We only have about 50 miles left. I can't do math at this point so that's a guesstimate. I'm going to run an all out 4 mile tiime trial with minimal sleep and dead legs. Any bets? It's not gonna be pretty! GOOOOO SALTY!!! Heh, I bet you are pretty salty and crusty by now. But always pretty.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- us running types think salty and crusty is beautiful! Way to go GF!! Not to mention adding salt and crust to something delicious makes it even MORE delicious! But I hope you aren't fried, poor thing. Been following your updates, your doing soooooo well! We Manatees are proud of you So have I. Great job! It has been fun reading your race reports. |

Member 28 Pug Palace | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED I finally got caught up on all the forum happenings. We have been a busy group. I had a busy first week back from winter break. Back to work, school, and training. Let see we Manatees are on grandbaby watch, celebrating a 50th birthday, happy that a wee one is on the mend, supporting two Manatees who are trying to quit smoking, happy that a sore back & throat are better, in addition to so MUCH more. I had a great week. Kept to my training plan. I am trying not to over train. Train don't strain is my current mantra. Master swimming on Monday & Wednesdays is going well. Although this learning to breath on both sides is freakin' KILLING me. When I try to breath on the left, I get a mouth full of water and my stroke goes all to HELL. The SAME stroke I have been working so hard to improve. BTW, I am convinced that the swim lane three lanes to the left of my newbie lane is filled with mer-people, they glide through the water, and never tire. Yep, a whole lane of mer-people. Aliens and zombies can't swim that fast. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and replies to my Garmin gadget & tri wear. I will be surfing the internet later tonight for a few deals on both.

Will wearing proper running shorts cure this as i am still jogging in standard sweat pants/ jogging bottoms (not sure what you americans call them). Still trying to improve my wardrobe as until joining BT, i had not needed exercise clothing of any type for years. Will eventually get all the kit i need but have to build it up slowly as funds allow. Due to chafing i guess my next purchase should be running shorts. Tri shorts! You can cycle and run in them, as well. (I've never had a problem running in cycling shorts but some people feel as if they are wearing a diaper). Running shorts aren't very good for cycling, though. And I second the lube. Don't know what you can get in the UK but a running or cycling or even sports stores should have something. I also make good use of ahem "personal lubricant" that you can get at the chemists for rides and runs over a couple hours or so. I've only had a little experience of a cherry flavoured one that unfortunately dried out quite quickly! I will bow to your obviously greater experience in this field and check out the chemist if i cant get anything more 'appropriate'. Of course perhaps i should get the tri shorts first as it might cure the problem without the need for difficult conversations in Boots the chemist. CANTSTOPRAFFING!!! Allen, you slay me! |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED kgore - 2012-01-08 5:01 AM Nope, no trainer for me--It WAS my request for a Christmas present, but someone (a certain husband...) completely dropped the ball. Although, its been 60+ degrees, sunny, and dry pretty much every day from Dec. through today...so really, why would I want to stay in? That being said, the husband (okay, from now on, will be referred to by name: Clint) said he would have no problems holding said bike for pictures--and my camera has a good timer... I made it to the pool today, after taking a writing test at the college (stupid requirement for graduation--duh, already PROVED I could write!!!) Anyway--I didn't push for crazy speed today--coach's orders--it was all about form. I managed in 1500 yards--not too bad really. Also, the back feels about 98%--so I am happy with that! Well in that case I am asking for LOTS of pictures The ones that are critical are in boldface. The rest would be very helpful, but not strictly necessary. http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR_INTRO Really jam the straight-edge up in your crotch. They mean it when they say "as much pressure as on your bike seat." That's going to be most of your body weight. I need exactly what year/make/model/size your bike is (as far as you know) and anything you swapped out on it--saddle, pedals, shoes, etc. Pics taken straight from the front Pics taken straight from the side Pics taken straight from the rear |

Thankfully for triathletes, mer-people have the least advantage in triathlon because the swim is relatively so short. Not gills--blowholes. They're located in our armpits. That's why we rotate on a body-length axis--it's to get additional air from the blowholes. |

Member 892 England | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED On a lighter note, i have just been offered a pair of 'big pants' (also known as Bridget Jones pants) by my daughter as a temporary relief to my chafing problem. I am slightly worried that if i am involved in a road traffic accident some awkward questions may be asked but am tempted all the same. Not sure what my wife will think either. On the down side, they are not my favourite colour. |

TriAya, could you do the bike position evaluation of me on my road bike? I recently switched out my seat and biking shoes and not sure if my position is correct. Sure. In addition to everything I asked for in Kate's post, make sure to include what make/model your old saddle and shoes were and what issues you were having with them, as well as the new ones. Did you have a fitting done previously? The caveat to all of this, of course, is that online positionings may be worth what you paid for them. Same as swim coaching by video--far better than nothing, far worse than live fittings and positionings by experienced professionals. |

Member 892 England | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED I realise this may sound daft, but, when in a race, do you swim in your tri suit or put it on over swim shorts as you get out of the water- or do something else entirely? I ask this because in the sprint that i am doing, the swim is in a pool (easy life i know) and getting changed with so many bodies about will be chaotic, i would have thought. Puzzled???? |

For anything up to and including half ironmen (70.3) distances, you swim in your trisuit. Can't comment about races in England, but here there are no changing tents and nudity is not allowed. Chlorine is not generally recommended for trisuits, but i don't think such a short exposure will do harm. I can't comment on full iron distances as I have not done one and I understand there are changing tents and people do various changes of clothing. Now, I've got to stop procrastinating and go out and run - with my dog. Maybe I can impress another person with his (the dog's) peeing skills

Which is why I've been trying to work on my run, my only two races was FOP to MOP out of water and almost deadlast in the run... I just watched em run right by me. I have the swim and bike down the run is killing me though. Had a question for y'all nutrition wise for my HM: I've been training with perpetuum on my longer runs, because I got it on sale in powdered form, but was planning on having 2-3 GU's for the HM, have used them before just not in the last few months. Anyone have any guidelines on how many for a HM?
That's an awesome job on that ragnar that race sounds like serious fun. |

That's an awesome job on that ragnar that race sounds like serious fun. How much Perpetuem have you been using on the longer runs? Figure out how many calories per period of time that adds up to, and then that should (roughly) transfer over to the Gu (do you mean GU or some other kind of gel?) |
