Is it as easy as taking wheels off the bike now? Any setup changes that have to take place? If you get speed from your bike computer based on wheel size and not GPS you might need to adjust your computer if you have different size tires. For example, if you normally ride 700x23 but got race wheels that were 700x21 then you'd need to adjust your computer to account for the different circumference of the tires. Other than that it should be just a matter of swapping them out. Thanks. If you get new wheels definitely pickup a new cassette so you can don't have to switch that over every time. Other than that you should be good. On recommendations. First are you riding with a powermeter of some sort. If so what kind? Are you looking for pure race wheels for tris or something for road races too or what? Do you want to tread into the tubular world or do you want to stick with clinchers? Definitely get a another new cassette! That's the biggest pain in the butt of having a set of race wheels.

| Extreme Veteran 1005 Sykesville | Subject: RE: BamaDC's mentor group is Closed! So I did the FTP test last night.  Pretty much sucked.  I used the from Coggan's book.  It was 20 min warm up 3 x 1 min (w/ 1 minute recovery) at high RPM (> 100) 5 minute recovery 5 minute "all out" (VO2max intensity) 10 minute recovery 20 minute "time trial" 10 minute cool down Overall I felt good about the test. My pacing during the 5 min VO2max interval was pretty bad. Started out too fast, dropped down, speed up, etc. I did much better during the TT part. I started a little slower then I thought I could go then built slow throughout and tried to kick it up at the end. I don't feel like I left a lot (if any) in the tank when I was done. One of the interesting things I noticed is that my cadence generally really high. I was spinning around 110-115 during the high RPM intervals and 95-105 during the TT part. I pulled the average power form the time trail portion, subtracted 5% and called that my FTP. Should I be looking at anything else? |

I'm guessing if I want to be remotely competitive on the bike, I need to average the 140/wk, not month. And that swim volume is LOW! Maybe when the studying and the kiddo calm down, I can get some good training in. There's no way I can successfully complete a HIM or more on that level of training!

It seems like the better my 5 min power is the worse my 60 minute/FTP will be. That seems counter intuitive to me. |

The LBS rented me a pair of Specialized Dupont TriSpokes for this weekend's race and it should be fun! The only thing, there's no magnet for the wheel. So, how do I hook up the magnet from my other wheels to these trispokes?

Now go out and hit the gas and see if you have the same rubbing problems. Those wheels should be as stiff as . For the magnet I'm sure a hot glue gun will work. |

If your FTP is ~300 you are in the 26mph range for a typical sprint tri ride. Those kind of numbers will have you winning the bike leg at most tris. |

I attached a screen shot from WKO but I can send you the power file if anyone is interested. Do you you think my PT isn't calibrated or is it something else? Keep in mind that I'm almost 210 lbs so that really only 3.1 W/kg which doesn't seem that high. (power.jpg) Attachments ---------------- power.jpg (72KB - 14 downloads) |
