alcatraz due to the altitude and my loss of acclimation with all the travel. Was almost halfway done before I got into a rhythm - and finished the 1/2 mile in 16 min ( a little slow). PR on bike at a little over 19mph, and surprise of surprises - PR on 5k run with 25:12. I was passed by about 12 guys in my ag and figured I would have real slow time (well - slower). However, I've not run a 5k that close to sub 25 EVER! As good as it was, I did not perform to the top of my abilities and looking forward to crushing the next one (peak to peak Olympic in July). Thanks to all for words of encouragement. |

Bummer - re-looked at the offical times (instead of the posting at the finish line) and when I'm able to line-up my results better, I got at 29:35. That was what I expected based on how I though I paced / performed. Thanks for all the congrats regardless!!! I'm going to get that sub-25 5k this year. |

Veteran 285 Austin | Subject: RE: Yanti and Lynn, Mentors of the Manatee Melee: FULL Well, I think I've almost talked myself into signing up for another tri in Oct. I originally had no intreated in training through the summer, and I may easily regret this as we have already had 14 record breaking days this year - and Summer hasn't offically arrived! I haven't yet registered, but I did start a 16 week training plan today. I'm planning to just do most of my training inside and I'll just see how it goes. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti and Lynn, Mentors of the Manatee Melee: FULL So in the interest of full disclosure ... I seem to have started training again, entirely by accident, I assure you; one had to cycle on the paradise island to get around, and of course I did tons of OWS among the glorious sea life, and ya gotta hike around, too. So I'm going to go ahead and do the Bali Triathlon this weekend (sprint version, same philosophy as last year when I did it coming off dengue fever ... wanna be top 10 out of the water and don't care after that). Two weeks later we've got the Bali Ocean Swim 5K. In late September I've been asked to lead a women's workshop on relationships (HA HA HA BWAAAAAH HAAAAAA) in Kuala Lumpur (CAN'T STOP LAUGHING) but seeing as it's a free trip out of the country I thought I'd do a tri. And wouldn't you know, there just happens to be one on the following weekend nearby ... So it's a half-iron plus, which is a LEETLE longer than I'd like (very tough course and conditions) ... but I'm going to go ahead and train for it, and if at any point along the way I'm getting worn down, need to pull back, realize how terrible an idea this is ... well, I'll pull back. It's a pretty laid back tri for long course so I can make a last-minute decision about whether or not to do it, anyway. Looks like I will have a racing season after all for the first time in three years ... You may all throw fruit at me. Preferably packaged in Pop-Tart form. |

Are you able to actually see in the water there - I'd love to do an OWS where you can acutally see something other than "green" during the swim. Jimbaran Bay where they have the Bali Tri, it depends on the day. Sometimes you get a wicked clear day there and seems you can see for kms. it's a pretty clear sand bottom (not seaweed or coral) so mostly it's schools of good eating fish there unfortunately sometimes jellyfish ... I don't think I got bitten last year, but I did the two years before. The place near here I OWS on Sundays--it's on a reef so there's gobsmacking gorgeous sea life of all kinds. [The place I've been training the last few weeks is a tiny island off the coast of Bali with some of the prettiest beaches, ocean, and snorkeling/diving in the world. I don't even have words to describe it--you are surrounded by so much sea life and beauty everywhere, literally surrounded, it's so dense ... and more often than not, a turtle will take you on a tour for your OWS. Just follow and paddle. ] Sanur, Bali's center of whorehouses and black magic, I've swum there a million times (used to live there and it's where my sis lives) but TODAY when I swam there--it was a completely different world. There were TONS of fish, eels, starfish, sea worms, cucumbers, urchins ... living coral ... I've never seen it like that before or that clear, EVER. I actually swam WITH eels, not just saw them. |
