Subject: RE: Ghoulies HMs and margaritas

Yesterday morning Keri was at the orthodontist to get an appliance cemented into the roof of her mouth to help spread her jaw out, there is no room for her teeth to come in. This spring the kid will be getting braces. Right now she can't talk, or eat, and she is drooling all over the place. I felt so bad for the kiddo last night. She normally is moving and eating around the clock. Last night she couldn't eat anything. She had some mashed potatoes, and a slushy I made her for dinner. She just kind of laid around and wanted me to hold her last night.

Today her chorus ensemble is going to Harrisburg to sing Christmas carols at the Capitol building, then taking a tour afterward. The have arrangements then to take the kiddos out to lunch, but she doesn't want to go. I'm going to watch them sing so she asked me to bring her home with me. I'll stop somewhere on the way home where we can try and get something for her to eat. I know a little ma and pop diner where we can probably get mashed potatoes, cooked vegetables, and ice cream. I was going to stop and pick up a few stocking stuffers, but I'll do that later.

Oh, that hurts. My brother went through all of that. I watched and it was why I chose NOT to have braces. I was borderline and there was no way I was going through all of that. The folks let me choose. My crooked teeth now are testament, I wish I did it now.

I had braces for 3 years, but just braces. Caleb had an appliance, too, but his was different, and not cemented in, he could remove it. We should have waited until after Christmas, but this was when they could get her in. Her orthodontist is older and only works 1 day a week, and he's off the entire month of February. She called me this morning and told me she was hungry. She asked if we could get ice cream for lunch today. I think that we will.

Good thing the mouth heals pretty fast. And ice cream can cure a lot of ills!

Good Morning, Ghoulies

Christmas party tonight.  Will be fun but a long day.  I think at least 85% of the people there are retired so don't have to worry about going to work tomorrow.  Oh well.

Tough any time, but especially at Christmas.  How long is it supposed to be in and how long before she can eat normally?  Glad that she is still going to sing

Cool! I was going to try that, but my pup doesn't like most dog biscuits and I was fearful it would be a waste of time. I know, I know, what kind of dog doesn't like biscuits? My former dog would do a cookie dance, she even knew how to spell cookie, biscuit,  and treat.

My son went through something similar.  I had to turn it a couple of times each day for about a week or so to spread out the jaw.  It was painful.  Milkshakes are good.

back in the day, when I had braces, they just pulled out four of my teeth because the mouth was not big enough.  but now they don't want to pull the teeth, so they spread the jaw.  ouch.

You might try them.  This recipe makes a small batch and doesn't take much stuff.  My dogs do like treats but they are REALLY fond of these.  My shepherd has a touchy gut and a lot of foods and treats/biscuits give her the runs.  These biscuits don't seem to bother her gut at all.  They are also supposed to be lower calorie than biscuits like milk-bones which is important for my little dog.

Good morning Ghoulies!

The kiddos did a great job with the concert yesterday. Keri sang what she could, she was slobbering all over the place though. I took her home with me after their tour so we could stop and get lunch. She was able to eat a small burger, my fries, and mashed potatoes. Then to top it all off she ate some ice cream. I knew the kid was hungry, she barely ate the day before.

That's what the device my daughter has is for, to spread her jaw because there is no room for the adult teeth to come in. I turn it 2 notches, once a day, for 2 weeks, then it will just sit there for another 2-3 months. I know the kid is hurting, but she doesn't like to take medicine so I can't get any motrin in her.

When I was her age, and I needed braces, I had 9 teeth pulled. I'm glad they don't do that anymore.

We've made dog biscuits before, several types. Both dogs loved them! I also made sweet potato chips in the food dehydrator. Wynn, my Golden Lab loved those, Milo wouldn't touch them, but I've heard if you put some garlic powder on them that picky dogs may eat them.

My son went through something similar.  I had to turn it a couple of times each day for about a week or so to spread out the jaw.  It was painful.  Milkshakes are good.

OUCH! I change my mind. I am glad I didn't have any orthodontia after all!

back in the day, when I had braces, they just pulled out four of my teeth because the mouth was not big enough.  but now they don't want to pull the teeth, so they spread the jaw.  ouch.

And that's supposed to be better??!!  Yikes!!!

That is why I didn't get braces. They wanted to remove 8 molars (you know, most of them) and have my wisdom teeth repace 4 of them. When they did the x-ray and found out I didn't' have wisdom teeth (go ahead, make the jokes ) the still wanted to pull all of them. All I could think of was the Abdominal Snow man in Rudolph with no teeth. I said no.

deehtz - 2012-12-19 9:59 AM Did I mention that I made dog biscuits this weekend?  My first try at homemade treats for them.  They are supposed to be healthier and less calories than the store bought biscuits.  My dogs LOVE them!

Cool! I was going to try that, but my pup doesn't like most dog biscuits and I was fearful it would be a waste of time. I know, I know, what kind of dog doesn't like biscuits? My former dog would do a cookie dance, she even knew how to spell cookie, biscuit,  and treat.

I am game. Can you send me the recipe?
