I'm not angry and I've only gotten 13 hours of sleep since Friday night. And 8 of those hours were last night. I think I *heart* ZzzQUIL. I feel like a fluffy baby bunny of joy today!!

nice I slept well as well. I am now just eating a wonderful lunch, trying to figure out how many calories I should be eating, and where I want to live... I'd ask some questions in TT but people are just angry in there.

mr2tony - 2012-08-07 10:18 AM So. We just decided to do a 2.4-mile swim in about 10 days in Madison. Ima drown.

You need to get webbed feet, hands, and gills.

I could totally be faster if I had those. And a jet-propulsion engine up my backside!

I have been really working on my eating.... all good foods and cutting out A LOT of the bad carbs and sugars etc. You know the stuff that you experts have known for awhile. Lost a bunch of weight but then my workouts and energy started to suffer which caused me to think maybe I'm just not getting enough fuel. We'll see

We just signed up for satellite Internet and TV at our lake place.  I am ambivalent.  I have missed things I would have watched if we had TV but I have always sort of liked the enforced disconnection from world that the lake house gave me. We are getting it for the friends that our kids invite to come in for weekend visits.  They suffer withdrawal, particularly Internet withdrawal, when they visit.  They drive 10 miles each way to the public library to check their email and whatever.  J wants them to continue coming back so we have to have all the comforts of home.  We are getting it for them but it will be there all the time.  I know I could just not turn it on but that probably won't happen.  I am pretty weak about resisting the temptation.  Oh well, turn the page.  I am showing my age bias.

Do ever want to get away from TV and Internet? Or is it just a geezer thing?

Not to pick a fight but how often do you go there?  How much are your kids friends going to cost you?  Your at "the lake"  Declare a no Tech zone. Play a game, read a book, If they want to go check thier email, they can walk or ride a bike.

No. I am not fighting it.  I am just being nostalgic.

I will be happy to answer your questions though.  We go to the lake almost every weekend.  Our daughters have each organized a get-together of college or professional friends for a weekend this year.  These have turned out to be highlights of our year at the lake.  The friends are intelligent interesting people who are doing great things in the world.  Getting to have them around for a several days is a delight. The cost is of the satellite services irrelevant.  We can afford it.

Our visitors' need for internet is not always just a frivolous addiction to the information age.  Sometimes the kids (they are 30 somethings actually) do have legitimate business reasons to use the Internet.  I know that our daughter missed an email that told her to call in on a conference call with a client in Japan and they complained about it to her boss when she missed the call.  The kids that are visiting are in charge of work and research programs that go on even if they are not there. If they don't want to or cannot disconnect from the outside world for a weekend, I will try to be accommodating by providing the connection (and work on my own self-discipline to disconnect myself when I am there.)  I do want them and their friends to come again.

On the up side, Janice will be able to see the new season of Downton Abbey when it airs this year.

Thanks for a great reply.  It sounds like the enjoyment of company far outweighs the cost, good investment!  Just remind the kids, and thier guests, that they are never too old to be taken down to the water and tossed in by thier father.

You can carry gun on your hip and play with it in the desert. As far as I know there isn't a ban on big magazines ...yet. I know they were trying after the shooting here in Tucson in Jan '11.

No mag limmit and automatic fire firearms = I do like AZ but can't live there.
