I haven't used this brand, but camelbak had something similar. It was to gassy for my liking, I always had to burp...

Well, I solved the heat problem! I ran tonight from 8:30-9:15. I really didn't have any other time of the day to run. I made it this time! Stopped once for bathroom and some gatorade and a second time to pick up my daughter who ran a mile with me. It would have been no problem though for me to run the whole 45 mins. I won't try to do it in the heat of the day again for sure!

Had another great run this morning. 5 miles at about a 7:55/mile average. Things are starting to come together. Still have alot of work to do on swimming and biking. I never thought I would say this but the run is the least of my worries now(I dislike running!).

It's still early man! I hate running as well... But, swimming I hate.... Great pace! What was your HR for that run? Seems a little fast for training

That's great... Just keep in mind that your race isn't going to be at night. So, if time allows you, try to run early in the morning. That will give you the best indication on what you're pace and HR will be like at that time. Towards the end of the day, your HR reserve is going to be higher as your body becomes fatigued. Good job on the 45 mins though.

Awesome job on the run by your daughter as well. You should see if there are any kids triathlons that she could compete in

Yeah, I hate them, but I do love racing. I just hate the training aspect.

Well that's pretty damn solid for that low of a HR. When you race, you're HR will be up in the 150's and you'll be pretty damn fast. Keep up that work.

I am not sure about fast as i seem to only have one gear....

I am trying to get into another tri in June but quite a few seem to be full and the one I could go into is next weekend when I out scouting out the Olympic I am doing in July...okay, I admit the scouting is secondary to a little mini holiday in the mountains!

That's a great pace considering your HR.  If I run 7:55 for too long, my HR is high 140s, maybe even pushing 150s.  Keep up the good work!

Thor - How can you hate running if you can run at that pace.  You weren't running you were flying!!!  I love to run and am going to try to do a few fartlek (intervals) on the run to try to get my speed up.  I am still a slogger but I will be a runner....just have to get faster.

Swim - need lots of work on this.  Leaving today after work for the north country (central Minnesota) and I won't have a pool but will have a lake.  I really need to practice the OWS so will pull my son, sister or dad out to spot me  It's a not a busy lake but I'm trying to find a bright colored swim cap to sort of alert any boaters to my presence.

The weekend is in sight.

Sounds good be careful. You could also get a "Bravo" flag, This tells boaters that someone is in the water. To stay clear. I use this when I OWS, I attach it to a floatable device and tow it behind me.  Have fun swimming.

I'd like to say I could never maintain these paces without drafting. I was very happy to stay with the jets in our lane and not get lapped.

150 free
250 pull with paddles
200 kick
300 free
725 11 minute swim ended up @ 1:31 pace
625 9 minute swim ended up @ 1:26 pace
475 7 minute swim ended up @ 1:28 pace
200 3 minute swim ended up @ 1:30 pace

Okay, a few things...

1) I was on a track, so it was FLAT. The faster I get off the happier I am!

2) somewhat concerned about heart rate...I use an ironman Timex HR monitor...are there any accuracy issues? I have used it in the past for other exercises. I rarely get into z3 unless all out sprinting for a final kick etc.

Linda, good luck with the OWS. Is this your first one training for a tri?

I don't think there are any known issues. Maybe you just don't push hard enough. Z3 and Z4 are not easy task. Try bring your paces down the the 6's and see if it comes up

Wow, when I run, my HR is usually in the 160s and can get to 180 when I'm pushing it.  And my resting HR is in the 50s.

Anywho, first tri of the season is Sunday.  I think I'm ready.  This will be my third tri ever (did a mini and sprint last year) and I'm looking to beat last years sprint time of 1:28:55 by a full 10 minutes or more.  Sub 1:15 would be super sweet.

Today was my last hard workout, spin class followed by 5K sprint (22:51 about 30 seconds off my best time -- which was Tuesday).  Tomorrow I'll do a light bike ride (still getting used to the new tri bike) and on Saturday I'll do an easy run and an easy bike.

Hi thor!  Did you program your Timex correctly?  MHR, RHR, weight?  I have a Timex HRM as well and it's been pretty accurate.  You sure have a really good running pace for such a low HR! =)

Hello everyone!

Almost forgot to say that I'm going to take the next 3 days off since I'm competing in the USBC Amatuer Bowlers Open National Championships this weekend in Reno, NV.  I hope there's a pool I can do some easy freestyle in to keep in shape but my focus is going to be on bowling well.  Wish me luck!  See you guys when I return!  ^_^

Yep! She's going to do one July 30! I am so excited for her. Tonight, I biked 10 miles and ran 20 mins on the treadmill -- I hate treadmill running, but we had an air quality alert and I didn't want to inhale all of the nastiness!
