For you guys trying to drop some weight, how are things going?  I'm down 5 pounds from the first of February.  Nothing special just counting calories.

Not good.  I was down to 205 (from 210) but have creeped back towards 210.  I've tried counting calories but don't know what my daily intake should be.  How do I figure that out?

What kicking pattern do you all use when swimming?  Two, Four or Six Beat?

I've been a two beat kicker since I started back swimming in 06.  I've started playing around with the higher frequency.  I'm usually faster, but boy my hamstrings fatigue quickly.

I guess this article sparked my interest.  The drills in the video look rough.

Bama I'm typically a 4beat kinda person. I'm not strong at kicking, but my form is there. I tire out quickly so usually I just easily kick.

From my OW swimming days we usually didn't kick until we turned to breathe and then we were taught to scissor kick. So occasionally I drift into that world, but I try to focus on the 4beat. Pretty easy for me.

As for weight loss - either my scale is wrong or I'm doing something right. I was down to 158 and it showed for 2 days on the scale! That's the lowest I've been in a LONG TIME. Last year I was racing at 168-174.

I'd be ecstatic if I could get to 155 and drop that BF too! I've added some serious medicine ball workouts which have done some great overall training! That, eating better, and avoiding the junk! And maybe, just maybe, the increase in speed work has fired up the internal cylinders...

Relaxed 4 beat kick.  It has been getting better lately as I have found the timing between arms and legs.  I am driving through better with the legs and my times have shown it - I am still finding speed increases.

Saw the TT - can't go, which is a shame.

I have also lost weight - at least 5 lbs. since Mercedes.  I spent 2-3 months trying to drop weight before that race with zero luck and now it is dropping off like crazy.  I haven't the foggiest idea why.  I am eating like a pig.

Im a fat azz!

So I found a calorie calculator online (The Daily Plate).  According to it if I want to loose 1.5 pounds a week and I'm "Moderately" active I should consume  2475 calories.  If I'm only "lightly" active, I should consume 2111 calories a day.  These just seem way to high.

That's a lot of calories to cut out in a day.

I only try to cut out 300 a day.  Then 1-2 days a week I'll eat right at the amount of calories I burned.

Do you do any drills?  Or is that your natural rhythm.

I do some kicking drills, but not on cadence.  It is a natural rhythm.

I've had good luck with my fitness pal.  Down 10 pounds in 3 weeks (if you count the 5 I gained on the cruise and then lost again).  For me it's about calorie counting and paying attention to portion control.

Also, I've been sick this week and I'm discouraged.  I'd had two huge weeks of build, and then bam, flat on my back for 3 days with a sinus infection and double ear infection.  Ugh.  Got back at it today with an hour in the pool of endurance swimming and felt good, but it stinks to get sick right when ramping up!

I've got a 1/2 marathon next weekend, so I guess I have a couple more days of good workouts, then I need to taper down for that race.  I'm getting nervous that I'm not getting in enough bikes - 1/2 iron is inching closer!!
