You is "da man" for riding in that... I am not worthy!!!!

nicely done aquagirl.

Twas a darn sight more pleasant than my basement. And there were only about 3 cases of attempted vehicular homicide.............so not TOO bad! Its not like they cannot see me dressed like that. A-holes. They just cannot stand it that I am on their PRECIOUS road.

Have you guys heard about the anti cycling FB page that has 320000 fans???

Well I went for my sub zero ride and it was fine!!! It was -19C......-2F.......with the windchill. But I was not too cold. When i was riding into the wind the space around my glasses was a bit cold. Next time I will be a total geek and wear ski goggles.

gojogo - 2010-01-10 2:03 PM Love the dog pics, and the beautiful view from Natalie's.  Is that your back yard?

I was back on the snow board last night, but kept it on the ground.  Nice little adult party to help raise money for the ski hill.  As always there was lots of good food, drink, music, and company.  And its also wonderful to have the place to ourselves without 100's of kids all over the place.

I signed up for an indoor tri on Feb. 14th.  I have some work to do to get ready.  15 minutes for each event.  I took 4th last year, and am hoping to finish top 2.  Last year was the the first year so I'm sure the field will expand this time around.

Do I ever wish this was my backyard... sigh...  This beautiful area is where my parents now reside, in the province of Quebec, an hour away from Maine and New Brunswick, some 950 km (about 600 miles) from me.  I went over there for the holidays.  Great place for long, flat, hilly and windy rides and beautiful for running too! I wouldn't want to swim in the St Lawrence River though as the water is very salty and there's the tide to contend with as well, meaning you can't swim whenever you want.

Here's to you Kelly for pulling a top 2 finish at the indoor tri you signed up for!

Helen... Hats Balaclavas and long johns off to you for today's ride!

Couldnt pull myself out of bed this morning to get on the bike - 24 degrees and windy.  The plan now is to sneak in a swim at lunch and get the ride in this evening when its warmer.  Today is the last day of this un-Florida like weather.  Forecast is calling for high 60s and low 70s by mid week - woohoo!!
Once it warms up I should be well on the way to completing the challenge this month

Morning Peeps!
I am about to call the surgeons office and cancel my knee scope....gulp.....I know its the right decision but its still kind of hard to let the surgery date "go".

Whats everyone up to today?
I have icky masters this morning......and then a private lesson with my swim coach from last year......so she can show me the RIGHT way to flip. I think I have been mucking it up on my own. I have flip turn dyslexia or something..........

whats all that white stuff.

nice job though,, Is your knee better now that you don't need a scope?  and of course there is no "right" way to do a fliip turn,, abouty half of the masters I used to go to was ex college swimmers, talk about fast & humbling I was getting to be about a 1;30/100 person which for tri people is fast, then I'd go down to their end of the pool and get smoked by their warm up pace,  any hoo each one of them did flip turns different, of course they would each say their way was the correct way,

Hey all -

Making progress on the Ironman Challenge - and will get there by month's end. On other fronts, the clean eating is going well...except on Friday - too many calories (wine, bread basket) despite some otherwise solid choices (broccoli instead of onion rings).

I'm back teaching this week, which is always good - less idle time to stuff my face.

Got my swim in at lunch, 2100 yards - 2.95 miles so far in January and 20.95 running.  The cold has plagued my time on the bike but should have no problem making the total for the month (warming trend starts today).  Plan called for 1:20 on the bike today but my wife has pilates tonight - will get it in tomorrow am

Classes started today....@ 0730.  ugh.  who says profs like early classes???  My AM scheduled run was moved back to this afternoon due to student issues (ALREADY?? on the first day).  But, will be canceled due to a last minute meeting @ 4 PM which also negates spin class potentially....I LOVE MY JOB!  So we'll see what I can slavage tonight after leaving the building.

Right there with you, although it is family complications that are pushing into my night time (where I could have made up my trainer ride from my morning issues...)

Welcome back to class!

Kristen, Yeah for good eating! I too am on a roll. My husband is in China for 2 weeks and there really isnt anything "good " to eat here unless I cook it.

BTW the applesauce chicken in the  Crockpot 365 was really good!

Gary...I'm with ya on the flip turn thing. My son was a Div11 distance swimmer and he is alawys on my case about my flip turns. Even though I repeatedly tell him there are no walls in an OWS!!!!!

Too bad about school starting for you both! Do you get summers off???

exactly---i don't do flip turns in the pool because there are no walls in an ows. I also do not push off the wall for the exact same reason.

I am water logged!!
Two hours in the damn pool is quite enough for one day!
Masters was its usual nasty self......had to FIRMLY tell the silly young thing that she almost got kicked in the head and that if she wants to pass she really should NOT do it within 2 feet of the wall! I seriously almost did a flip turn right on top of her.
Later in the afternoon I had a private lesson with my sweet coach from last year. She assures my flips are perfectly respectable.....we just worked on keeping my arms out of the equation.

Now why am I being soooo stubborn about these flip turns when there is no wall in an OWS?? Simply because it makes it easier during Masters. I will swim like a swimmer.....or at least try to..........

Does time on a stationary bike count towards the challenge??  I just dont have the appropriate gear (or the hands, feet or face) to endure tomorrow on the bike at 5am.  I thought it would be a bit warmer, but it looks like high 20s and windy.  I'm no aquagirl, I guess you could call me sissygirl - maybe I should change my name!!

Yes it does. Any time spinning counts! I know that most of the folks in Fla are not "geared up" for the temps you have been having. It would be silly to buy welders mitts like aquagirl if your temps are 20 degrees once a year!!!Actually in thinking about it...not many ride their bikes with welders mitts

I dont know how many of you have or need wetsuits but there was a great thread in tri talk today for Xterra wetsuits. They dont have a fabulous reputation for lasting more than a couple of years, but for the price they cant be beat. Because we belong to BT we can use the BT code and a full wetsuit goes for $149, sleeveless for $99. If you rent more than twice it is worth buying at this price. Just an FYI!

just got back from swim class....next lesson she will have me doing a full stroke. I can't wait! I have been faithfully patient about not swimming and only doing drills and it is paying off. I cannot say enough about this coach. she is absolutely awesome!!!
