ebshot - 2009-08-18 3:47 PM I just got home from the eye doctor with Cole and Alex.  Cole got a new prescription and Alex needs glasses.  Ack!  I was afraid of that but I should be glad.  I was wearing them when I was 7.  She is 8 so she has me beat.  Now Cole, on the other hand, has been wearing them since he was 3.  Poor guy.  More money out the window....

Bummer about the glasses, but glad that they can see.  My son wore glasses since he wasd 7.  Try playing soccer with them when you want to head butt the ball.  As soon as he was old enough for contacts we got those, just because of soccer.

My daughter we didn't find out she needed glasses until 9th grade.  She commented about sitting on the floor in the class and I asked "wasn't there enough seats in the class?" and she responded "yeah, there are, but I can't see the board from my seat."  We were at the eye doctor the very next day.  Poor kid.  Wonder how long she couldn't see and hadn't said anything.

bet she was amazed at the difference glasses made...and was sitting in the back row of desks the next day....

when I tried my readers on for the first time...I felt sorry for anyone that was near me...I was sooo excited...i could not believe how bad my eyes were and the difference these glasses made....I was picking up all the boxes of food around and reading the ingredients - stating...OMG no wonder my daughter was saying I was not eating healthy...I couldnt read the ingredients on the sides of the boxes. I know I must have went on for a good ten or so minutes! haha

BTW ~ Too bad reader glasses have no style....have yet to find many cute pairs!!! but I guess it doesnt matter now that I need prescription glasses.

Sledge - 2009-08-19 3:32 AM

Legs are a little sore this morning, so I'm going to go for a swim in my "fishbowl", aka backyard pool.  It's a very sleepy morning...

my legs are sore too!!! I did the planned LSD...ran over 9 miles...going to go clock it but we believe it was 9.5 miles in all....and with little or no stretching due to time constraints...my leg muscles are quite tight and uncooperative today! and even after the morning ride I did with my husband...didnt spin the achiness out! but I will be out running tomorrow...wont I???

If I do a cycling class at my gym how do I translate that to miles for the challenge? Can I?

way to go strong Jeff....

bike is still at the bike shop, eh?? good thing you got this fixed before you competed on it and had it fail...and remember..the most important thing to do before you ride if you do ride on Saturday....???

might as well do it in the order of a tri....swim then bike...but then you have to dry off after...so, you may want to run first...

now, you have me talking to myself....

have a fun rest of the day! me, I am going to finish cleaning the front bathroom...so, needless to say...this is not my favorite part of the day! but will be when it is done!

this is my fall cleaning...everything comes out of the cabinets and drawers...and very little goes back in! check expiration dates, throw out old make up....cut up old towels and use as rags....soon I will have this house whipped into shape! too bad that Im talking about my house and not me!!! but thats in the works too! haha

OUT OF COMMISSION FOR A FEW MONTHS!

Hi everyone. This morning during our group ride I was drafting behind three other guys. One of them had carbon wheels on his bike. As we were descending (about 30+ mph) his wheel disintegrated. We were so close that as he crashed I had no time to react. I hit him, completely flipped over my handlebars and landed on my head (thank God for my helmet). Anyway, to make a long story short (too late), I fractured my T-2 vertebrae. Luckily I won't need surgery. Doc's said I have to wear the collar for two weeks and pretty much do nothing. They said if I take it easy it should heal on it's own in two or three months.

On that note, I apologize to the team but I will obviously not be able to meet my goals. Good luck to everyone, I hope you win the challenge.

My new look.

He's ok. He just has a bruised hip and a nasty road rash. My bike actually fared pretty well. My shifters are a little bent from the impact (bloody knuckles suck...lol) and my rear derailleur might need replacing. The frame held up.

Take it easy, and do what the doctor says!  It sounds like that is what you plan to do, but it doesn't hurt to remind you, right?   I broke both my C2 and C3 vertebrae 5 years ago, and today I have no ill effects from it.  They healed on their own (although it took longer than 2 weeks -- I was in a different type of collar than you have for a couple of months).  But now I have no restrictions on any activity, so I'm sure you'll be in the same shape soon enough.  Good luck!
