Pretty decent week for me:

R:

I am going on a trip this week, so my swim yardage is going to be the suck, but my run mileage should be killer.  Did an 8 miler yesterday thinking I would be walking about half of it - my legs were toast from Saturday's ride.  No telling what happened - I got stronger and stronger as it went along.  Averaged 8:22 and cruised in the last mile at 7:40 or so.  Good start to the week.  I very well may get a 30 mile running week in.  We'll see.

BamaDC - 2011-03-10 9:35 AMFor you guys trying to drop some weight, how are things going?  I'm down 5 pounds from the first of February.  Nothing special just counting calories.
Im a fat azz!

So I found a calorie calculator online (The Daily Plate).  According to it if I want to loose 1.5 pounds a week and I'm "Moderately" active I should consume  2475 calories.  If I'm only "lightly" active, I should consume 2111 calories a day.  These just seem way to high.

That's a lot of calories to cut out in a day.

I only try to cut out 300 a day.  Then 1-2 days a week I'll eat right at the amount of calories I burned.

Sorry, I'm not following you.  Are you saying 1.5 lbs week (ie 750 cals/day) is too much or that the calorie counts are off?  I figured I would get a baseline amount of calories and then try to only consume that.  Problem is I can't figure out what that value should be.  Calculators like the one above seem to have arbitrary activity levels.  I found another one that tries to estimate the number of a calories I need prior to exercise ("Basel Metabolic Rate") then add the calories for my workouts but that doesn't seem right either.  For example, the calculator says I need 2083 calories just to sit around and get through my day.

Are you saying I should just log the number of calories I consume each day then cut 300 off that number and see what happens?

I really want to do IMKY next year.  So I may opt for AM.  Registration is 150 bucks cheaper and I'll only need a hotel room for one night.  They're also reworking the course so it won't be as hilly.

I was traveling for work this week so didn't get a chance to swim.  I did however get a chance to stop in the trisports.com store in person.  My bike is currently in the shop getting tuned up.  I have a HM this Sunday then it's time to get down to business for my Oly in May!

I've been pretty run focused recently but I'm feeling good of my HM.  I was hoping to push the mileage up to the 30 mi/wk range but wasn't able to.  However, I feel pretty good.  I've been doing right around 8:30/mile for my long runs recently and finished out a 10 miler this weekend with a 7:45 mile so I'm feeling pretty good going into this weekend.  I just need to taper and get my race plan set and I think I'm going to be pretty happy.  Oh... and I caught a 224 lb blue fin tuna this weekend!

I decided to stick with Olympic for this season.  I'm going to pull the trigger on a couple races tonight to setup the end of my season and am still looking at something for the middle.  I feel like I've got so much room to improve at the middle distance (ie oly) before stepping up to long course plus I can so more races during the year if I focus on shorter distance.  I'm considering Augusta for next year but that depends on how things play out this year.

I'm still thinking Augusta, but I'm not sure since it's exactly 1mo out from my full marathon. I'd like to think that'll be good for me, but i'm not sure how long the HIM recovery will take.

I'd like to do IMKY next year too, but just not sure.

What's the AtomicMan that you speak of Mark?

On tap today - 2x1.5mi TT, 20min circuit w/ a 15# medicine ball, and PT.

Tapering for this weekend so I've got an easy 4 miles planned for this afternoon.  Also have a call with Jorge scheduled to talk about his iCoaching service.

Other people can tell you what to expect for recovery but like everything it all depends on priorities.  You're going to make the marathon your priority I'm not sure I would do it.  I think you'll run the risk of being unhappy with your HIM performance (if you try to keep it in check) or risk your marathon if you really try to race Augusta.  I'd be interested to hear what others say since I've only done one marathon and wasn't training for anything else at the time and haven't done anything longer than an oly.

I would focus on your marathon.  I felt normal 4-5 days after my last HIM.  But you need miles on the feet, not in the pool or on the saddle.

Atomic Man is a HIM a little bit north of Chattanooga.  I've heard mostly good reviews and registration is 100 dollars.  I need to save up because IMKY is a 1500ish dollar trip.

I'm considering Augusta.  My husband raced it last year and it seems like a great race.  I've got my first HIM in May, then I'll decide if I want to do Augusta.

Do you have a link or info on Atomic man? I've kinda blown most of my chances for a HIM this year I do believe with scheduling a full Marathon in Oct. I really want to do a HIM or at least be ready to hit one early into next year so I'll be ready for a full in 2012. Sort of my deadline.

Ok, say I scrap the HIM at August and trade it for a half marathon a week earlier (Sep 17) giving me a good 6 weeks until the full. Think that would be acceptable or again asking too much?

OR yawl could ditch Augusat HIM, and do B2B half on Oct. 29th. Alot cheaper, and also a very flat, fast course. I rode the bike course on Sunday and averaged 21mph. Love flat courses!

If you had to throw down a 1.5mi TT, how fast could you do it? I seem to be stuck at 11:31 or there abouts. I'd love to break 11mins, but that's taking TONS of work. Today's is in my logs, but I just can't get much faster than that 7:4x pace and be able to maintain it.

Goal for this year is to shave a good minute off of that if possible. We're really about to start adding in some serious speed intervals (0.5mi - 1.5mi in the a.m. to help) and hopefully get this time down!

To go with it, the standard fit test is 1.5mi TT, max pushups/situps in 1minute. I'll have to dig for the grading chart, but I haven't been doing so well so I quit looking...
