cathyd - 2012-02-11 8:31 PM For those with injuries I can relate. I was off all of 2010 with a foot injury. And half of 2011 with periformis syndrome....this is the one threatening to come back each time I run. The past four days I've been sick with a wicked cold that my husband gave me, thanks, he had it for almost 2 weeks. I'm really hoping mine doesn't last that long. I rarely catch the bugs that go around but with all the stress I've been under this winter I'm not surprized.

Hang in there Cathy.

x2, take it easy.

Gosh so many highs and lows going on this week.  Hope the injured and sick heal quickly and swiftly.

My two weeks from heck are done! Now training is up in the air since I am visiting family for the week.  Mostly running this week!

Long run tomorrow.  13.6 miler.  Long and slow for me.

Kevin: 181!  At that rate - they'll be hanging up your picture at Weight Watchers before too long.  Looks like you have earned yourself an extra beer or two each week as well!

How did the 13 miles go down today? I hope you had a great run.  Nothin beats long and slow or so my wife tells me...

Speaking of races - how much longer til your first one?  Good luck brother!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and encouragement.  I will figure out a way to get through this obsticle and keep going... DH - I'm starting to think that you might be right... What do I really need a PT for with all the good info on-line these days... Plus, I already feel a little better today after a light bike ride and walk... Kevin - I agree with you - if I don't slow down, I'm never gonna get better...

My primary goal is to heal this week and my secondary goal is to keep up the weight loss with the thought that the less I weigh - the less stress I will be putting on my sore feet.  I had been working out 6x per week, so I will cut that down to 4x with some good rest in between.  So, here is the plan.

Monday - Rest and Stretch
Tuesday - Swim 1000 yards and aqua jog 15 = 45 minutes
Wednesday - Rest and Stretch
Thursday - Swim 1100 and aqua jog 15 = 50
Friday - Rest and Stretch
Saturday -  Walk 45 minutes - Cancel if I'm sore
Sunday - Bike 45 minutes

Thanks everyone for the accountability!  Have a great week!

This was my time on my 13.6 miler today.  I ran at a 9:00 mile pace the first 8 miles, and picked it up between 8:15-8:40 miles for the last 5.  I took :30 off my pace on the same run this time last year.  The marathon I'm training for is May 19th?  I think.  Windermer Marathon.  I've done it the last 2 years.  This years goal is to finish in under 3:30.  8:00/mi pace.

You have to be careful about the stuff you find on the internet.  I always hated PT, but when I was in school it was covered and I didn't have to worry about paying.  When I got out I had an old shoulder injury flare up and I was sent to PT first before I could get an MRI.  I went to the first one just to get the exercise and then canceled the rest of the appointments and did the exercises on my own.  Never got the MRI, but I knew my shoulder and injury well enough to know there wouldn't be anything new to find and I too couldn't afford the cost.

I'm certainly not advocating not going to PT, but I know the cost is OUTRAGEOUS!  Just be extra careful about the stuff you find online.  Maybe see if you can run them by the guy at school you said you'd talk to.  Definitely want to hear about your progress!

I decided to follow advice and took yesterday off.  I went to a citrus festival in town and get myself some semi-sweet oranges... yum!

Today I got in a stationary bike workout and a walk on the treadmill.  The weather here is really cold for the area and the wind made me worry about getting on the bike.  The calf felt really good so I'm going to run on Tuesday as planned.

On other news, I volunteer at a dolphin conservation park in FL and for my birthday my brother (who works there also) signed me up for an interaction with my favorite dolphin.  The dolphin painted something for me and it was pretty amazing despite the cold weather.

I just got back from the pool.  Got in a nice 1600 yard swim today... it felt awesome!!!  Tomorrows my off day from work so I'm hitting the pool again and running/walking.  I've got a full week of work ahead of me.  I close several days this week so I'm trying to stay motivated and get workouts in after work.  I'll figure out a schedule later today.

Hope everyone who's sick/injured is on the road to recovery.

Feeling much better today so went to the gym. Ran on the treadmill, did some core work and stretching then hoppedbin the pool. Run was good, swim felt great...even did some bilateral breathing that was very smooth, best I've ever done as I struggle to breathe on my left side ( struggle as in I look and feel like I'm going to drown every time I take a breath). So today was an awesome training day for me.

Nice way to start the week!  Do the lifeguards at your pool get tired just from watching you go back and forth all those times?  Enjoy the short week!

Got in a 2.2 mile run.  I ran about .6 miles with Shadow then walked another .6 miles with him.  I didn't go swimming today.  I needed to run more and I was afraid of overdoing it with another swim since I woke up pretty sore from yesterdays swim.

Schedule for rest of the week:

Tuesday: Bike

Wednesday: Bike and maybe a walk/run with Shadow

Thursday: Off or something nice and easy

Friday: Walk/ run

Saturday: Rest day for 5k on Sunday

Sunday: 5k race

I got done with the first set of 100's and the lifeguard said "You make it look so easy" as I was panting on the wall... nearly threw my kickboard at her.  But I guess when you have to watch 60 year olds all day I do make it look easy.  So does 13 years of competitive swimming

Thinking of joining a Master's team to get some people to race and increase my speed.

I started Total Imersion today.  I got totally Imersed and overwhelmed.  WOW.  Should be interesting.

I made it up to myself with a 5.5 miler at 8:00 pace.  Some things I can do well.  Swimming is not one of them.

Keep training.

Got to the gym today for a 33 min run on the treadmill followed by 1350 metres in the pool.   On the days I go I do well and feel good, just need to get more consistent.

Back to work tomorrow.  Will bring my stuff to run after work.

Got in the bike and run yesterday.  40 min on the bike and I did the run a little different.  I mapped out a mile from my house and ran .5 miles.  It was split into 3 runs - .16, .20, and .14.  I'm trying to build up to .5 mile straight and then adding to that until I can run a mile straight.  It's much less time just doing a mile then the run/walk program, but it's easier on my knees and shins and I'm trying to be injury free!

Got in the water today for a 1450 yard swim.  Had a little warm up and then a 500 Time Trial.  Managed to go under the 1:30 pace (1:29.6 to be exact) for a 7:28 total for the 500.  I spoke with a couple coaches in the area about getting back into training with them and I'm going to check them out next week.

Didn't get the bike in though, but I'm going to throw that in tomorrow.  3100yd swim, 30 min bike, 1 mile run/walk... this workout will really tell me how far I have to go before April 15th.

Your swim is awesome.  your run plan sounds great.  the most important thing for mental prep in run is to have a plan.

I just knowcked off 3:27 off of my overall time from last weeks 8.25 miler. 7:56 pace/mile.  It felt great.  I have to point to the sprint training I'm doing 2x a week as a factor.  I am running this run in the same times as I did in the beginning of April of last year, and the only thing different is I now swim, and the sprint training.
