RunningJayhawk - 2009-10-22 11:38 AMI think I need to start backing away from this thread....whenever I open it my heart actually starts pounding.Overall, feeling pretty good. I know my place in the race (BOP) and I'm comfortable with that now (I used to get really worked up knowing that I'm a late night finisher). So I'm doing everything I can to not obsess over cutoff times and such. I've done the math with the bike cutoff times and I'm fairly confident that I'll be fine...staying out of my head is proving to be my biggest challenge.I've got my last huge weekend coming up. A 21 mile run. 2 hour straight swim. 120 mile bike + 90 minute t-run. I'm hoping I make it out alive. It should be the final confidence builder I need.

is it a tic tac, tic tac, tic tac kind of pounding? Whoa... that is an ironman trianing weekend... just remember, don't get injured training... My longest run has been 20 miles, my longer ride will be 80 miles, my longest swim has been 5k, I'll put it all together on race day...

I feel my IT Band starting to act up :-(
Been stretching it and icing it over the last two days and will continue to do that, but I had to cut a 2 hour ride this morning down to 30 minutes because I started to feel pressure in my knee and didn't want to push anything.

Poor timing because I have my two longest workouts in the next couple days.   A three hour run scheduled for tomorrow and a 6 hour ride on Sunday.  I'm hoping to still do them as scheduled and then enjoy a reco week and taper to keep things easy and let the pain melt away.

I am sorry about your IT band issues...

a) get a roller and start rolling that sucker really bad..
b) Is your IT band issue on the bike or on the run..  If it is on the bike check out your sitting position and your cleat position.   It is possible that you are sitting too low or too forward...  Also your cleats might be a little too forward too..
c)  If it is on the run,  roll that sucker down and make sure you strech at the end of your runs.   Also, do some leg extension and or one leg squats to strengthen your leg muscles..   Probably too late for IM,  but what really worked for me was to start running pose method..

Cheers and good luck...

Leg extensions really should be avoided. Puts a lot of stress on the knee joint in a way it wasn't designed for.

Glad to read that everyone is on track with there plans.

Joe is going to finish with us in Nov. Recall that the weather was horrible for the 4/08 race. Temps were in the mid 90s and the winds on the Beeline were pretty stiff for the BOP.

I am starting to feel ready but wonder if I am putting in enough distance.

I am hungry all the time and can not eat enough. I am trying to maintain my weight to survive.

Looking forward to meeting some new Bters at the get together.

We actually have 31 days to go. I could use the extra day.

Holy @#$%, 30 more days?  I better start training.  Anyone have a 30 days from couch potato to Ironman plan?
Seriously though, anyone else getting excited?  I know it's getting close because every time I think about it (which is all the time), I can feel my heart race a bit.  I actually found myself perspiring a little when I was describing the mass swim start to a colleague.    This will be my first Ironman and I'm nervous and excited at the same time.  I have no idea how long it will take me or what the day will bring.  My goal is to just finish by hell or high water!
Anyway,  I hope everyone's training is going well.

Oh yeah!!   the ironman people will give you some glowing sticks and or necklaces...    They did in Fl and CDA,   I am sure it is standard practice..    Just make sure you ditch the damn glowstick before you get to the finish line..  Otherwise the damn thing will ruin your finish photo.   Those things will glow so much when the photographer snaps your pic,   so toss it.   Otherwise you will be  a flash with legs crossing the finish line.

The best part of IM training is that you get to eat...LOTS!!
I think after this is all over I am going to have to have to learn to eat normal again!
I constantly crave carbs and salt!!  (And ice cream!)

Yes, ice cream (the real stuff that I never used to buy-been on atkins for 6 years) and pretty much everything in sight that has carbs and/or salt haha! Yes, anxious. I have been having the most vivid dreams of anything since my professional licensure exam and they entail a. difficulties encountered in getting to IMAZ starting line, 2. not being able to find enough to eat, and 3. having a tougher than hell day out on the course in some form or fashion. My sleep cycles have pretty much been screwed up for a month or two now.

The ADOT has placed the Ironman event signs around the course. I was down at TTL this morning for a run and SOMA registration. I must have seen 4 of the signs that warn drivers of the upcoming event.

I know everybody is well aware of it but, 28 DAYS!!!!!!!

Two more weeks of build, I hope I already have enough hay in the barn, if not, it's too late!

How long are you gonna taper?

Are maintaining intensity and reducing mileage? Or vice-versa?

I was really getting confident but then I had a lousy day today. Was supposed to do 65>12 and ended up doing 68 without a run. Im just plain tired out and I dont say that easily. Otherwise the training has been going real well.

Im doing three weeks of taper starting 11/1 whereby I am dropping volume and upping intensity. The big workouts this week are 21 miles run wed. and 120 bike friday. Hope I can rejuvenate before then haha

Hope everyone had a better day than me today!
