My trip was insane. I don't even know where to start.

Um... with your delayed flight and hence your lovely 'welcome' to Chicago??

So, there I was at 3:00 am on the el. As I floated between  sleep and consciousness, there was a man in the corner of my peripheral. Something about him caused me to take notice. I opened my eyes and slowly turned towards him, seeing the signs posted stating "If you feel unsafe, switch cars" as my gaze shifted ....

Not quite.

Nice job AGNat-ers and other racers! Can't wait to read the reports (especially the race weekend shenanigans).

Jo, so sorry about your friend. His family will be in my prayers.

I went to the myotherapist again. (why oh why does he feel a need to carry on a conversation with his elbow in my back?! It's almost as bad as the dentist!Yell) I am definitely feeling that *something* is happening. I feel... more loose in the joints I think. I feel great, even after the 3 hour hike with DS1 yesterday.

The office manager at the myotherapist is in to "essential oils". She mentioned a couple of them to me today. The peppermint, when rubbed topically on the legs, is supposed to "oxygenate the blood" and help release lactic acid. Not sure I believe that something topical can oxygenate the blood but I'm willing to try it pre-run to see how it affects my runUndecided. She gave me a small sample. She also mentioned another one that is supposed to help with migraines. I'm willing to try that one too, when I have my next one.

I think I'll do a little research though, after I read some race reports.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, put anything with peppermint or cinnamon on your temples for ANY reason.  Unless that burning feeling in your eyes for 24 hours is something that you enjoy, that is.  Trust me on this.

She did warn me about getting it near my eyes. She said if it accidentally happens to flush it with olive oil. Of course, I live in the land of the chili pepper. I've had that in my eyes a time or two Surprised

Flush your eyes with olive oil?  WTF?

Hmmmmm I'm not sure about that either. I have heard that beer is good pre race hydration though.

Evidently, not wine But that is a rumor, nothing I have tested.

I tried to tell Monica, I did. But she would not listen.

We did agree to do a Canada vs US poutine mile. And this was before she and Tony finished their bottles of wine.

One part of this stuck out to me. "...bottles of wine." Because one is never enough!

That was EXACTLY my thought! Laughing

I completely agree and am skeptical, at best. I have a (large) friend who is on one of those body wrap kicks and i sorta see this similarly. You can't burn fat by wrapping yourself in herbs and plastic, put down the fork and run, and I don't believe you can oxygenate your blood through the skin either. What I think it *might* do, is have the same effect as the "icyhot" type rubs, which may or may not be helpful pre-run.

Finally home, clean, and relaxing. The weekend was CRAZY---the Spartan Race was epic--over 3000 ft elevation change, brutal obstacles, and even a rattlesnake! Laughing  The caving was crazy-scary but fun too---I learned how terrified I could be--and it wasn't from being underground/in a confined space, but slipping off of the rocks! (I did in joy rappelling into the cave though--the part I thought I would be most scared of!) More to come in RR and posts later, but I am really banged up and sore (bruises, sore muscles, skinned knees, etc....i.e. a great adventure! Here's a couple of caving pics:

Me rappelling into the cave--it was a 40 foot drop in through a smallish chimney....easier than I thought!

This was before all the terrifying moments--I still thought I had this somewhat beat! Not so much...And of course it was the morning after doing the 13+ mile, multi-elevationed Beast....Never said I was smart.

So, on a side note. Did you all know Alaska Airlines lets you fly with your bike for 20 bucks each way?

Also, they will store your bike for you at the airport if for some reason your flight is late and your rental car agency is closed. Also, they will help you get your bike into your way too small car, including getting you some rope to keep the trunk closed.

Great people, those Alaska folks.

Okay, I'm SO glad someone else questioned this too - I was wondering if I was so behind the times that OLIVE OIL was now a good thing to put into your eyes???

Wow - really?  $20 each way???  I don't think anyone can match that price, or would be nice enough to do all the other stuff.
