Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I had an awesome OWS after work tonight. I love swimming in the lake and not having to reverse directions every 20 yds. My times are faster, I feel like I get a better workout and....... no chlorine. Winter is going to suck! |

Dude...Remember there are several triathlete's in this world that shave there legs... I know what you are talking about (sadly enough).... Speaking of ladies... What happen to the rest of the women in our group!! Sigh.... Who needs more than Tracy but really what has happened to all the other ladies. On a more serious note be careful with that zit Steve. You never know when it might pop. If you're in the middle of a race it could choke or blind you depending on how fast you're going and how big it grows. Oh and as my daughter would say "suck it up buttercup" Hey Matt I'm with you on the swimming. You just get into a good rhythm and you have to stop and turn. NO stopping in the open water. (Then again no end of the pool to grab if you get tired either.) Edited by Redknight 2008-07-24 6:31 AM |

Champion 9060 Charlottesville, Virginia | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Hagerstown Sprint Tri on Sunday for me + Wife's family reunion (yay....). 300M Swim, 11.5Mi Ride, 3.1Mi Run for the tri, I plan on seeing how fast I can go with this one. The tri I have the following weekend I decided I am just going to take it easy and make it a point to work on my weaknesses instead of just trying to go fast. It will also be my first OWS, thanks all for your tips. I finally figured out not to try to go from my head looking right at the bottom of the pool to sticking out of the water to sight. On my 6th stroke I look up but under water, then take my head out on the stroke to sight. Not sure if that makes any sense but it seemed to require almost no energy and not much stroke interruption or body sinking to do it this way.

Tony, First OWS, I know what those jitters are all about. You'll do great. It is actually very fun. Have a great race. Edited by tahrens 2008-07-24 8:28 AM |

Have a great race. It is a lot of fun and quite an adrenaline rush - I think the OWS could be the most addicting part of triathlon. As a veteran (see title under avatar for reference) of one race w/ OWS I'd say the most important thing is to just stay calm in the water and remember 1. That you've trained and are prepared 2. that your wetsuit floats 3. That fat guy you saw on the beach and thought "no way", yeah - he's swimming too, and if he can do it so can you. (Ok, that last one was just my way of telling myself to HTFU and swim). The swim will be over before you know it. |

I always start to feel this way around this time! Maybe it's the pressure, but I am ready to get back out and start hiking, and other things, but then I always sign myself up for something again! I think a year in between is nice! |

If it makes you feel any better, I think I need new running shoes. The last two times I've been out, I have pain running from my pinkie toe to the arch on the bottom of my left foot. Let's be miserable together. Edited by tahrens 2008-07-24 11:47 AM |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL In honor of being a girl, I have made my bike pretty too. Everyone, meet my Nimbus 2000! Bonus Points if you get the reference of her name. (I know she is not as sexy as your traditional time trial bike, but she serves me very well) By the way, I uploaded the picture proofs from my last race back on my race report. Sadly, there is no seaweed monster, but the photos are not too bad. In one of them I actually look like I am doing a pretty good running imitation. One piece's are great as long as you don't have to worry about the bathroom visits... It is kind of a pain to go to the restroom... There are plenty of good 2 piece tri suits out there! I think it looks fine. White is the best color for heat, but I understand.... The key is to look good out there! My moto.... If you can't race good at least look good! |

Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I raced in a sleevless NF tech shirt because I'm not a fan of the one piece and didn't want to risk a DQ if I wore one of those short tri tops - I'm sure they would've thought I had a pizza dough floatie around my mid-section (ironically, that's probably how I got it). This is the only pic I have available online - I know none of this really helps you much, but I have to keep the post count close. |
