My wife signed me up on christmas as a gift! First time running a Full Ironman. Coming from Kansas. Has anyone raced Ironman 70.3 Kansas, and if you have how does the bike course compare to Lousiville. Thanks!!

Hi all, just signed up for Louisville a few days ago... I have one sprint triathlon under my belt, but have always wanted to compete in an Ironman and have no doubt that with 30 weeks of training I can finish AND reach all of my goals! I just found the forum a few weeks ago, and its great to have a community of people who are so knowledgable about triathlons, and IM Louisville in particular... thanks for all the help and input! Can't wait to see you all in August!

Hey Eric, glad to have you aboard! It is a pretty daunting task to sign up for an Ironman with only one sprint tri under your belt, and I am speaking from experienceSmile Way to step up! It is certainly possible to git 'er done without having done anything longer and training for 30 weeks. Good luck and enjoy the journey.

WELCOME NEW EDITIONS!
It looks like the bus is getting full.
Welcome to Tona, Craig, Erica, Todd.Chestnut
...did I leave any recent registrants out? Sorry if I did.

If I get to it, another interview will be posted on my blog tonight, otherwise the goal is tomorrow. I'll have to post the questions again in case any of our recent additions have an interest in participating in an interview.

Had an interesting swim session this morning...(IF I counted correctly...I seem to write that more often than I would like when jotting down my swim workouts in my journal).

After my warm-up, I did 2x500yd TT. The first one was using bilateral breathing. The second one was with single-side breathing. Now, I'm not bringing this up as a topic for further debate or input...though I found it invaluable previously, so thank you. I'm posting it more as a matter of interest. Granted the result might have been different if I had done this in the opposite order.

500 yd bilateral breathing- 8:09
500 yd single-side breathing- 8:18

...again, if I counted correctly. I spent the rest of my available workout time messing with my aerobars to keep working on getting that just right. I'll have to look at my 2010 training log to see what a typical 500 yd TT was.

Peace,
~Sam

Sam,

When you say you were doing 500 TT, I assume the TT is for Time Trial, meaning you were simulating race conditions?

Thanks

Nice christmas present, woohoo!
Lots of us are doing both Kansas and LOU this year it seems... I haven't done LOU yet but have heard the bike course hills are very similar.

What part of Kansas? I live in Wichita.

You also need to consider that there is a fatigue factor for the second... So by my math, you are equal if not faster on single sided breathing.

Kris-Welcome
Alan- yes, tt = time trial...race pace-ish.
Joe- Valid point and I recognize this. I think my bi-breathing experience is helping me with my overall swimming experience regardless.

Peace.

I would definitely like to hear if/when people might go down and do some course riding.  It would be great to have a group.  Right now I have a Spinervals DVD of the IM Louisville bike course to "ride" on my trainer.  It is 3 hours (I just do a section or two at a time); it only does one loop of the course, no repeats.  It's a pretty good preview.

Its the "On The Road" series of Spinervals. Vol. 5 Louisville Ky Training Ride.

It is supposed to snow here in Indiana tonight. So, the treadmill and trainer will still be well in use. Come on warm"er" weather.

Stay warm everyone!

There is a set of group rides with SAG support, including swims on some dates.  Here is the site with info...  http://iamtri.com/group/ironmanlouisville2011/forum/topics/imky-2011-group-ride-dates-and

Some of those dates work perfectly with my training schedule.  i am looking forward to getting a course preview.

I am done with the treadmill for the year.  Bring on the snow.  There is nothing like running on fresh fallen snow.

I'm also a first timer,

Did one half last year, doing another one for training in may.

I'm lucky enough to be interning in Savannah during the winter, so I can get my swims and rides in. I just have to figure out how to train when i go back to college in cincinnati in the spring.
