Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by Muskrat37 Originally posted by jobaxas ride update - I stopped at the LBS to see Piglet Jae and have a coffee - got there as my DH the mailman turns up so we have a coffee together - how unexpected. I then left to cycle home the final 10km didn't want to push my luck it was so nice I couldve ridden all day. Anyway 2km from the LBs my chain starts making a strange noise like it's rubbing somewhere, i decide to stop and check it out - flipped the bike upside down played with gears and pedals like a pro - suddenly they won't turn any more - the chain is well and truly jammed. No perturbed in the slightest i walked the 2km back to Jae. some debris from the road had bounced up and stuck in the rear derailleur - turns out to be a bike computer magnet not from my bike! What are the odds. Jae gets his mechanic to fix up Terenzo (my bike - nearest I'll get to riding him) - they weren't busy so he gave him a full service. Worryingly he said I was right to be cautious, had I continued riding I would have torn the derailleur off the bike and would definitely have had a nasty crash and maybe written off Terenzo, so aren't I lucky and aren't I brave!??? Cycled the 10km home and got changed and ran 5km with Scooby. Feels good to be out there and doing the real graceful stopping - first time ever on the road doing that. Now I want to ride every day! Ahhhhh.. The day I've been waiting for. I knew it would come sooner or later. Awesome job!!! Sweet - thanks - now i def need to come visit with my bike! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by Muskrat37 Originally posted by cdban66 Originally posted by jmkizer Originally posted by blueyedbikergirl Stacey - I have this grandiose idea in my head that when we get a dog it's not going to be allowed onto the couch or the bed... somehow I have this feeling that this isn't going to go as planned within about a week or two. We had a chocolate lab, Hannah, who was a "failed show dog." We got her just before her first birthday. Someone she had it in her head that she was not on the furniture as long as two feet were on the ground. She would crawl her entire body onto the sofa and keep a few toes touching the floor. When we got Emma (she moved in on Hannah's 7th birthday. Worst. Gift. Ever. in Hannah's opinion). Anyway, Emma learned this habit from Hannah so we still have the two foot rule -- dogs in our lap but not on the furniture (except the Big Bed, they are allowed there as long as they get off when Kevin says). Someday I'll share the Gil song. We do it on occasion when we do acoustic sets. Short story, Gil was a black Lab that failed Guide Dog School. He owned the house, had a truly memorable personality, and thought he was a lap dog. He slept with us every winter, did a great job of keeping our feet warm. Buster was my daughter's dog, a Blue Tick Beagle. Not as big as Gil, but LOVED sitting on the arm of the sofa. And he enjoyed sleeping under the covers in the bed with us. I miss our dogs, but we do not have the time to take care of them properly at this point, so we are currently sans dog. But not forever. The love provided by 4 legged family members is unbelievable. My Dog Emmitt is not allowed on the furniture, and definitely not allowed on my bed. In part because he sheds soooooooo much. However- I have often come home from a ride to find him jumping off the couch. Funny how he knows not to do it when I'm here, but as soon as I turn my back he's on the couch. Stupid Smart Dog. He is kennel trained - so if I'm gone for a long ride or run - he sleeps in his kennel. I will not let a dog (or my cat) in my bed. My cat actually sleeps under my bed. Short haired dog - but you would never guess it by the amount of hair in my vacuum cleaner every week! The middle pic is when I was fat and before I shaved my head. Scooby is not allowed on the furniture or the bed and when we're around never dreams of it - same deal we got to bed and Boom he's on the couch. If it was just my decision he'd be on the couch and the bed...but it's not so he isn't. |

Chattanooga will host it's first IM next year on September 28. Just got the e-mail. Time to refocus and adapt my training plan.
Be interesting to see what they came up with. So far it sounds like they may have stayed out of the hardest things. The home page lists the swim as a loop, but on the course page it's listed as point to point? Hopefully it's the latter so you don't have to swim against the current!! Bike with 2100ft of climbing and a run with 700ft of elevation... it'll be interesting to see how quickly this one sells out. That's nothing - the Fast and Flat crowd will be helping this sell out very soon! That begs the question to the Manatee's. Are y'all in that "Fast and Flat" crowd, or in the "The tougher the better" crowd. Me personally - I want tough! I plan to do that race back east (can't remember the name) where you get your name in brick if you make that climb. You know - the one where everyone is falling over! If there's a fat and slow crowd count me in. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by Muskrat37 OK - I get where you are coming from. I see what you mean about the flat speeds - just drop a gear.. makes sense. I have the room to grow with the existing cassette. I also understand what you are saying about sacrificing something to get faster on the downhills. In answer to your question - my #1 goal is to go faster while going downhill. I lose my ability to pedal past 42 ish mph, and it drives me crazy. The other day - on a nice straight drop I glanced down when my pedal stroke started causing me to get "bouncy" - 112 rpm's while pedaling in aero. I don't like to get "bouncy" at 45 mph....Even I have my limits! The Caveat: I still want my climbing gear. It looks like a 55 wouldn't give me that much more on the downhills. I found this cool calculator on the web. http://analyticcycling.com/GearSpeedCadence_Page.html
P.S. I want this ability for 2 reasons:
Guess I'll just stick with the 11 - 23 for now. I'll pick up an 11 - 28 for climbing and see how that feels. That will help me tackle those big hills - and I won't sacrifice any of my existing speed downhill. Thanks for your help (and patience) with this. Do know that a wider cassette is going to have more or bigger gaps between some of the gears. On that one, you'll lose the 16 and the bottom few can be different depending on which 11-28 you get. I don't think SRAM and Shimano used the same size for the bottom 3. Some people notice this more than others. I use the 11-23 most of the time here because I don't really need any more. I wasn't using them when I had only the 11-28, so it made sense to fill in the gaps. The gaps can be filled in some by getting say a 12-28. And yes, that does take away from the top speed you want. Isn't this fun? |

If I never develop a requirement for really expensive whiskey, that would be OK. Wine is almost ruined for me because of how I grew up;) If I want something less sweet I'll do Maker's Mark or Wild Turkey, both of which are good to go for me. Now, that being said, I have taken a shine to Woodford Reserve, which really isn't that spendy. It's my current special whiskey (bottle on the far left). The pic was taken at my parents when I got snowed in this winter (by myself--woot!) and decided to have a one woman whiskey sampler kinda evening. Good times.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ever have a giggle/wtf moment with a total stranger? After yoga yesterday, I was the last one out as I was checking with DH whether he was coming in for a lunch session. As I'm walking out the class door, one of the yoga women comes in looking all worried. She asks if I saw anyone leave with a purse. No, I hadn't...but there were only six of us in class. She says she tucked it away and wouldn't have been easy to grab, but just can't find it. Says she'll just check with the desk. I haven't said much except I hadn't seen anyone leave with a purse. Most of this two minutes has been her wringing her hands and wondering what on earth could have happened. As she turns towards the door I ask, "Is the purse your looking for like the one on your shoulder?" She looks down does an OMG face and we both crack up. I was still giggling when I told DH about it last night. Just nice to know I'm not the only crazy one sometimes.

That's funny. I've seen my dad running around looking for his glasses - that were on his face! I may, or may not, have been looking for car keys that were in my pocket. |

I'll remember to hold your hand and treat you like a lady next time Now I'm just jealous. I'm still at work. How do you drink your whiskey? I still have a medium long run to do today. Ahem Depends on the whiskey, the weather and my mood. Sometimes I like it neat (by a camp fire when it's cold, for example), but usually on the rocks (makin dinner on a Tuesday). What kinda whiskey? My favorite everyday whiskey is Jack Daniels. "Real" whiskey drinkers scoff at that, and I just kinda embrace it Now, that being said, I have taken a shine to Woodford Reserve, which really isn't that spendy. It's my current special whiskey (bottle on the far left). The pic was taken at my parents when I got snowed in this winter (by myself--woot!) and decided to have a one woman whiskey sampler kinda evening. Good times. Well, now yer confuddlin' me. Ya got some scotches in there with yer bourbons and such. I'm a scotch gal myself. Single malt preferably. I don't know a lot about 'em, ceptin that I like em. Whiskey. Whisky. Bourbon. Scotch. Whatever. I prefer bourbon USA! USA! USA! I'll drink anything but gin. And Jager. I like gin. Jager--not so much. 20 year reunion of my french immersion class (most of us were together from K-12). At least I wasn't the only one talking to ralph that night... |
