Hi All!

Sorry I haven't check in for awhile, this first week of the new year at work has been hella busy. I did not get to the gym once, but managed to hit the dreaded mill and trainer at home each day- and am grateful for it as they have been wonderful stress reducers. It is SO COLD I cannot even imagine going swimming.

I need to pick up some real winter running gear - I know what bottoms I want but cant figure out what top/jacket to get. I don't want anything that is swishy/makes noise...I also need more socks....

I have been doing VERY well with clean eating. I stopped my splenda consumption - not too hard, as I was only doing it once a day in the am with my coffee- and have been loading in fruits and veggies pretty well every day. I need to get more ezekiel bread, soon - its been so cold I slacked on picking some up and have been cheating with regular bread, ugh!

Good job on the eating Meghan. I have been real good this week. Especially since I got on the scale...post holiday.

As far as running clothes go I wear a wicking long sleeve shirt or turtle neck and one of my heavier biking jackets. If its real cold I might wear a tri top rather than a sports bra for extra layers.I like my pearl izuma winter jacket  because I can put a water bottle in the back pockets. I always wear a headband and/or a cap ( Nike makes one for pony tails). I have cheap $1 gloves in a multitude of colors. I wear them to start but usually take them off after the first mile ( I use them for my nose as needed)If I loose one No big deal( I stuff them in my coat sleeves). I wear polyproplyne sock liners with my regular running socks. I am always warm. Hope this helps. PM me if you have any questions.

Mojo11 - 2010-01-09 2:08 PM Just got home from the 2nd of two soccer games today with my 6 yr old.  It was 35 and raining for the first game at 9am and freezing rain and snow flurries for the 1pm game - wondering if I still live in FL???  Time for an afternoon nap while my 3 yr old is doing the same!!

Is this supposed to "toughen up" the kids?  I would have skipped the game - not worth it in those conditions for kids that young.

It has nothing to do with trying to "toughen up" the kids.  It was a light rain and my son is the type that jumps in our pool when I wont go near it in Dec/January.  He wanted to play and would have been very discouraged if I kept him home.  He had on 2 sets of thermal underwear, full rain gear with his jersey over the jacket, 2 pair of socks, gloves and a wool cap and never complained of being cold.  The kids had a blast and won the game - followed by a hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookie celebration.  A good time in my book - better than skipping the game and sitting in the house.

Hello peeps!

I have returned to cyber space to torment you with my inane chatter.......

Had a stressful series of thingies to deal with but things have settled down. At a bit of a crossroads with my job....... know I am burnt out and need a change but at the same time realize that for my life right now this crazy schedule works for my family . And they have to come first. Always.

Whats everyone up to today? I have the morbid desire to go for a ride OUTSIDE!. Its supposed to warm up to -7C this afternoon. Probably will feel like - 15C with the windchill though. Still.........I want to try going for a ride. The roads are dry and clean and my old road bike is lubed up and waiting for me. I can always turn around and come back if its intolerable right??

Put on the Lobster Gloves and hit it!!  Shannon and I started the day with a little yoga and coffee while waiting for it to warm up some.  Dropped the kids off at her parents at 9:15 and ran 3 miles  together and I did an additional 2 solo.  You think I dont like the cold - you should have seen my wife!!  She normally wont run outside unless its above 50 degrees.
Stopped at mile 2.5 to get a drink of water from the fountain and it was frozen - still wondering if this is FL??  Had fun though - maybe going to a movie at 12:30 and then another soccer game at 3:30
Have a good day all-

Hey all -

If you guys can suck it up and get out in the cold weather, I guess I can too...although my blood is a little thinner since we moved south. I'm heading out for a run after lunch while Elder Monkey is at soccer this afternoon. Soccer = indoor, me running = outdoor. Brrrrrrr. 27F here right now.

Love the dog pics, and the beautiful view from Natalie's.  Is that your back yard?

I was back on the snow board last night, but kept it on the ground.  Nice little adult party to help raise money for the ski hill.  As always there was lots of good food, drink, music, and company.  And its also wonderful to have the place to ourselves without 100's of kids all over the place.

I signed up for an indoor tri on Feb. 14th.  I have some work to do to get ready.  15 minutes for each event.  I took 4th last year, and am hoping to finish top 2.  Last year was the the first year so I'm sure the field will expand this time around.

Well I went for my sub zero ride and it was fine!!! It was -19C......-2F.......with the windchill. But I was not too cold. When i was riding into the wind the space around my glasses was a bit cold. Next time I will be a total geek and wear ski goggles.

I thought you said the roads were clear!?!?  Maybe for the frozen tundra of Canada it is???  I don't see studded bike tires but there is definitely a stud on the bike!  AWESOME!!

OK to clarify: they never bother to plow my street very well since I live on a crescent. At the end of my street I ventured out onto rural roads which were bone dry and clear.  Just like summer!! Well, except for the hundred layers I was wearing.
