Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread ctrapper24 - 2010-08-12 10:45 AM lisac957 - 2010-08-12 10:29 AM I'm with you Lisa. If I go at 8:30, I anticipate finishing the swim at 10:00 or so, then go and get ready for the ride. I won't win anything, so I don't have to stay for the awards, but I would to wait on others since I'm sure you 1 hour swim finishers would wait for me to drag myself out of the water. Are we going to ride from the Terrace and do the whole course? Is that the plan? Ok that is what I was thinking. I won't be a 1-hour finisher, I'm anticipating 1:20-1:30 based on past long OWSs. I would like to ride from the Terrace to get the whole experience of "the stick" in. I'm also a 1:20-1:30 (hopefully!) finisher and would like to do the entire course leaving from the Terrace. Maybe a group of us will be able to start the ride together. Any locals able to chime in about whether that's reasonably safe to do on a Saturday morning? Not a local but I rode the loops about a month ago on a Saturday morning/afternoon and there wasn't anything "unsafe" about it. Lots of riders out there, which was fun! I hear after this OWS race, a ton of people are usually out on the bike course. |

Is this so or do they use the stamps? sharpie So, let's say I am somewhat OCD( I don't even like the term, the letters are not in the correct order) and I want neat numbers for the press photographers and NBC coverage. Could I use a 2" stencil and apply the numbers early and avoid standing in line for body marking? |

I hear after this OWS race, a ton of people are usually out on the bike course. My fault as I wasn't very clear - I meant is the stick portion safe since the beginning of it is much more 'in town' with more traffic. I rode the loop in the beginning of June and know that was fine. I'll probably ride the stick regardless since so many people will be out and drivers won't be that surprised to see yet another cyclist; I was just curious Edited by ctrapper24 2010-08-12 10:56 AM |

I have done body marking several times (this year participating) You can ask if someone can make your numbers bigger and ask if they have neat writing or watch a few in action. What kind of press photog's and news coverage are you getting? Not sure if you are serious or not. |

PSSSHT who's counting? x2! As I was with my 1/2 Iron this year, it was more of a countdown to the prep. I'm more concerned with all the prep leading up to the actual event. But I can't say I'm not getting the butterflies when I realize IT'S A MONTH AWAY! It will be great day!!! |

Extreme Veteran 476 WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread How is everyone battling this WI/Midwestern heat and humidity? I was getting used to it last week and even biked in Sunday's 87 degree heat and steaminess, but this week has been brutal. I did my first treadmill run this week since early spring as I was sick of not being able to put in a quality base run in a while. Are you running at 3am and biking at 5am? Are you doing OWSs without a wetsuit? (the water in Madison is too warm to wear a wetsuit) Are you doing the treadmill, trainer, and pool workouts rather than doing anything outside? I have gotten used to training in the heat, but this crazy heat seems ... well ... unhealthy. (Yet, here we are training for our first or umpteenth IM). The only runners I'm seeing outside lately are those hardcore, runner-only types cruising at an 8 pace - and they don't sweat! I've seen very few cyclists out, other than the commuters. |

The only runners I'm seeing outside lately are those hardcore, runner-only types cruising at an 8 pace - and they don't sweat! I've seen very few cyclists out, other than the commuters. I would KILL for 87 degrees. We have been under an "excessive heat warning" since Monday. It will be 105 degrees with a heat index of 110+ when I leave work tonight to ride. It is simply oppressive. I cannot describe to you how much I've been sweating, from the moment I step outside. And the humidity just means there is less air to breathe. This is one of the worst/hottest summers on record for my area. We've set multiple high temps in the last month. I ran at 5:30 a.m. Monday morning but I wan't sure which sucked more... the morning, or running in the heat of the day. I am not an early bird. No westuits here since May. I've been doing everything outside, with an occasional short ride on the trainer. I like to run in the dark, so I just wait till the sun is going down and head out for a run. Headlamp is a must. So is a route where I can re-fill my water multiple times. I get heat rash on my legs every time I ride now. I've "seen stars" twice trying to do brick runs off of long rides in 100+ degree weather. I almost blacked out once. Heat is no joke, and I will be so grateful to race in anything below 100 degrees. Edited by lisac957 2010-08-12 1:19 PM |

I have been running in the Georgia heat this summer, and for whatever reason my runs seem to take place mostly between noon-3pm! I figure I better pack my winter clothes for IMWI. I am a former Chicago boy and I definitely miss it some times. Running in 110 heat index everyday is getting VERY OLD! |

Don, I just did a 100 mile ride today and it about killed me. I was doing great for the first 60 miles and then the heat took its toll. Fought a bonk/heat for the last 40 miles. I have been training in the heat to acclimate, but I spent the last week on vacation in Washington State where the temps were in the 60-70 range. Got home last night, ran in the heat and then did the long ride today. It is amazing how fast you loose the acclimation to the heat. |

Dinner at Bucatini's at 7:00 followed by a lot of swim, bike, run! Chasingkona - 1 dmmdds - 1 lisac957 - 1 SSMinnow ??? Mattb1 - 1 Steve1128 - 1 Gregkl - 2 lindakc - 1 I hope I'm not too late to get included in the Friday night dinner. Put me down for 1. I wasn't real sure the trip was going to happen until today. I was in a pretty bad bike crash at the tail end of RAGBRAI 2 weeks ago. Nothing broken, thankfully, but banged up pretty good. I took a week off and then tried some running and started experiencing some pretty bad groin pain. I've been in and out of the doctor's office and no one really knows whats going on. I got the green light to try some biking this weekend and knocked out a 30 miler yesterday and 100 today without any ill effects. So at least I can swim and bike. Well, at least I think I can swim. I haven't been in the water in 3 weeks due to ragbrai, road rash, and now flooding in town that has shut down the local pools. They should open up this week. This is shaping up to be an interesting first ironman for me! |
