Everytime our race director books a race months in advance, that is the week end it rains. He should book one in Atlanta to break the drought. |

On the other hand, I'm looking forward to walking the open water swims this summer . It's bad. I'll post some pics later. |

Expert 938 Orange County, California | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed Thanks for the well wishes guys. The weather was beautiful. It rained yesterday and should rain tonight and tomorrow, but for the race it was fantastic. We had 25 racers today, and I started second from the last based on a random draw of the start times. For those of you who don't know, a time trial is a race where one racer starts alone, and each racer after that goes off a few seconds after the one in front of him. We had 30 seconds between racers. The first 4 miles has an elevation gain of 700 feet, then it levels off for a couple of miles then down almost 700 feet, and the last half mile gains 210 feet. I finished about 2 minutes and .8 miles an hour faster than last year. So that made me pretty happy. Average speed 17.44 miles per hour. Max speed 37.4 mph. Average heart rate 163, max heart rate 169. |

Veteran 291 Charlotte, NC | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed I start the big challenge on Monday...school, in addition to family and tri-training. I don't know exactly how my schedule is going to play out, but I am determined to get in the workouts this semester and not slack off like I did in the Fall. Afterall, I have a race at the end of March. Ya'll keep an eye on me, I'm going to need the encouragement. |

Veteran 108 Key West, Florida | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed Hi all . . .here is a little lesson learned yesterday and how a fraction of an inch can make a difference on the Bike! At yesterdays Tour de Orlando, I seemed to have had a problem turning the big ring and getting speed above 16 or 17, and by the end of the ride, my left knee was bothering me. I just attributed all of the above to the Cold, Wind, and the amount of up and down climbing over the hills we had to do to the sore knee. This morning on my recovery ride, immediately my left knee had started bothering me, so I knew something was not right, and since someone had a flat early, while we were stopped I looked down @ my foot in the 12 o'clock position, and saw that my toe was behind my knee (not good). Now, since I have my seat post height and seat position marked, I noticed right away, that my seat had been knocked forward about 1/4 - 1/2 inch forward, therefore changing my seat position. After adjusting it back, I was going to give the the ride another few miles to see if I needed to stop or if the adjustment was correct. Sure enough, within a few miles, the pain was pretty much non existent, and power to the crank was restored. So what is the Moral of the Story? The body will recognize the most insignificant change in a bikes fit / position and you should always mark the positions of your seat-post and seat once you have zero'd in on the perfect riding position. cb Edited by Lwoodtri 2008-01-28 5:49 AM |

You are one tough woman to continue to train with what you go through. Think you need a bigger Tiarra. Awww, shucks, thanks, Cash. No, I don't have custody of those particular kids. I've tried to help as much as possible but they are older and so it's not as hands on as if they were little. My two "extra" kids belong to another good friend. She had to go out of town for a family emergency. The girls have spent a lot of time at my house in the past year (Dad had open heart surgery and they lived here for almost 3 weeks) and they are like my own so I really don't mind and all five kids have a ball together. Mostly the challenges are: 1) keeping enough snacks in the house and 2) Getting everyone to school/activities on the right day at the right time (they go to a different school than my kids). However, I feel pretty good and hopefully things will be back to normal this week and I can get back on track with training! |

That is a GREAT example of why bike fit is so important and marking, too. Thanks for sharing that, Corey.

Veteran 291 Charlotte, NC | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed First day of class sucked. Just sitting and listening to lecture for 7.5 hrs, is not what I am used to. I teetered between feelings of "holy crap, I am overwhelmed" to "I can do this, it's just a matter of time management." I don't know if I was being pessimistic or over-optimistic, or a combo of the two. Looks like it will be early bedtime and early (dark) morning workouts for me for the next 8 weeks. I'll give it my best shot. |

Expert 938 Orange County, California | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed What class are you taking Gygy? My g/f is taking MBA classes right now. 1 class is 4 hours Saturday morning, then next class is 4 hours Saturday afternoon. She does that every week for 2 years and will have her degree. But then every night after work is writing papers, doing group projects and doing homework. She usually meets with her classmates on Sunday for group study after her long run. I don't see much of her even though we live in the same house. |

Expert 938 Orange County, California | Subject: RE: Milaminute and Sparco's Group - Closed 9.5 miles running today. Half marathon this week end. Had fun helping a neighbor and her kids chase her dog for about a mile and half. More fun than just trudging out the miles, even though the dog would dash down one street then u turn, go down another street. Rinse, repeat. |

I don't see much of her even though we live in the same house. This 8 week stint is to become a Nusing Assistant, it is a pre-requisite for all the Registered Nursing programs around here. Over the past 1 1/2 years I have taken the science courses (except Microbiology). I have a BA in Psychology, so once I get into a RN program I will only have nursing classes to take. I am going to have some long days with early morning workouts, class for 7.5 hrs., then doing dinner-homework-bath-bed with the kids. Hubby works second shift, which is great with balancing the kids and my school schedule, but we aren't going to see each other much during the week for the next couple of months. We have been on opposite schedules before and survived. I just have to remind myself that when I become a RN, I can basically set my own hours. Best of luck to you and your g/f, (from my experience, it is important to set aside a date night on a regular basis). |

Gygy... you definitely have quite the balancing act going on. Hang tough, Cookie . I think I need some bike porn. What do you ride?? Let's see pictures . I'll start. My pretty bike is a Trek 2100 WSD with carbon stryke aerobars. Yes, that is a pink fuel box... and, though you can't really tell from the picture, I also have pink Speedplay pedals. You may giggle at my pink saddle and handlebars all you want, but, for the record, there is no bike as easy to spot in transition as mine.
