You all are studs!  Melissa, congrats!  All it takes is one race to get hooked!  LOL!

I have had a tough few weeks.  My grandmother passed away, so we all packed up and flew to PA (that is where all of my family and my husband's family is).  And I missed my Oly race as we were flying back that day.  Lots of other silly stuff going on also....I have entirely too much to do!

ANYWAY, I have a 1/2 IM in just over 2 weeks!  YIKES.  My calf is better, but because of that injury, I haven't been able to run enough to be ready.  But I will do it anyway and just run and walk to get through!  Should be an interesting day!

Keep on kickin' butt all of you!

Hey all, this has been a HE double L of a day.

First off, my stepmother passed away last night. She was in a home in PA, 85 and was failing fast. My dad is in NC and I can't get there to give him a hug.

Second, a good friend has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Having gone through it last year, I have an idea of what she is facing and I feel for her. Spoke with her husband this morning and he is trying to be strong. Keep their family in your prayers.

Two weeks to go to the next race and I am no where's near ready, but boy do I need the mental & physical release that a race gives you.

Thanks for being out there everyone.

Got out and did a brick (bwick) yesterday morning before work. It felt good. Tonight a friend and I are going to go swimming and then ride our bikes. After biking on a trianer it always feels good to be outside biking on the road. What a difference.

Cathy, I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother.  I'm sure that had to have been tough.  Good luck on your HIM.  I don't know how you do it with your busy schedule.

Kendra, I'm sorry to hear about your stepmother.  I hope you can get to see your Dad soon.  I'm sorry to hear that your friend has breast cancer.  I'll keep her in my thoughts. Good luck on your upcoming race.  I know you're going to do well!

I'm leaving on Fri morning to drive up to the mountains in NC (Waynesville NC) my first Oly race is Sat.  I'm pretty nervous about it and thinking what did I get myself into, yikes!

Heather & I and a couple of other people we know swam 2 laps at the OWS practice on Sat morning.  We left my house about 6:15 am then we biked about 17 miles.  We had a good time!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Good luck with your race this weekend Mel. I drive through Waynesville all the time when I go to Asheville area. My dad is just east of Asheville in Swannanoa & my sister is north of Asheville in Marshall. It is really beautiful country.

Got out today after work and went swimming in the rain. It stopped raining by the time we rode our bikes. It all felt good.

Cathy, yes we have what you call swim tennis neighborhoods. That means your subdivision has at least two tennis courts and a swimming pool for the neighborhood that is paid for by your homeowners association dues. The swimming pools are outdoors in the neighborhood and they are 50 meters long, usually 5 lanes. Of course you have to time when you go so that you aren't swimming around all the loungers in the the pool. I'm lucky our neighborhood had two pools and one is more popular with the kids, so i go to the other pool. The neighborhood pools are only open in the summer.

During the rest of the year when the neighborhood pool is closed I have a yearly pass at the Park and Rec pools which are inside. They have been building new aquadic centers here in Gwinnett County and the new pools are beautiful. I really enjoy going to them, but you do compete with other swimmers, high school swim teams, lessons and water aerobics. You often have to share your lane, but usually only with one other person at the times that I usually go.

Hello everyone! I feel like the last few weeks every time I get on BT I either have about one minute to log my training or someone (some child I should say) needs me. Having them all home for the summer is ROUGH! School starts August 27th here but my 2 older girls leave a week from today to go up to Seattle to stay with their grandparents for 2 weeks. We are going up for the last part and will fly home with them.

Mel - Good luck on your first oly, I did my first oly in April and I was quite worried about it. It was much easier than I was expecting.....not easy, but easier than I had my mind set on.

Cathy - I met with my trainer tonight and she is signed up to do IMCdA. She is the one who is the cancer survivor and did her first IM after finishing chemo. I REALLY want to watch an IM in person and not just on the internet, but I need to figure out which one will work best with our schedule. Maybe I can figure out a way to come next summer to Seattle (where my in-laws live) during the early part of the summer instead of August. I want to jock strap for an event and then maybe in 2009 or 2010 or 2015?!?!? I will be ready to do a full one.

Kendra - I have also had a crazy week with bad news related to friends and family regarding cancer discoveries, death and some other difficult situations. It reminds me of how lucky I am and how much I have to be grateful for. I hope your friend is doing OK, I will keep them in my thoughts.

OK, the point about coming to Seattle in June next year is because I think it isn't too too far from IMCda, maybe a day's drive?

MEL!  How did the race go?  dying to know

Jill, if you can come to IMCdA next June that would be AWESOME!  And I am *considering* coming to TX for Playtri HIM 4/08.  I'll need a HIM to do before the IM!

Kendra, looks like it's me and you for races next Sunday!  woo hoo!

IMCda - what is this race? Obviously a big one. I tried googling it and came up with a race in Lake Placid (which I thought was in New York and that is not anywhere near Seattle) and a whole bunch of people's blogs on the race, but still haven't been able to figure it out. Guess I'm not ready to be an Iron Man (or woman) if I can't find a race.

yup, ready to race this Sunday. It is a women only race, so that is pretty cool. i'm old enough to be able to go in the first wave. Wahoo! Bet non of the rest of you are. Did a bwick this morning and it felt good. Tomorrow I'll swim and bike again and that might be my last swim before the race. Everyone is talking about how the lakes water is low and that it will be more of a mud swim than water swim. This should be interesting. Frank is coming so I will get him to take some pictures.

Good luck to you and your race Cathy. How is you leg (?) doing? Better I hope.

I just thought I would check in real quick.  The race went well.  I didn't have any time goals just to finish it since it was my first oly and hopefully finish before they kick me off the course (if you didn't finish within 4 hours they take you off the course).  I'll be back to do my race report.  I gotta go put my kids down for nap time.

IMCdA = Ironman Coeur d'Alene www.ironmancda.com   I signed up for next year...it sold out in 6 days.  Most Ironman races sell out in one day.  Crazy.

My leg/knee/calf...all good.    FINALLY I am healthy, with the exception of this virus that I have.  LOL!  I can't catch a break!

I'll be anxious to hear about your race Kendra!  And Mel, YAY!  I'll be waiting to read  your race report!

Okay, my race report is done.  I just read it over and it sounds like I'm complaining quite a bit, sorry for the tone.  I wish I could go back & edit it now.  It was actually a good race and a lot of fun.  I was just really nervous before the race.  On the way to the race I started crying and told my husband I didn't think I could do it.  He helped me feel better and said you can do it!  It was a lot different than the sprint races.  Most of the people there had really nice bikes and were a little more on the serious side.  My goal was to finish & to have a good time.

Good luck on your races this weekend Kendra & Cathy!

Mel, you did GREAT!  YAY!  You can still edit your RR if you want, hit "races" under one of your posts and I'm pretty sure there is an "edit" prompt.  I think anyway.

Anything else this summer for you?

Melissa, good job on the race. sounds like you learned a lot from the race and that is always a positive. This year I am only doing sprints and have set a goal for myself to do a OLY next year. So I am impressed that you did one your first year of TRI's. Way to go!!!

Kendra & Cathy, How did your races go?  I hope everything went well.  It has been really hot here this past week.  We have been riding really early.  I swam & rode with Heather on Wed. at 5:30 & I rode this morning at 6 before it starts to get hot out.  I hope everyone is doing well!

Yeah another race done. This morning I was so nervous, feeling unready for the race, but once it got going, so did I. I did not look at the time as I was crossing the finishline, but my hubby thinks it was around 1:52. So about what I did last time, but this one the bike was one mile longer. My wave was the first to go. Once out of the water and on the bike I was excited to see that no one in my wave passed me, but I passed some of them. A lot of the younger crowd in the first two waves behind me did pass me though. I don't think anyone in the last two waves passed me, so I am feeling pretty good. I saw one 66 year old and one 65 year old doing it. Way to go. I hope I have their energy when I hit that age.

Heat wave! It has been a record breaking heat wave here in Georgia. But someone was looking down on us this morning. The weather cooperated and we were overcast with a breeze. Now, later in the day the heat is back full force.

I updated my RR with the posted times. I'm really happy with my results. I really need to work on cutting down my transition times. I am so pumped. It is amazing how the day before the race, I am wondering what the heck I'm doing entering a race like this. But then we start and away we go and all I can do is think about reaching the finish line and not wanting anyone to pass me who is in my age group. I guess that is the competitive person in my trying to break out.

Yeah, Cathy, I believe that I am hooked on this sport. I've decided that I will work towards an OLY for next year and then we shall see after that.

Next race is 4 weeks away. Sept 8th. Who is up next for a race?
