Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED karen26.2 - 2012-04-19 11:22 AM Damn Karen. I hope you are ok. Remember this happened to me last September, but at high speed. I thought I was fine at the scene, until I got home. That night I couldn't move my neck. That turned into shoulder surgery and just got MRI results yesterday I have a bulging disc in my neck. Now MRI ordered for back. My entire body has not stopped aching since that accident. Of course, she had no insurance. My point is, pay attention to your body. You might be ok now, but tmrw might be a different story. Good luck. So after my nice early morning swim, I got t-boned by an old lady on my way to work. I'm so mad because I was sitting at a red light, it turned green, I proceeded to enter the intersection to make a left, and there is a car that clearly didn't stop at the light coming right towards me. Turned out to be an older lady, who clearly should not be out on the roads behind a wheel. She told the officer "I don't really know what happened, she came out so fast, I had a green". WTH?!?!?!?! I was at a dead stop, starting to move into an intersection, how did I come out so fast??? I wanted to strangle her. I of course stated my side, but unfortunately no body stopped to be a witness. ARRRRR!!!! The officer told me he believed me, but he had to take our statements and would not be issuing any citations because we both said we had green. My poor car... |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED That sucks hope you're doing well. Last summer I got cut off by a Saab while on the bike when he came out of a blind driveway obscured by hedges and trees doing 30 and I had to lay it down to not hit him. Bike was fine minus a frayed back of my seat and some brazes on my right gear lever. A week later a deer landed in the center of my hood at 5AM when I was driving to meet a group for a ride. Deer was fine and my car had only $1300 in damage. I choose to believe I dodged two bullets that could have been much worse if I had been a second ahead of where I was in both cases. Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Yep, you got it, I actually use 3-4 screens, 1 is 4 (time, distance, pace & HR), 2 (avg pace, avg HR), 2 (pace & HR for larger font), 1 time (cuz I can't never find it anywhere else to determine how close I am to race time)
I just learned today to used the laps on the indoor track since it doesn't pick up. That is kinda cool. So now Kelly has the info for the 1/2 miles and the full miles in 1 workout without constantly resetting. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Its kinda funny all my friends are always asking me to set up their watches and get them hooked up to the computer. So I do someone's watch almost every run. The 305, 310 and 910 and I assume the 610 all work the same way, so pretty easy to find stuff.
Also, if you are ever can't find and answer, send Garmin a note, they are pretty quick to respond to just about anything. |

I'm just angry she is saying she had a green light. But I'm ok. Feels like a broken mile. It's amazing how much your form recovers with just 5 deep breaths. Felt myself getting stronger the farther I swam. Good focus. Good rotation, early catch and long powerful strokes. Passed through the squad twice. Number two wasn't paying attention when I escaped off the front. Ha ha ha escape the asylum. Nice to be really well rested before a hard workout. I'm probably going to have to move over a lane but I like my squad mates, not so much the squad 1 lane over. Not ready to jump over two lanes. But that is a goal. The set is called a ladder. Hip drafting is the position you should be in when trying to draft in the swim. You want to be just behind the person's hip (so off a little to one side) rather than directly on top of their feet. |

My friend refused to go to the hospital after an accident and then like rizer some issues showed up the next day and the the lawyers got involved and were stating the fact they couldn't verify that it happened at the accident so the "cause" driver got off from paying the medical bills. If I was a second earlier it would have come through my window. A second later it goes under the car and probably dies and either way the car is totaled and I'm injured. It literally landed on top of the hood and bounced off landing on the grass across the street not the pavement. I got out and it was gone and there was no blood on the ground. I saw it's eyes as it left the ground from behind some brush and ya I was freaked out. I don't blame you for being mad and agree on seeing a lawyer. |

We have 2 house showings today, and then a couple is coming in for a second showing on Saturday. Apparently they are interested in putting in an offer. If we do get an offer, my husband and I are hitting the town and getting our drink on. This is coming from someone who rarely drinks anymore The last 2 months of my life have been extremely stressful with the house, the kids, and the training. I'll be happy to put an end to it all and have a new house to call home. Keep your fingers crossed for me, please! Edited by jarvy01 2012-04-20 6:27 AM |

I'm interested in cadence questions too. I'm naturally a grinder, but have been trying to keep my cadence up as of late. |

Shoukd I be trying to maintain a certain #rpm? I'm not gettomg a clear answer online. Thx! I'll add I dont have a power meter, so is there some formula to convert cadence, speed, etc to estimate power? Like Scott, I too am a grinder but trying to increase my cadence. It seems to me I've read mid 80's is a good cadence, but not sure it's a one size fits all type of measurement. As far as estimating power, I can higly recommend TrainerRoad. There is a really good thread (or two) on here about TrainerRoad but you can also go to their website and see the demo and read up. It works with your trainer (you tell the program what type of trainer you have) and estimates a virtual power number for you based on your speed and the power curve for that specific trainer. I'm a huge fan of TrainerRoad, they should make me an ambassador. Ha! Anyway, you have to have a ANT+ stick and a speed cadence sensor to be able to make it work. The website goes into all that. I just pick a ride from their library, or do a "free" ride, sync up HR & speed cadence sensor, and off I go. My laptop screen displays your HR, cadence, virtual power, and had a graph showing this data. It's very cool, and worth checking out. |

Expert 1481 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED 3 hour ride outside. I started just after 6AM because the temp was supposed to be 58 degrees. They were off by about ten degrees. I figured screwed it I'd rather be cold for a short while than hot later. I froze for about the first two hours and then the wind picked up earlier than it was supposed to and I fought a head wind of 20MPH just about the entire way back. Overall it was nice out and in spite of being cold I had a good ride and enjoyed myself. I did some big hills about half way into the ride and there were six of them one after another. I was really happy with how consistent I was with them and how I didn't blow my legs out for the rest of the ride and controlled my heart rate not letting it spike high. My high HR was 159 and last year I would have hit in the 170's on all of them plus the big hill at the end of the ride to get back to my house. |

Shoukd I be trying to maintain a certain #rpm? I'm not gettomg a clear answer online. Thx! I'll add I dont have a power meter, so is there some formula to convert cadence, speed, etc to estimate power? "Optimal" cadence is usually seen to be around 90 rpm for both the bike and run, although it can vary from individual to individual (personally I think anything between 85 and 95 is fine). If your lower than about 85 you're liking pushing to hard and going to fry your legs for the bike (note -- doing low cadence work to improve bike strength in training is an entirely different matter). Go higher than 95 rpm and you're probably not putting enough power into the pedals. With regard to power -- the question is why do you want to estimate it? Generally you would use power as a training metric but it only works if its consistent. Using something other than a power meter is going to result in inconsistent power "readings" so its not going to be super useful. |
