Just finished my third workout today.  Swam 2500 yards this morning, rode 75 min on the trainer at lunch and ran 6.03 miles this afternoon.  Feeling fantastic!  Now I'm going to eat.  A lot.

Just in case you were ever torn between wearing compression socks and fancy shoes, you can do both!  Yes, I'm actually going out like this.

First off, those socks are hot!
Second, great advice to slokat everyone.
Third, my slayers are turning in the big days! Well done to wplummer, nicruns, and nerdjock on the triple! I banged out a triple myself. Just short of 5 hours on the day. Its good to be amongst friends who understand that life is about making the most of it. Lets keep it rolling!

Impressive. That's quite the day - that more than an Olympic tri. You're setting the bar.

yeah we do get some free races, but no free Continuing ed conferences haha

here is my mentor moment of the day. i need to run a tempo of 7 miles descending the pace from 8:00 to 6:40. My Achilles tendon is sore, which rarely happens. do i go for it and risk some compounding of the issue or rest and try and get it later?

EDIT to add: Mark's to pic is awesome. love those dropping the hammer shots!

I took it that none of you really were bothered about me running, so I HTFU and banged it out.

Mark,
These logs that you keep and emailed me are great. They are very detailed and of course the plan looks professional too. Not much to say about it other than you have lost 10lbs so far. Well done and also that you are mostly hitting the mark. I would say that IMC is going down. You will be very prepared. The only thing you might consider is that when you keep your log private like that you don't get the inspires that this site offers. However, some folks would prefer it that way.

Some of us have begun inspiring each other via reviewing their logs. So thats a nice side benefit of this mentor thread.

rest day for me!
yesterday was tough-- fartleks for 45 min or so followed by an hour with the master's group (just less than 3k swim in the end).
& i was holding up well, feeling strong & then when it came time to get OUT of the pool...
yikes.
WICKED cramp in my right calf muscle.

not sure what caused it (but it happened the 1st week i did speed-work before swimming, so i'm thinking i need to stretch more....) Embarassed

but!

it made me wonder about my salt intake.
i tend to have salty lunches (i.e. soup) mid-week
i wondered if that was contributing to this odd/latest issue of mine...?

increased the mileage on my route and banged out 14 miles this morning. tomorrow is the 2 year anniversary of my knee replacement surgery and in the last 12 months it feels better than "normal".
Happy Thursday to everyone......

Thursday: 55min run (6.65mi) and 55min swim (2100m).
My Reward: Nachos Supreme while watching the Habs / Islanders game.

In the past three years my running has improved from racing a 10km in  55min to 47min.
My Bike has improved from an average speed of 31k m/hr to 33.5km/hr for a 40km ride.
My swim has actually gotten worse. Today I realized that I swim 750m a full minute slower than I did two years ago when I was 15lbs heavier.  I gotta start looking at professional swim help.

The extra 15 lbs of blubber may have added to your flotation. You also may have lost 20 lbs of fat and added 5 lbs of muscle. I think you will be amazed at how much a swimming coach can help.

Work is overwhelming me at the moment but I did sneak in another short run today.

i woke up late and wanted to run so i did my own time trial this morning with a good time for me. 10 miles in 92 minutes is smoking for me. felt good and worked on speed on a lot of sections. maybe there is a runner in me yet.

I like the outfit but in the privacy of my own home I go shirtless for maximal cooling. I still drain buckets of sweat. I like the hydration system. Between the Speedfil and the rear wing you should be able to carry 5 lbs of fluid. Enough for 4+ hours of suffering

MIA but jumping back in. Looks like everyone is working pretty hard. Me too. So far this week I've done 3 swims, 2 bike workouts and 3 runs. One more bike and run this weekend. This on top of working till 7 two nights. To make up for it I snuck out for a lunch time swim today. Better though was "working" from home yesterday in the morning. Which included getting up a bit later plus a trainer ride. Hope everyone has as nice as weather as we are supposed to in the south this weekend.

I feel ya on the swim thing. Hope you make some progress. The good news is the swim is the shortest part of the race and if you can just hold your own in the water you can make it up on the bike and run.

Thanks for the run advice.  I am pain free right now and I am focusing on keeping the pace sloooooww.  I have no problem running endurance-wise, but I always push too hard and end up hurt.  I know I need to do my strength/stretch/roller to keep injuries at bay, but it's so unsexy.

Today I was introduced to the beauty/pain that is/are tabatas in spin. We did 6 x 20s at max effort with 10s rest - this was at the end of a pretty intense interval session ..... I'm now a little bit broken Cool

Hot dam!  Just saved us from page 2 Yell

How did the weekend workouts go?  I ran the Mardi Gras half-marathon today.  It was a gorgeous day a lot of fun. We wore tutus and Mardi Gras masks over our visors.  I was pretty pleased with my performance, actual running time averaged about 9:15 min/miles, which is good for me...especially after spending all of Saturday, uh, enjoying the French Quarter and only sleeping for two hours Saturday night. Tongue out Having a great time in New Orleans.  Returning to Sactown tomorrow and have to go straight to the lab upon arriving at the airport. No worries.  Will bike tomorrow afternoon to make up for the ride I missed yesterday.
