kimk - 2009-10-21 9:29 PM evening team! Back from work and happy to see only 10 pages to catch up on!

I like how you used the term only in front of 10 pages   It puts the chattiness of this team in perspective

Got mine yesterday.  Arm is a little sore, but no "yucky-ness" here.

I wasn't feeling to well as the afternoon progressed...nothing to serious, just more or less exhausted, a bit feverish and little headache...took some advil and it went away though! Yaaaa! Well the feverishness and headache...and the pain when I move my right arm...I heart advil...

Did a little run. Just nice and easy to get my mileage up!!! Now im over 60kms!!! YAAAAAA!!! I`m gonna get over 100km!!!!

nice job running even though you weren't feeling the best!

aspeelma - 2009-10-22 6:11 AM Good morning Ghoulies!

I have taken the day off of work! I'm feeling better than yesterday, but I typically get up at 4:20 to go to work. I did not set my alarm this morning. When I got up I got up and I'd decide then if I was going to go in. Staying in bed won out. I still have a bit of a headache, when that goes away I'm going to go get my run in.

HAVE A GREAT DAY GHOULIES!!!

Good decision, taking the day off.  I hope you recover and get back to your normal running self!

went to chiropractor today.

theyve been in the process of doing some re-evaluating.

like i shared, my hip/pelvis are not level.

my right hip sits higher than my left.

they've been doing weekly adjustments, and ive been wearing levelers to try and bring more balance, structurally.

after several months of adjustment, theres been almost a 50% improvement in the degree of unbalance.  GOOD NEWS GOOD NEWS GOOD NEWS....

but theres still an imbalance.

the Doc said today that since the issue wasnt completely resolved by adjustments alone, theres a good chance that anatomically my right leg is shorter than my left leg....not by much, but enough that it was making an impact and probably the source of my foot problems last year.

ok.  no big deal.  were all a little OFF....

the upside is that they have 'lift' that they added to my leveler to help w the imbalance.

the whole thing just made me crack up.  when he said that my leg is probably shorter...

all i could think was...

not only i am a cock-eyed lil triathlete.

now im the cock-eyed lil triathlete w the shorter right leg.

LOLOLOLOL.

at least theres something to be done about the imbalance, and hopefully the lift will alleviate some of the IT/SI joint/lower back issues...

im all about being more BALANCED/LEVEL.

LIVE HAPPY!

Sounds like you're figuring things out and on the way to implementing solution.  That is ALWAYS a good thing

it IS a VERY good thing....to think all these years ive been living that measure of structural imbalance, its a wonder i didnt MORE MAJOR issues.....

the good DOCs are taking the BEST care of me.

im fortunate.

alright GHOULIES.

im thinking im caught up (for now...)

im doing laundry now, but heading to the Y in a few.

i have a swim and run on tap.

46 min swim/5 mile run.

im hoping to get in a 1 mile continuous swim + 800-1000 yds xtra.  we'll see how the legs are feeling in the water....then the 5 miler.

i was gonna make this my 45 min tempo, but again, my legs arent feeling 100%.

if i cant get to the speedwork, no biggie.  its the distance im most concerned about.

i may split the run up 2.5 miles, swim, then 2.5 miles.

we'll see how things 'loosen up' this morning.

rest day tomorrow, and then meeting up w a group of people to run The Spirit course on Saturday bright and early.

coming down to the wire.

UBER EXCITED!

RUN HAPPY GHOULIES!

disturbed275 - 2009-10-21 9:48 PM So I went and bought a sofa and a love seat after work today.  I moved into a new apartment  in the beginning of August and have been furnitureless since.

Wow, a sofa and love seat is some pretty grown up furniture.  I hope you picked out something that won't clash with your bike (because we all have our bikes in the house at some point, don't we?).

Mine has it's front and center in my dining room...suposed to be a built in china cabinet but the previous owners removed it...perfect spot for bike and trainer!

Morning everyone!  Plan is to give the foot one more day (although if it is feeling good tonight I might try to get a run in when I get home)  I am not going to try to push to do the 4 miles I had planned I just want to run and see how it feels.  No worries though I am 46/60 miles right now so as long as I can get this feeling better and get one or two more good runs in I should be able to get to 100%

aspeelma - 2009-10-20 5:50 PM **** Consumer Product Alert Ghoulies ****I wear orthotics so before I run I have to lube up my feet before I run or else I get blisters on the bottoms of my feet. I typically use Body Glide which works pretty well. I was out of BG so I decided I'd try some Band-Aid Friction Block that I had in my camelbak for hiking. It did not work well at all. I have a blister on the arch and the top of my right foot and on the ball of my left foot. I will be stopping tomorrow to pick up some more BG before I go out running. The Band-Aid brand stuff didn't go on nearly as well as the BG and I even questioned it in my mind before I went running.Take care of those feet Ghoulies!!!

Do you wear socks also? I have orthotics and have never lubed my feet but I have been experiencing blisters/rubbing more latley...thought I needed new orthotics...which I am sure I do just am not ready to drop another $300 on them!!

Yes, I'm a sock wearer. I wasn't until I got the orthotics. Bamboo socks seem to work the best for me, but that wasn't what I had on last night.
I had gotten my first ones at the price of $375, they were to last me 10 years. I wore them out in a year. I didn't feel like dropping that kind of money again so I was just going with the $50 Dr. Scholl's ones. I started having more and more back problems, and piriformis issues and my PT got me custom fitted for new ones. They were only $135, they are the full length, which I like, the other ones weren't and they are guaranteed for 5 years. So if I wear them out I get a new pair. They have no idea what I can do!

They told me 7-10 years for mine...I also went through them in less then a year! Mine are full length but have like a cork bottom, when I can get my new pair they will have a hard plastic bottom that a friend swears by(she is a triathlete and PT)

My new ones are definitely different than the old ones, not sure yet if that's a good thing. The old ones were only the 3/4 length so I was constantly getting blisters around the balls of my feet where they ended, and that was before I ever got into triathlons. They were also more rigid, my new ones have a little bit of give in them, not much, but just enough. The new ones also have a little bit of cushioning in the heel that I like.

Question for you. Do you use them when you're on your bike? I have a cheap pair that I use for riding. I'm just thinking that they would take to long to move from bike shoes to running shoes in transition.

I do not use any orthotics in my bike shoes, I have carbon bottom on the shoes so they do not bend and being on the bike there is no impact on the arch so it doesn't bother my PF.

Nutter Butter Peanut Butter are great on a bike ride.  A little blue g-rade (or whichever brand is on sale at the store that day ) and a 4 pack and the energizer bunny is all fed.

Today is a food day definitely!

funny...we too love to take them along for our rides....I also, love peanut butter hydrox..but not too fond of the new oreo cookies with peanut butter filling! nope doesnt touch Hydrox!!!

They make oreos with peanut butter filling?  Why was I not aware of this?

Of course maybe that's okay if you are not recommending them.

I was sooooooo excited when I saw them at the store...whipped up two of the packages...one I took to work and they demolished them....but I wasnt impressed! I am picky when it comes to cookies..I figure if Im gonna eat one and make myself pay for the calories...it better be darn good!!!! you may like them Neal...dont let me scare you away!!!

mndymond - 2009-10-21 12:15 PM Got my flu shot today (seasonal)...woooooo....Im crossing my fingers for not feeling yucky because of it!! (yucky is an official medical term) lol

doesnt that happen within an hour or two if its going to!? We get them at work...one day  a few years back...they made an announcement there was free food /drinks in the kitchen...so we all went racing in to find NO FOOD...except some oranges, crackers and water....there instead was a doctor with A HUGE NEEDLE waiting to give us all flu shots! DIRTY DOGS! they knew the way to get us to move was thru our stomachs! didnt work the next year...except for a few...like me! can I just say I love food...and free food is the best!

LOL!  I'm pretty sure that would get me every year too.  I'm a sucker for the promise of free food.

you would fit right in at my office, then! can I just say I hate needles, too! can they bring me the nasal kind next time, please!!!!

I have yet to get my flu shot...but going to give a call today!!!
