MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Another 2 miles for me today. Also did 15 minutes on the bike trainer and some weights. Five miles to go and then I'll be at 100%. I'm thrilled. Last month I would never have said I would run this many miles. Next run challenge, wonder what we will all be setting as our goals. |

Veteran 288 Owings, MD | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread 3.55 mi tonight after work. Long warmup walk with husband, then did run/walk intervals. So I've met my 35 mile goal, because that makes 40.87 miles for me! That's about twice what I did last month! Need to decide how much I can up my goal to. Having some issues with son right now, which might derail my running, so we'll see in a day or so what I can do. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Woot short run tonight... Mile 1 9:12 min Mile 2 8:34 min and then cool down and junk. 34 seconds off my 2 mile 6 weeks ago and I probably could have done the first mile a lot faster without burning out. It is really odd that a 2 mile run is very short now a days, this is truely an odd sport messes with your perspective. I tell my bro in law that I went for a 34 mile bike ride and then ran a few miles and he looks at me like I'm nuts, crew a 2nd head or something. Boy imagine if I were doing real Tri workouts like the non-newbs. Anyway food time. I'll read what I missed later. |

Veteran 151 West Allis | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread i definitely can't resist the caramel drumsticks either. 2.1 miles for me tonight, damn it was cold, but I did one of the fastest times I've ever done, just over 15 mins per mile. Walked the first 0.25 mile and then alternated a block run/block walk, and it felt pretty dang good. I might go for another 2 mile leisurely walk tonight, since I worked so long and slept all day today, and then tomorrow I should be at 100% too |

Veteran 151 West Allis | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread mission.....accomplished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mapped out a 4.5 mile jaunt and went for it. Jogged a bit for the first couple miles, but after that it was all about saving the legs to make sure I could finish. Towards the end I was really hurting, but I thought back to all the miles I've done, and that I've never gone this far in a month ever, and just kept pushing myself all the way to the finish. I posted it under Monday's miles since with my weird sleep schedule, it's still Monday to me. My goal for the last 8 days of the month is just to shoot for 12 more miles, so then I can say I averaged 2 miles per day Plus I need to get a swim or two in. Still trying to figure out what my role in the November challenge will be. It's gonna be swimming I do believe. |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Steve, great news on the run. good job at increasing your speed. And if you give into that drumstick, just do another mile or two tomorrow to make up for it. You have done fantastic so far. Jason, awesome job on reaching your goal and doing the run/walks. Keep this up and your friends won't be able to recognize you. I guess it really was a blessing in disguise when your car broke down. Lyssa, you have done a super job inspiring everyone this past month. Reach around and give yourself a huge pat on the back. |

I'm setting up the challenge - but I don't know what my own goal is going to be yet! I really wanted it to be swimming, but my shoulder is killing me. And December will be a Swim Challenge. (You may want to keep that in mind.) At this point, my goal should be to do a billion shoulder exercises. *sigh* But I may choose biking. Or maybe kick drills (if I can't swim, at least I'd still be able to get in the water that way!) So, no. I'm not sure yet what goal I'll choose. Dee |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread i was planning on doing a running challenge again, maybe throw in some biking (because i detest it) to push myself. and i know i'll run. but i'm not sure what to post as a running goal. do i throw on 10 miles because i know i can do it? or do i double my goal, and really challenge myself? i just don't know yet. still thinking. i just found out that husband can get a discounted membership to a health club (40 miles away) that has a pool, he said maybe it could be my Christmas present. a membership for a year, so i can swim in the off season. i don't know if i should or not though. it's pretty far away, i really wouldnt be able to swim there but maybe once a week or so. and once the weather warms up again, i'll have the lake to swim in. hmmmm life is full of weird decisions lately |

Veteran 228 Greenbelt, MD | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Heya folks...just popping in to say hi since I can't keep up with all the posts...Danged COJ got me addicted to this stupid online puzzle thing and it's sucking my online time like mad. Anyway, happy to say my calf feels okay. I might even try a little running on Thursday (today looks like an inside day thanks to predicted thunderstorms and tomorrow I'm playing airport shuttle for my best friend so no running time...just some more inside stuff or a walk at lunch). I planned out my workouts for the rest of the month and should come in about 5 miles over my goal so I should be good. Even gives me a little cushion. Oh and for the Appalachian Trail mini-discussion...one of my life goals is to thru hike it. Unfortunately since I'm single and need to stay employed, I'll probably have to wait until I'm ancient to do it. In the meantime I've finished all of Maryland (really not that far), WV (all 10 or so miles of it...ha ha), and a good chunk of northern Virginia. And I've actually done all that 2 times since I have to park, hike in, and then hike back out (I go alone, much to my mother's horror). Haven't been in 2 years though (could never trust my car to go that far regularly, but just bought a new car in the spring so could handle it now). It's a great way to just be by yourself and enjoy nature. And running into the thru hikers up here is a blast...they are so backcountry by the time they've gone nearly halfway. But they have such cool stories and love to chat about their time. Okay, enough of that obsession. You guys are doing so great. How cool that a few of you are even done! We can't lose...my legs look like rings on the Michelin Man! Trust me you don't want to see that. Edited by AmbulanceDriver 2007-10-23 11:45 AM |

Veteran 131 Tampa, Florida | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread So I'm almost done... 6 and change to go. I haven't been spending much time here lately, been stressing and obsessing over my decision to compete in my first race this weekend. I don't think I'm ready, but at this point I don't have a choice. I'm just going to go for it. The local board people are so cool and supportive. I can't wait to meet them. Haven't decided whether to train tonight or take the day off. I really noticed my lack of pool time last night. Then run challenge has been taking up most of my training time so I felt like I was struggling although my time doesn't seem to reflect a struggling pace.... I think tonight I'm going to do 1000m swim and 2 mile run, then tomorrow a brick and that's it until Sunday's race. Anybody have any advice about whether to train hard the next couple days or should I just take it easy? Since I just got the bike last week, I'm really feeling unprepared for the bike portion. I don't know why, but for some reason I thought the ride would be the easiest leg. At least I can quit worrying about the run! Congrats to everybody who already met and or exceeded their goals! Those of you still on track to meet your goals, good job and keep it up! |

Master 2339 somewhere over the rainbow | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread jessica, i would DEFINATELY take it easy for a few days if you're racing on sunday! you're endurance will be WAY up if you rest up a bit, you'll really notice a difference. maybe do an easy jog one day, or a REAL easy bike ride, but i'd say take it really easy until after the race. i'm so excited to hear how it goes too!! definately post here (as well as a rr) so we can see how you did! good luck |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread All the info on the boards say ... take it very very easy the week before a Tri. You will not build up any more endurance in anything in 4 days, but you can leave yourself burnt for the race. Nothing sucks more than being toast in the first couple miles and knowing you have forever to go. If you go in fresh it will cary you quite a ways. The other week when I was over doing it a 5 mile bike ride was harder than the 34 mile bike, 2 mile run I did last weekend after a day off. And oh, by the way, I am trying to squeek in an end of the season sprint tri on 12/9 in Hemmit, CA. It would be my first tri. I didn't think I was going to make it, but I ended up having a training going on the Thursday and Friday before the Tri, so I get to travel down and back covered on the buisiness dime and don't even have to burn any vacation days (the tri is 700 miles away). Now I just have to coinvince my boss to let me take my car instead of the company car so I can fit my bike in it. I need to do some more bricks next week. A run to bike brick is cake, but the bike to run brick left me out of gas last time. I did 22 miles bike then ran out of endurance after a 2 mile run... was trying to make it to 5k. Oh well back to work. |

Expert 973 Berkeley, Calif. | Subject: RE: Poison Apples Team Thread Jessica! Good luck with the race! I'm in no position to offer advice, but from everything I've read at BT I'd say you should definitely take it easy this week. Maybe go out on the bike a couple of times for easy rides, since it's new and you're still getting the feel of it, but don't push yourself at all. AmbulanceDriver - 2007-10-23 9:43 AM Oh and for the Appalachian Trail mini-discussion...one of my life goals is to thru hike it. Unfortunately since I'm single and need to stay employed, I'll probably have to wait until I'm ancient to do it. That's so neat! One of my goals in life is similar -- I want to do the John Muir Trail here in California. I've done about half of it in pieces (and like you -- yeah, done it twice, since you have to hike in then out), but I would love to do it all in one go some day. But yes, single and employed, who has the time? |

So don't overdo it the next few days. You have the first race jitters. Once you get going, just let your adrenelin take control and you will do fine. Your goal is to finish the race and set a time for you to then want to beat in your next race. Take your time and enjoy the experience. You will have FUN! |
