CdA is so early in the season that I'd probably skip the half and focus on my training plan. I DO recommend doing an OWS or 2 in cold water though. Lake Coeur d'Alene is on the chilly side even with a wetsuit. |

Has anyone in the US who purchased this received their DVD? I ordered it in late September and I still haven't seen mine. Anyone else? Thanks. |

Time to get serious to be able to wake up next June ready to roll! |

I read your thread on your race accident last weekend and am glad you came out of such a serious crash well enough that you are anxious to get back at it. I hope you take enough time to make sure your head is right before starting training backmup. I plan to do the New Orleans 70.3 as a pre-CDA warmup. It is 4/17, which is maybe a bit early at 10 weeks out, but fits well with the Ironfit book plan I am using. It doesn't really match any of the course characteristics of CDA, but the bike course is supposed to be totally closed, it's a wetsuit swim, and I've never been to the city and am excited to see it while racing. I'm also looking forward to the 6000 feet of altitude benefit and see what it's like. |

I've always loved that part of the country, and the thought of doing IMFL (look pinescrub, more pinescrub, more pinescrub, did I mention pinescrub?) was impossible to take. So I figured I'd go for the environment the most UNLIKE Florida Actually I just tought of a place to swim. It's not OW but we have some natural springs up in in N FL that are a constant 70F. I know, that's probably still way warmer than CdA. Edited by TriRSquared 2010-10-22 8:02 AM |

I'm hoping this dizziness goes away soon. I could not imagine riding a bike right now. I'm on the doctor ordered "no training, packing on 5 lbs, sitting on my butt" plan right now. |

Veteran 262 Clarksvile | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread TriRSquared - 2010-10-21 9:29 AM Need some advice... The wife and I attempted our first half this last weekend with some unexpected results (short story me + car = ER) http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=230963&start=1 And I'm fine. A bit dizzy and sore but all things considered I'm lucky. Anyway, I know we don't *have* to do a half before CdA but we really want to. We both felt real good (up until my head connected with the truck) and could have finished the half easily and better than we had expected. So it's not a confidence thing. It's a "checking it off the list" thing. I know, it's kind of OCD... Problem is finding an early season half to get in before CdA. We have some options but wanted to know how close would you cut it? 4 weeks? 6 weeks? 8 weeks? More? ETA: And I know this is different for every person and every race but looking for a general consensus and rule of thumb. Check locally or nearby states for Half’s other than Ironman Brand. You can look at Ca 70.3 to see if they have what I think, they call founder slots still available. A little more expensive but a portion of it is TAX deductible. Although I concur with other people, just focus on IMCDA. Stuff happens, thankfully your ok. Good luck. Edited by tribean 2010-10-22 9:07 AM |

Member 6 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I am debating between Wildflower long course (5/1) and the Auburn Half (5/22). Auburn at 5 weeks out may sound close but it worked nicely (for me) in 2010: one 3 week block of peak work and then 2 weeks for tapering. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Rode a full loop on my CT this morning, question or the vets. How does wind generally play into the course. Seems like you can get a good avg til the hills and then improve the avg after the hills. Curious if wind generally affects either scenario? |

How does wind generally play into the course. Seems like you can get a good avg til the hills and then improve the avg after the hills. Curious if wind generally affects either scenario? I hear different stories from people year to year on that course. This past June, we had a calm day until the 2nd lap. Wind hit us going back out along the Centennial Trail along Lake Coeur d'Alene. I'd advise taking it easy out on lap 1, even on the flat parts at the beginning. Once you hit the hills up around Hayden, manage your effort and then pick up at your "normal" pace coming back down Government Way approaching lap 2. That'll set you up better for 2nd time around on those hills. It's very easy to overdo it early in the ride. |

You really can not predict the wind direction in CDA. The last few years it has seemed to be more of a cross wind than a head or tail wind. |

Veteran 185 Spokane | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I agree with T in Liberty. Two years ago was ridiculous all the way around, while this past year was pretty moderate. I don't remember the wind being a big negative on the bike atleast. Plan for 84 degrees, with 5-10mph wind in any direction |
