Thanks Iceman for reminding me!!  I was getting stuffed up nose for a couple days. At first I thought I was getting a cold, but it's not running or I feel any different. Then it hit me when I saw your post...I had the same issue when I first started swimming at my pool, so I use Neti pot to clear up any congestion (I think my nose is a little sensitive to the chlorine. It'll be impossible not to have some water up your nose while swimming). D'oh. Completely forgot about it!

I get a little congested from the pool too, just not enough to worry about.  I know some folks are really bothered by it and have to use nose plugs.

Glad everyone is having great weather! I however woke up with 8 inches of new snow and its still coming down also in the single digits again. only color outside is white - would take a picture but it would just be white!

Going to take another day off as my foot was hurting yesterday - I hope everyone has a great Sunday - GO BRONCOS!

decided to add a photo after all - this is our back deck (which I can't actually get onto b/c the back door is frozen shut). We cleared it off last weekend!

Robin, that's gorgeous!  Is that you swimming in your new avatar?

Yep - last July when we were driving through Canada to get to AK. It was a lake just outside Jasper National Park, British Columbia and I had a loon (first I had ever seen) follow me for several minutes honking. It was 6 am and the honking echoed across the lake.  Sun was just coming up over the mountains, water was 62 degrees and crystal clear. It was one of those life altering moments!

I have a slightly larger photo in my photo album in my training log - I will have to find the original though.

Morning BTers! I don't have access to BT during the day (iphone just doesnt cut it) so have been catching up on threads. The brain eating amoeba in the neti pot scared me!!

Got a decent run in this morning although I am finding that my pace has slowed with the cold weather. Not sure if that's a factor of the dry air or that my body just doesn't want to be out in the cold. I run very early, so it's pitch dark out. There was a big full moon which kind of helped, and there are some street lights.  I ran past a house with a bunch of bushes in the yard and something GROWLED at me from under the bushes.  Sounded like a cat but it freaked me out nonetheless. I guess I need to start carrying pepper spray.

Morning all!

Good job getting the run in Anne!  I enjoy running in the dark with just the moon and street lights!

About to get on a cross country flight this morning, it will be good to get home but I will miss this weather.

Train well!

Growling cats? What the heck is going on in the Midwest? I love that time of day and being the only one out there.

Ran last night to get the metabolism up before strength training with the kettle bells.  Love those things.  3 X 10 squats, swings and presses with each arm.  Then pushups, planks, side planks, medicine ball and some yoga.   The swimming at masters today was pretty quick actually.  Speed work.  Not too shabby.  All good. I've got strength exercises on the bike tonight for 70 mins.  Then more running and a kettlebell work out with the instructor tomorrow.   Moving right along.

I guess I don't understand the fascination with Tebow, he won the game yes, but isn't that what he is paid to? He is on the front page of the USA Today. Any specific goal with half marathon Tim?

I saw what I think was a bobcat on a run a few months ago.  It ran right out in front of me.  I wasn't paying much attention, so I only caught the back half of it to see it running away, but it seemed way too big to be a domestic cat.

Not sure what is going on with my running.  I've put in a lot more miles than I ever have in the last couple of months but my times seem to be going in the other direction.  I've been a little sore after a few long runs but nothing out of the ordinary.  I don't feel my legs are tired.  Just not real sure what seems to happening.  I've got my HM this Saturday and I'll see what happens after that.  Anybody got any thoughts?

Do you think that you are overtraining?  Do you feel more fatigue than usual and don't bounce back quite as quickly?

I really don't feel like I'm overtraining at all.  My body feels better than it has in years.  That's what has me so puzzled.  It's just very up and down.  It may be that my mind or body hasn't adjusted to trying to run longer distances.

my all-time favorite running song is Aerosmith's Dream On -

Also have a running collection I put together for fun for my 10K group's track workouts in the fall - Gimme 3 Steps (lynyrd skynrd), Feats Don't Fail me Now (little feat), Up Around the Bend (CCR), Run Through the Jungle (CCR), Running on Empty (jackson browne), Take It On the Run (reo speedwagon), I'm Not Running Anymore (John Mellencamp), Runnin Down a Dream (tom petty), Can't Slow Down (lionel ritchie), and of course the theme songs from Rocky & Chariots of Fire.

It may be that you have focused more on increasing the distance, and less about pace.  Which is the right thing to do when stretching for a longer distance the first time.  Your taper should include some shorter distance runs with a few striders (short sprints at 5k - 10k pace) thrown in.

Enjoy your race this weekend!

Currently I have some Red Hot Chili Peppers, OAR, One Republic, Fitz and the Tantrums, and The Script in the top 10.  It is time to mix it up again though.

Paula.  Yes I'm running the half in Charleston on Saturday.  Would be great to meet up.  I only live about one hour away from Charleston and not sure if I will be picking up my race packet Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.  It's all according to work.  I own a tax practice so it's crazy with W2s and 1099s.  I'll be working extra the next couple of days to try to be able to come up Friday.  Good luck Saturday!
