Originally posted by drfoodlove This morning was 2250yds in the pool. It get okay, except for the breathing. I must have slept funny last night, because I woke up with a sore neck. Turning to the right hurt, so I had to breathe to the left (weak side!). It wasn’t overly pretty, but I got it done.

Twinsies!!!  2250 for me this morning as well.  I actually swam 2275 but I had to add that extra 25 to my cool down because the watch operator is an idiot.

The treadmill "run" was successful...75 minutes and got to 5.4 miles, good enough for now.  In a race I'd run more than the 1' at the mile markers that I did this morning, so I think I'll OK in five weeks.

Have a great weekend BDAS!

@Mike--good to hear about the run! Any little step forward!

This morning was 90' run the 20' Z3 or Z5, depending on which part of the training plan description you read, run. I compromised and ran at Z5 pace with Z3 HR. Seemed to work out well. :P Actually, it was a really nice run. Even the tempo bit felt good and in the end I had the third fastest 10K time ever...after my Cairo Marathon 10K BP performance and the previous BP, which was from January. I'm happy with that, because both those efforts hurt and this one felt pretty good! Fitness gains!!

Great runs Mike and Gretchen!

Long weekend here. Running my first half marathon on Monday. Confident I can finish it.

Hoping to take myself round in:
Official: 2h13 minutes.
Maybe if it goes well : under 2h10
Would still be happy : under 2h20
Not gonna happen unless I grow wings, but you never know: under 2 hours

Rest day yesterday, A short easy 10k run today and an easy one hour ride tomorrow and I’m ready to go

I love the characterization of a 10K--a distance the vast majority of people will never even try to run--as a "short easy" run.

I was thinking about this last weekend when I ran just under 7 miles (~11km) and then went and swam just over a mile before I had breakfast. We do things most people would never even consider doing 1.) for fun and 2.) before other people even get out of bed. I love it!!

5 months ago, a 10k run was a long run for me but since I started training for my half marathon, that same distance has gradually become shorter.

And yes, we do things like most people wouldn’t consider, although I am “most people” when it comes to your number 2.

Rounded the month out this morning with a 1000yd swim and then a 90' Z3 interval bike ride while I watched footy (I don't know who won the game though, because I haven't finished it yet!--stupid work, getting in the way of my sports watching!)

Happy with the month. Recorded sessions on 29 of the 30 days.

Swim: 12h 35m 53s - 31375 Yd (-400 yds from March)
Bike: 21h 55m 56s (+1:34:30 over March; 7.7%)
Run: 13h 53m 50s - 60.66 Mi (+10.72 miles over March; 21.5%)
Strength: 4h 35m (+0:05 over March!: 1.9%)

I'm particularly happy with the run increase. I don't think I've hit over 60 in a month ever...maybe not 50, to be honest. And...my legs don't feel like I had a big month, which is good.

Great month! Impressed with the 21.5% run increase!

I am too lazy to work out the increases but here are my April numbers

Swim: 10 minutes, 431 meters (a 431 m increase so yeah!). May swim with a group tomorrow after my race if I am not too tired.
Bike: 12h27m33 - 236.2 km
Run: 14:34:21 - 121.7 km
Strength: 3h21
Hockey games: 10

Bullfrogs April Summary:

I did a workout 25/30 days, and totalled 25h45m, so averaged a touch over an hour per workout day. Coincidently 2 swims, 12 bikes and 13 runs exactly matched March's frequencies.

Swim, 0h57m, 2,000m
Bike, 13h02m, 345km
Run, 11h,52m, 90.2km

Weight, approx. 5lbs down over the month.

The numbers are not as impressive as the machines, but I'm happy with my progress.
Doubled my swimming from March, and it's only 2 weeks in but I'm liking my before work swims, so confident I'm going to have better consistency going forwards.
Bike and Run are both the highest duration and distances of the year. And running is the most kms I've run in a month since March 2021, which included 42.2km of Ironman 'running'

Best of luck for your Half Marathon. You're confident you can finish. I'm confident you can smash it. And the best bit is it's your first, so guaranteed PB.

Great job on the successful treadmill test run. Must be such a relief to get that confidence boost. Now, 5 weeks to smash it.

1600yds in the pool this morning (grrr....1500 or 1650 would be acceptable. 1600 bothers me!). Went fine. Later today, strength training. Not throughout the day though, as I'm wearing my only suit here and I don't want to risk ripping the butt out or a shoulder seam. I'm giving a keynote address this weekend, so I need to look sharp!

What’s wrong with 1600yds? Isn’t it a nice round number?
Thought of you (and others in this group) on Saturday, my 10k run was a 9.82k run. I thought you’d enjoy knowing that

Good luck with your speech, oh and yes, best not to turm up with a cracked butt on your suit!

While yes, 1600 is a nice, round number, it suffers from not being 1500 (a nice, 500 interval) or 1650 (a swimmer's mile). Do not ask me to explain...I cannot. I'm neurotic.

My Garmin always cheats me on races. My 140.6 marathon was only recorded at 26.1miles, so according to Garmin, I have no PB for the marathon distance. As if anyone would really run 26.1 miles and then stop!

But olympic swimming races are in multiples of 200m (400m, 800m) so I think I could accept 1,600. Definitely 1600 over 1650. I'm sorry but this 'mile' you speak of means nothing to the rest of the world. Haha.

I've done 2 Ironmans, which are the only marathon distance runs I've done. Despite slightly different courses Garmin has 41.7km distance for both. So I also have no Marathon PB according to garmin or strava. Sometimes Garmin sucks.

Got in a good weekend of training with an hour cycle class, 25' treadmill, and some strength work on Saturday then a 1250 non-stop Z2 swim and an hour plus on the bike yesterday.  Three straight hard weeks and I'm going to add another one this week then have a recovery week when I travel for work next week.

Solid April overall

Swim: 4h 28m 51s - 11150 Yd
Bike: 14h 45m 25s - 281.9 Mi
Run: 3h 34m 54s - 15.42 Mi
Strength: 10h 57m
Hiking: 7h 35m (this is how I track my walking...), about 25 miles so 40 total when including the running

Solid ramp-up since The Plan started in December:

X

Haha, ok, I was not going to write one for just a run (even if it was the longest I’ve ever run and probably will ever run) but I really want it to have happened so I’ll write a few words.

Impressed with the amount of strength, I know we all (well me anyway) should do more.

Early morning for me--4am start to get in a 1:10 tempo run (4x6' Z3) and then 1:00 Z2 ride immediately after before heading to the administrative he11 known as an Egyptian ministry.

My visa expires today, so I had to get it renewed. Of course, we waited until the last day to do it (at my sponsoring agency's request). What I didn't realize was that my phone sim was going to be deactivated this morning (they are tied to visas for foreigners--one of many insidious ways Egypt tracks foreigners and tries to control their movements within the country). So...five hours sitting in a the ministry of passports offices with 5000 other angry foreigners waiting to get my visa renewed, followed then my the fun of visiting the Vodafone store to get my sim turned back on, which they wouldn't do because I don't have the physical residency card yet (it takes four additional days for the ministry to process the paperwork and give you your card--but only after you take your passport back and leave it there all day, and then come back for a third time to pick it and the card up--a system built to frustrate people). Fortunately, the guy at Voda took a bit of pity on me and extended my sim validity for a week based on the fact that I had the receipt that showed I'd paid for the visa extension and they had already scribbled in my passport the new expiration date for my visa.

Fortunately, the guy at Voda took a bit of pity on me and extended my sim validity for a week based on the fact that I had the receipt that showed I'd paid for the visa extension and they had already scribbled in my passport the new expiration date for my visa.

sounds like a fun morning....

did you take this opportunity to do some strength and mobility excercices while you were waiting?

Nice work, Nathalie.  Sounds like a great effort and looking forward to a race report, or it didn't happen.

Haha, ok, I was not going to write one for just a run (even if it was the longest I’ve ever run and probably will ever run) but I really want it to have happened so I’ll write a few words.

so, it has happened

Happy how I am not even tired today. After the race my legs were hurting quite a bit so I spent the afternoon in bed catching up on some work, with a replay of last week's hockey game in the background. Listening to myself (and 5749 others) singing and watching the best bits again, like this monster save.

(hope there aren't any territorial restrictions and you can see it)

But today, I could easily run 21k again.
