145 Jackson, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Originally posted by podemma I am now officially a Triathlete! I completed my first triathlon on Sunday. It was a "short" sprint: 1/4 mile swim, 9 mile bike, 2 mile run. It was by far the most physically demanding thing I have ever done and I really enjoyed it. I managed to complete it in 1:06:25, far better than what I though I would do. You can see my race report here. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp... Would like to thank everyone in the group for their support. Just coming here are reading everyone's comments and posting a few of mine has really helped me out. Now to find the next race, a more traditional length sprint would be good. Congratulations! I can't wait to do my first. Actually looking into a race in mid July instead of waiting until August. Enjoy your accomplishment, you earned it! |

New user 31 Holliston | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Originally posted by hoenninger Just completed my second Sprint (Ashland, MA)!! My overall time was around 10 minutes faster than my target, so I am good with that. The transition from the swim to the bike was brutal!! We had to walk through woods on super muddy trails filled with rocks, huge puddles, roots, etc for almost 1/2 mile... Instead of running, I walked and still slipped a few times. The bike and run were hilly and had a lot of elevation changes. However, it didn't feel as bad as my first race two weeks ago due to the weather being really nice (low to mid 70's and not super sunny). I think I am going to take a little time off before my next race (still TBD). I think today's well earned beers will be: Maine Beer Company - Lunch Dogfish Head - Brew Happy Father's Day everybody. George
Ok, here is my first race report:

It doesn`t matter if it is a``short sprint" as you were going all out for over an hour, something most people would not even attempt! |

Extreme Veteran 2098 Alberta | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Latest update: Well June 8, my wife did her first triathlon(sprint). She managed to finish third in her age group(40-49)! She loved it! Sunday, the two ladies I coach and my wife did a try a tri with an open water swim. My wife came in 2nd overall, while the other two gals finished fifth and sixth. Have a doctor's appt. tomorrow to go over MRI. Damned if I do and damned if I do. I want the MRI to show something but I don't either...I just want some relief! I have also started food/drink cutbacks as I have been slacking it. I need to ditch some pounds so I can post my summer holiday speedo pics for everyone... |

48 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open I'm feeling my last few workouts today. Everything south of my belt line just... hurts. I didn't damage anything, I'm just sore, and not sleeping. It's 10a and I've already had two meals worth of intake and I'm ravenous. Oh boy. I'm hoping I can get a small run or swim in tonight, but some house buying stuff and other matters might prevent that. We're also supposed to have some thunderstorms too, which will take the fight all but out of me. I just need to get through today, swim coach tomorrow, and getting back in the water will help me feel better. |

My legs are a little sore but nothing too bad. I'm take a few days off to recuperate though. |

That's one of the benefits of Triathlon, if one sport is making you hurt you can work on one of the other two. I have also found that stretching AFTER a work out really helps me prevent soreness. |

145 Jackson, Mississippi | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society 2 - Open Alright everyone...I've got the itch BIG TIME to get in a race. Need your opinions, support, a reality check...basically any input you have. I've been looking at an August 10 race. However, if I wait that long I may not have another local opportunity until 2014. I would hate investing this whole summer in training to only do one race. I'm now looking into my first race being July 13th. I feel like my bike and run will be fine and I'm coming along with my swimming. Began 3 weeks ago dong 50's and 25's in the pool and have worked to 50's and 75's and today 100's and 75's. 900 total yards today. I only have to do 1/3 mile in each of these sprint races. Each time in the pool my recovery times have also decreased. Do you think I can pull this off in only three more weeks? What's your take? Bill |
