Asalzwed - 2012-07-11 2:38 AM Ah man, several people have come to my desk today to talk to me about running (randomly) and now I am super nervous for the marathon. Sealed

Good! You're getting the slow and the nervous out of your system. All is well and exactly as it should be.

So, talk to me about running.

fffffffffffffffuuuuuu....I don't normally get this nervous.

What would you like to know about running, Yanti dear. Clothing IS optional. You don't even need shoes.

You know I'm all about the clothing-optional! Sports bra isn't optional for running. Although I suppose I could run for a short distance holding them in with my arms. I'd look kinda funny though. (As if I wouldn't look funny enough running naked down the street)

So what did you decide about hydration-bearing?

I know all the tips and tricks, as a once-regular-streaker in high school. I grew up on a lake so actually, it was a regular duathlon-streak running from my house and jumping in the lake.

Well, the course is going to for sure have water stations ever 3(ish) miles. A specific few of them will be manned and a few will be self serve. The self serve stations will still have cups so it just may be a matter of stopping, filling then carry on. No biggie. The weather MAY be a factor but as of now it's looking good (70 degrees and clear) if it gets above 80, I'll HAVE to use those self serve stations.

I am generally pretty casual with my workouts in that I don't let them get in the way of life. I'm the, "So what if I just ran 20 miles, I'll totally come play a pick-up game of basketball" type.

Anyhoo, I need you all to help me make a judgement call. Some friends are going on a 30-ish mile ride on Thursday. Normally I would go without hesitation but my race is on Sunday and I'd rather not compromise anything. On one hand, 30 miles is nothing...but shoot, I don't think I am thinking clearly so I'm not sure.

How hard are they going to ride?  Easy or hard?  Huge hills?  This is an A-race for you, no?  I think it depends on some of those answers.  If you don't do as well as you want are you going to wonder if it was because of the ride?

ETA: Or listen to Yanti Wink

You were more or less saying the same thing Smile

Speaking of sound training. I will be hitting 15xx miles of running in 2012 this weekend! OMG!

*rubbing eyes in disbelief and shock*  wow, that's some serious run mileage!  I probably haven't run that in my lifetime let alone in 7 months!!!  You are my running idol!!! *genuflecting reverently*

I had to look up genuflecting Smile

Well, you run a lot, you get better. I'm trying to see how good I can get.

Thanks though, seriously. Not TOO many people realize what kind of commitment it takes to get that many miles in. While I generally prefer to be under the radar, it's nice when people get it.

I tried to do the math to figure out what that came to in weekly mileage, but got too tired so i stopped. Nerves before a race are a good thing, I predict a fast time

Mmmm 60-70ish

and that's why I got tired. I once had a couple of 200 mile months and that about killed me, can't imagine doing more mileage more consistently. Good grief!

Yanti (and Salty, apparently), if you don't like running in clothes you can come to my part of PA for the Bouncing Buns 5K held at a local nudist area.  They allow racers to wear as much or as little as they like.  No photographs are allowed (unless you are photographing yourself) and they post results as anonymously as possible.  It was about 3 weeks ago, I think, so you can plan on it for next year, LOL!

Oh man, they have one of those here too! I actually really want to do it, especially after reading ' Naked by David Sedaris.  I have no issues with nudity but I think I am too immature and would be giggling uncontrollably and pee my pants..err, I guess just plain pee

I'm giggling uncontrollably imagining all that.

They used to have the Bare Hare Triathlon in NC but they haven't held it for a few years.

Aaah, the old BT ... where you could post pics of yourself running naked. Heck, we posted pics of other people running naked.

Where the mods posted pics of lingerie models in lace-only or see-through lingerie.

Okay, I realize that's not for everybody.

But still.

amd723 - 2012-07-11 3:41 AM Thanks for the nice words regarding my decent into half madness! *shrug*

I'm a big fan of trial and error. Dial down the intensity for the first few weeks and you should be just fine.

Yeah I agree, and it's not like you have been doing nothing.

How is the hammy doing BTW? Be sure not to force anything to meet the training plan requirements.

Back from my race and Coldstone!  Had a great time.  I really love this race.

Race report is up.

Plus, I get to do it again next week and will be even faster.

A repeat! Yaaay! Will you repeat Cold Stone, too? We had them at the Bali Tri ... sooooo yum!

I got to watch some VERY competitive pole vaulting on the beach this weekend. There were some soon-to-be Olympians, Olympic hopefuls and a slough of average joe vaulters. I hope to do this event next year if I can get a little training in:

I also did some trail running on the Xterra course. It was gorgeous and a very nice break from the pavement.

HOTHOTHOT pics! Jealous! I've been watching Diamond League on TV and making slurping noises. If you do pole vaulting next year and don't get vid, you can consider our deal over. (Whatever deal it is we have).

Yeah, not sure if you can tell from that pic or not but that is Paul Litchfield and he is wearing his standard powder blue tux-unitard. With not much left to the imagination in the frontal area.

Oh and in terms of the deal, you're on. I'll totally get video. Maybe I can get someone to video a little at my marathon this weekend. It's no pole vaulting...but whatev.

Great job on all the racing everyone. Nice to see you all finish safely with no injuries. will catch up with the RR's and comment soon.

Well done on the good samaritan role kirsten. The boy will remember you for all the right reasons and realise that humanity is not all bad. I'm with Kirk, I hope they catch the ars*hole.

Hey Kirk, stop wasting beer out of your nose. Early Sunday morning drinking is too precious an experience.

Salty, even i know the cycle ride is a bad idea. And i thought you had the taper madness under control.

As for myself, had a quiet weekend training wise (read as 'did nothing') as i had lots of stuff on. Now bouncing off the wall so will be back at it with a vengeance today.  SB and R are planned for today with the bike and run done as a brick hopefully.

Have a good Tuesday y'all.

Good use of "y'all" - the South would welcome you!

Agreed, well played old chap!

Hammy has some soreness, but i'm trying to be smart with it or as smart as i ever am.  Yeah, i'm really not worried about the training.  Of course, during my last HIM training I gave myself a concussion, so anything short of that is no big deal!

Worse. I'm a Watcher. How was it one of the mods put it? Porcupine guarding the balloons.

Well Yanti, you do seem to be the Queen of the carefully-dished-out-non-disrespectful-inappropriateness.  Laughing

I *Love* that title. Tho' all this time, I thought I was slopping 'em out

By the way, kudos on a killer OWS ... very well executed AND still with good takeaways for next time.

Heh.  Just meant that you reserve them for certain threads.

And thanks!

O. M. G.

Thank you Salty for the photo of the Month! Love it! (I kinda have a thing for pole vaulters - Dated one once... oh... the memories... )

OOHh, I've been busy - did a drive by read of all the goings on here - I'm really proud of our group - great racing, great tapering, great half-iron-signing-up, great recovering, great photos of HOT POLE VAULTERS,  just GREAT, pod!!

Keep up the great work, everyone - as this week slows down for me I'll be around more.  I get to go shoot a Hobie Cat regatta this weekend - should be fun - kinda an adventure to have all my $$$ camera gear on a small boat when it's super windy and WET!  Always an adventure! (oh and I have to get a taper bike in there too - HIM coming up the weekend after next )

tata!

I'm kinda returning to the land of living...though I was happy with the race, I've spent the last two days fighting with some CRAZY bad depression...not entirely unusual, but its been tougher than average to beat.

Great job everyone from over this weekend!

Here's the race report, finally.
