What is it about church that makes 4 adults revert to their 10, 8, 6, 4 year old selves the minute we walk through the door? Not so sure, but that is definitely what happens when we get there, especially for the very serious holiday services...

Ha! You are spaced out exactly like me and my three brothers! I can't explain the reversion, though. It is one of the many mysteries of church.

Have fun this weekend, everyone! I woke up this morning expecting rain for the next three days . . . but looked outside and saw blue skies through the clouds. Light sunshowers this morning and during the run all of the clouds left and there's nothing but blue. What a great start to a day!

I made a post over in the equipment forum about this, but want to get y'alls thoughts as well -- bonehead move: my trainers have 450 miles on them and I have 9 days until I run a marathon. Brooks has discontinued the Glycerin 5, my baby, and redesigned the line for the new Glycerin 6, which is slimmer throughout and heavier than the original. So, yesterday I went out and tried on a few pairs of new trainers, and bought some asics that seem to fit well.

Whats your experience with changing shoes, and break in times?

your monring started nicer then mine lol, it is bloody cold out (41 f) I decided to go for a bike ride anyhow. It took 15 minutes before I could feel my fingers again once I got back home. I even stopped half way to warm my fingers at a shopping store for 5 minutes.
I bought my last pair of shoes two week before my race and they were fine.
Have a good weekend all.

PS. when you guys race (half/full marathon distance) what is your average heart rate for the race? Just wounding if mine is too high when I race. My last race it was at 92% for the first 20K.

Shoes?  I break them in really quickly.  Like maybe three miles.  Of course, I love the way new shoes feel more than really broken in ones.

As for hear rate during a half marathon?  I couldn't tell you as I don't wear a HRM.  I just know my paces and go off that.

Just finished my first full century bike ride this morning.  Now... it's off to a 5k.  There will be a large quantity of food consumed tonight.

RE: shoes. The way shoes are built these days (i.e., softer, cushioned), most of my shoes have pretty much no break in period. I've only had one pair of shoes recently that didn't break in rapidly, but they actually never broke in and continued to hurt my feet so I tossed them (I wear them walking around, etc.).

I just got some Asics Trainers (they have a longer name but it escapes me). They are nice. Very light, moderate stability, and they are greenish so I got that going for me.

P.S.-you have a PM.

Hey Nathan,

I PM'd you about this but I don't train by heartrate. I tried it for a couple of weeks but couldn't get into it. I plan to start again after this marathon but that's neither here nor there.

Chris does and hopefully he can chime in on your question. Off the bat, though, I think 92% seems high for a longer distance race.

First time with the 100 miles.  Did the "metric century", or 62 miles in this event last year.

Pretty much a shameless bump.

I am going to look at putting clip-on aerobars on my bike on Friday, though. I finally found a store that has a wide selection, and I really liked their customer service. They're going to let me try on as many as I want on the trainer before I buy.
I also got my boyfriend pretty hooked on tris; he is going to be looking at their bikes for sale while I am there (hooray tax returns...wish I got those!). They have a decent selection of nice used bikes.
Yesterday I met a girl on campus who is training for IM Switzerland. Was awesome to finally meet another Terp who is seriously into training...although she is clearly wayy over my level, it will be nice to swap information and what not.
I also officially start my Olympic training plan today. Eee.
Paul- how long til Boston? I propose that the mentor group fly up and form a personal cheering squad. Is anyone going to watch you? Wifey?
Candace- figure out your next race?

Have a good training week everyone!

Boston is one week from yesterday. If things go according to plan I should be finished by this time next week .

My wife is going and my parents, who are retired, are going to meet us there. I am meeting up with Chris (MAZ) and his family for the pre-race dinner party. He is running as well.

The women's marathon olympic trials are the Sunday before so they should be pretty interesting as well. I may enter that as well.

Thanks for all the well wishes! I'm bib #4866 -- the weather looks pretty good so far, I've got a friend in the BC pep band playing at the top of Heartbreak Hill, and I've been gorging myself this week on carbs. If I'm not five pounds heavier by Monday, I might just be able to PR!

Yep, 10k on Sunday. I signed up for it at the end of March, thinking the end of April was in a long time and I'd definitely be ready...
I'm just trying not to walk It's a pretty hilly course and I haven't run more than 4 miles in a looong time. I'll just think about you and Chris and how easy this is in comparison to your marathon

Good Luck in Boston guys! I just saw a NOVA special about some regular folks who ran the Boston marathon. It was very inspiring. I learned a bit about the course. Don't go too fast on the beginning downhill.

Kerry have fun at your 10K!

I haven't decided what to do next as far as races. I but I did decide I am only doing the 10K for a local race in May (forget the 1/2 it is too long). I am also going to do a local Olympic tri this weekend (I think - not 100% yet).

I guess after you run a HIM you can just decide to do an OLY on a whim, eh? Have a great race -- i can't wait until I have that kind of fitness across all three sports.

And Grace -- have fun on the 10K! I'm actually hoping it won't be too hot for everyone racing this weekend, what with the turn in th weather.

Just remember to have a friend put your favorite beverage of choice on ice at the end; that should be enough to keep your legs moving!
