Veteran 706 Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Burd - 2013-01-10 4:12 PM News flash...... I can swim!! HAHA but seriously I went today for nearly 2 hrs in the pool. No panic at all. Spend 30 min practicing sticking my face in while blowing bubbles. Next I moved on to holding side and dipping face flat while looking at the bottom then rotate for a breath. Ended up going under and pushing off the side to coast about 15 yards then come up for air. It all ended with me swimming 25m properly with face in water and rotate for breath, not perfect but I'll take it. I did that 6x with resting between each 25m. Now I am going to get a pull buoy so I can work on my stroke to geet it right. The good thing is since I am starting over I can incorporate bilateral breathing. YAY!!!!! Buoy drills are great for form. Swimsmooth has some great videos too. Swimming is so much about form, especially compared to cycling or swimming. My wife, who comes from a swimming background, finally thinks my form isn't atrociously terrible, which I take as a mild compliment, after two and a half months of doing nothing but form drills. Great job staying committed and conquering the fear.
As for me, workouts 8 and 9 are down for this month - 1,000 yards in the pool and a nice spin class. Nutrition is going well this week, too - lunch with the boss today, and half of it went home with me. |

I am going to definitely ch-ch-check out swim smooth because it pisses me off when I see guys/girls going way faster then me, and seemingly just gliding along putting in less than half the effort that I am.
Great job on the Double Day!! and Free Lunch to boot! |

Regular 90 Bearspaw, Alberta | Subject: RE: Weekly Goals Qua17 - 2013-01-10 1:22 PM OK - It's Thursday and we are more than halfway done with the week. How are you all doing with your goals? I've been checking in and a lot of you are on track to achieve them. So you've got four days left. What are you going to do to make it happen? Which beer will you enjoy once you achieve all your goals? (Not sure - but I plan on picking up a tasty saison to enjoy while watching the playoffs). Goals, I'm doing okay. I've worked out each day I had planned to (plus one). I need to do that yoga DVD still but I'm doing a great job on the Diet Coke, or lack there of. |

Extreme Veteran 968 Cape Coral, FL | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed I see a few of you do yoga. Is that for stretching and flexibility? In my mind it makes sense but I don't know enough about it. I could benefit from something geared for flexibility and stretching, plus it could get my wife and I some couple time while I am training. Win/Win there. |

In my mind it makes sense but I don't know enough about it. I could benefit from something geared for flexibility and stretching, plus it could get my wife and I some couple time while I am training. Win/Win there. I don't personally like yoga but it can be for everything: Weighloss, strength, flexibility and even cardio. I used to teach high school physical education and used some videos to introduce the activity to my classes. I would have a large pool of sweat every class that I led with my students. It can be extremly rewarding in overall fitness and of course in the flexiblity/mobility. If your curious I suggest you try it. Some people love it and find it life changing. I just felt awkward and self concious. |

Win/Win there. I started doing it because I saw DH was doing it and in the first 30 seconds of my first class, I realized how much I needed it. Sure - it's a lot of stretching (the type I do is called Vinyasa) but it's also an amazing stretch workout. I am spent after a 90 minute class. I've been 2x so far and plan on going weekly. Since I started, my knee (ITB) and my back (2 bulging disks) hurt less. Give it a try. |

Member 41 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Doug good job on the weight loss. I got up for the second time in a row at 4:45, I did hit snooze 2x, was awake but read the paper on my phone in bed since I have a treadmill and spin bike in my basement so that saved my 15 minutes to go to the gym. Kept on the plan (run and bike) felt good but tired at the same time. Plan is to wake up early and stretch and go to the pool in the morning. Good job everyone! |

Yoga is great! Whoever invented Lulu lemon pants is an evil genius... on top of the fact that my wife says they are super comfortable...anyways enough on that.... They just opened a 'Hot Yoga' studio here in my town and I think I am going to give that a whirl, because its not like I sweat . But If you want to give Yoga a try and are nervous about being the rookie in the class, or self conscious like I am. Check out the P90X yoga routine...I really enjoyed it and it has a little strength stuff mixed in. |

Go for the cycle trainer, puts you on your bike in the proper position. Killer workouts on the cycle trainer. if you can afford to get fluid type, apparently much quieter, although mine seems noisy. |

Veteran 238 New Mexico | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Closed Looks like I will not get my 10 mile bike ride in outside today. We already have 20 mph winds outside and forecast says they will get up to 45 mph with 60-70 mph gusts. I think I will go spend an hour on the stationary bike in the gym instead. Hope everyone has better weather for their training than we are! Shins are a little sore this morning, but not too bad. I am starting to get a little nervous about the upcoming Bataan. I have 65 days left prior to the march. I intend on marching, not running the 26.2 mile course, but my mileages now are only topping out at 4 miles in a session. Would it be beneficial to change my Saturday long jog into a walking session and increase the mileage? For example, I was thinking about this Saturday instead of the timed jog session I have scheduled do a 6 mile walk. Then increase the distance 2 miles per week, which would get me up to about 22 miles the week prior to the march. Advice? |
