sigh, such a boy... ALL bikes need a name so you can whisper encouragement or swear at them and they know who you are talking to. You will have to ride him/her for a bit before you will get the name.

Yes, this is an important part of the culture. Mine are named Streak, Jack, Taz and Gobbie.

Mine are Big Red the roadie, Stumpy (love/hate relationship with mtn biking) and Beautiful Blue Betty.

BIG RED, STUMPY and BB BETTY toppage!

My motorcycle is Sonny, she's pretty and yellow. My tri bike is Lola, that's what she told me her name was.

Subject: early morning fuel
silly question for you early morning masochists: daughter & i were considering taking a stab at this early morning running thing - she asked if we should eat breakfast first, and i said i didn't know - so do you? for a short run (2-3 miles or less), will you have enough fuel to just go after getting up, or do you get up an hour or so early just to eat & let it digest a little bit? we like our morning sleep so want to now just how much earlier we need to get up.

thanks!

2-3 miles just go, I did 5 in the morning with no breakfast training for my half with no problem, your mileage may vary :-).  You should have plenty of energy from dinner (don't skip dinner).  The best thing about morning runs for me is re-fueling with chocolate milk when I return.  I have a new found love for it in my fourties because it is a good recovery drink.

For me, I need to wait an hour or more after eating even a light meal before I run and I'm not a morning person.

Yep, this ^ ^ ^ ^

Even my Sunday mornings when I've been going 13 I only have a light breakfast early and a Gu before I head out.

I am only going to be around a little bit tomorrow morning, then I'm out for the rest of the day. Not sure about Saturday yet.

So who is racing this weekend?

Morning folks!

No race for me this weekend. I am traveling to Raleigh, leaving tomorrow and coming back Sunday evening. I will be very scarce this weekend.

x3. I cannot tolerate anything in my stomach for AT LEAST a 1/2 hour before I run. For that distance you don't need to fuel up. Like he said, the chocolate milk is a nice reward for morning running.

This will be my first tri of the season! I have done a couple of sprint distance tris but have not done this race (Sullivan, Illinois).  Ryan is also going to be there (Gator Guy!).  It is sprint distance and has a reputation for the bike course being VERY windy.  Looks like this year there is a good chance for t-storms that day. Yuck...

My first race is sunday(sprint)  Getting crunch time, no saying "O i'm doing a triathlon in a few months"

TT race went ok last night, I was further in the back this time, got passed by alot of pace booty .  Havent seen the final times but I think this week with the wind i was around 19.6.

thanks for the good advice and quick replies...i got her up this morning, and she estimated that the whining that would ensue would derail our attempts to get her back on track (bonus points for good insight tho), so she opted for homework and chocolate bunny cereal in the morning, and running 1st thing after school. probably a wise choice...

have a swell day...!

That is a respectable time. PLUS pace booty!

Are you getting excited for your race?

The TT was about a 1mph slower time due to the wind from last week, o well, I would be flipping for joy if I could do that pace during my tri heheh.

Getting really nervous, weather is supposed to be real crappy as well now.  Only 3 days, will be hard to sleep the next few nights.

Im racing sat as well.  80% chance of thunderstorms....... Bummer!
What are the chances theyll cancel the swim and do a duo?  That would absolutely stink bc 90% of my training lately has been swim.

That really depends on the RD. They do their best to have the race, but some things are out of their control. If it is lightning it may be delayed or not go on at all. It would not be good to have people out on the course if it were lightning.
